Is your school open tomorrow?

How many people have already heard that their school is shut tomorrow? It never occurred to me that this might be a thing, but apparently several schools in our area have already emailed parents. Surely this is an all or none scenario, not up to each head teacher's discretion? But also, surely they'd have to tell us by 8pm if school wasn't open in the morning?

(I'm a teacher and a parent, and I've not heard from either school)

It didn't seem likely that schools would be shut, that's why I was so surprised to hear that some of our local schools won't be opening tomorrow. Hearing all these replies makes me think this might be one of those rare occasions (😏) that some mums on the year 3 WhatsApp group are bullshitting...

There'll be a day of mourning for the funeral I imagine. I don't think it'll be tomorrow. Also for the Coronation.

DS came in earlier and asked what will happen to us now the Queen has died.. and will we be attacked by Putin?! God love him

Better not be closed. I'll be pissed right off if it is. DS is meant to be on a trip tomorrow and there's been a query on the class WhatsApp about whether it will be cancelled. It's already been postponed once, he'll be gutted if it is again.

Our school is open.

The protocol of what happens next leaves me wondering if there will be a holiday a week on Monday. There should be 10 days after the death before the funeral, which would take you to the Sunday. They won’t do the funeral on a Sunday, so it is most likely to be Monday 19th. I think they would have to close schools and public services etc that day if that’s the case.

Why on earth would schools close tomorrow? There are 10 days of mourning - are they planning closure for all 10 days? Bizarre

Why on earth would a school close? Maybe for the day of HM funeral but not all week surely. Closing schools would not be HM’s wish..

DD's comment was "if I was Liz Truss I'd be really annoyed - first day as PM and she has to give a speech under a bin bag, and now the Queen dies"

10 days until the funeral takes us to week Sunday no ? Schools are not open sundays and schools are open tomorrow and I'm in an London borough

Liz truss is clearly a bad omen.

So sad the queen has died. Brought up in a military background so the royals were/are a big thing to us.
She had a brilliant reign though. She saw the world change so rapidly and dealt with it all in her stride.

HT at my DD’s school never ever shuts the school, never sends them home in really bad weather or anything, it’s always ‘open as usual’ & she expects all children in unless v ill.

Just how it should be.

The entertainer has a very Christian ethos and isn’t open on a Sunday and yet as a business has continued to thrive.

I haven't heard anything so I'm assuming open.

It will be hard enough to get some sort of childcare for the funeral, because I won't be getting a day off but I assume the schools will.

No way schools should be closed tomorrow (or anything else). The funeral will be day 10, tomorrow is day 1 so that would be next Sunday I think.
There will be a bank holiday if its a weekday but not a compulsory day off work.

Apparently there is unlikely to be a bank holiday on the day of the funeral, it’s not written into any of the planning and is at the discretion of the prime minister.

But there will be a 2 minute’s silence…

The funeral will supposedly be Sunday 18th so schools will definitely be closed!
