This is a moderate thread for moderate people who aren't mad keen royalists but also aren't wishing the royals harm either.

For those who don't post mawkish shite but also don't post hateful things.

For those who spent hours watching the news but then went to the loo at 6.30, and for those who stayed watching the news. Or watched no news.

For those who are passed off at Eastenders is cancelled, and for those not that bothered.

Come gather here, air your petty gripes but not your mean ones. Have a gossip, or talk about your dinner.

I am moderate in my feelings for the Queen's death. She was someone's mother, grandmother, great grandmother aunt and cousin so must all feel sad.
Death comes to us all, there is no escape from it.None of my relatives (yet) have lived as long as the Queen.
At the moment I am trying to give support to a friend who has just lost his mother who ,I have just discovered was the rock of his whole life. This person was unable to support himself, and needs guidance in seeing the various social services to obtain the benefits he is entitled to, something which is never going to happen to the royal family.

I'm starting to rebel because people are being arrested for holding dissenting posters up in London or for shouting republican thoughts at official events. It is a huge abuse of police powers - hijacking anti-protest legislation.

While people may find the protests offensive or in appropriate, wouldn't do it because I don't want to upset people who are in mourning, it is far more inappropriate that people decrying royalty in public spaces are now being arrested.

People who want to shout at royalty have the rest of the year to do that; and in every other year they have the whole 365 days if that's their bag.I don't think that restraint on one day is that hard, whatever your feelings.

I didn’t realise this was happening! Utterly ridiculous.

IMO it’s sad for the family, as it would be for any family.
From what I can gather she led a life of extreme privilege but worked hard at her job.
But no harder than an A and E nurse, a teacher, a bin man.

And there's the small matter that whoever hoicked the shouter away wouldn't have known whether shouter intended to escalate to action and wasn't taking any chances.

I regret posting about my feelings about this, so I'm not going to comment any further. This was a good, non confrontational thread. I apologise for risking that. I'll start a different thread on it, not tonight though, and leave this one be.

I agreed with your post and I don't think it was against the spirit of the thread - the media have gone bonkers. The people are still the same - some royalist and some republican - you can stifle the voices but the feelings remain the same.
