Will it be Continuity Truss or "Socialist" Sunak in charge?

In the i/v with George Osborne I mentioned yesterday he says something about Johnson needing to be the centre of attention "he can't help it".. Emily Maitlis recalled Johnson turning up late to the party conference at exactly the same time as Cameron and all eyes were on Johnson etc. They may be a brief lull but he won't be able to resist making trouble.

I'd have thought Boris' deep unpopularity could render any seat unsafe.

He was polling at 24% in June. Lost by elections etc. MPS wouldn't go on the tv/radio to defend more lies. The Conservatives had good reason to get rid of him.

The problem is that a) Truss isn't necessarily that well known and b) the Conservatives have spent all summer telling us how marvellous Johnson is and dancing around his poor leadership.

This is a good thread from Lewis Goodall

jgw1 always speaks a lot of sense

Your c&p skillls need improving

Roussette · 07/09/2022 08:44

Oh helpppppppppp

I have just seen a rumour (OK it is only a rumour but it's enough to put the wind up me!) that they are trying to retire our MP off. He has had the constituency for flippin' 30 years. It's a very safe seat (unfortunately) and the rumour is...Johnson might run for it (given he has a v slim majority in Uxbridge)

Janiie you can laugh like a drain if this comes about, but I won't be getting the joke!

For me, it might mean a house move 😂

SueSaid · 07/09/2022 08:49

'and the rumour is...Johnson might run for it (given he has a v slim majority in Uxbridge)'

Oh lucky you! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Grin.

I'll be moving!!!

Notonthestairs · 07/09/2022 08:52

Janii shouldn't be the one laughing. With a safe seat & a Daily Mail column he'll destabilise the party further. The ERG are not going to be content to let their current preferred candidate be trolled by Johnson.

Perhaps @JaniieJones will do you a house swap. Then she could go and have a lovely time campaigning for him, helping out in his constituency office and generally devoting her life to his wonderfulness.

'Then she could go and have a lovely time campaigning for him, helping out in his constituency office and generally devoting her life to his wonderfulness.'

Yes, what a good idea!

DuncinToffee · 07/09/2022 09:18

It's like now Johnson has gone, Janiie is unshackled.

I am sure I read the Johnson’s have bought a house in a London borough, a left leaning one iirc.

Good to see Coffey knows her ABCD, funding is still a mystery.

Roussette · 07/09/2022 09:20

Our current MP is a chocolate teapot, never thought we could get worse!
The only hope is tactical voting where we are

Notonthestairs · 07/09/2022 09:28

Very few MPs seem to live in their constituencies. They might own a house there but it's for visiting not for living. Or in our ex Tory MPs case it was her adult children to use.

Veeragall · 07/09/2022 09:34

I have absolutely no time for my Tory MP but one of his pledges when he was first campaigning to be elected was that he would move, with his family, to live in the constituency. And he did.

Johnson seems to be ignoring the fact that he has a job as an MP in West London. I doubt he'll actually do anything.

DowningStreetParty · 07/09/2022 09:57

There is no way Boris would take over the mid-Narnia seat from Dorries surely?. It’s not glamorous enough for him. He’s so cocksure surely he’ll just stay where he is (.. and please god be voted out)

Downnotdown · 07/09/2022 10:04

Why is it that every time I see Jacob Rees-Smug I keep thinking he's going to morph into the Minister of Silly Walks?

John Cleese was way ahead of his time.

borntobequiet · 07/09/2022 10:34

Or a creepy suave Nazi villain from an Indiana Jones film set in WW2.

'Why is it that every time I see Jacob Rees-Smug I keep thinking he's going to morph into the Minister of Silly Walks?'

That's a bit unpleasant isn't it. Were you the sort to pick on bespectacled kids at school, the ones who spoke differently to you or those who had a different culture to you? JRM is a brilliant politician, that is what counts.

I think you are being unfair. Our Tory MP definitely lives in the constituency, which is how it took him by surprise that his road was closed for the local 10k, which necessitated him being abusive to volunteer marshals, with children present.

The signs on every approach road to town, and the leaflets through all affected households doors, may have been a clue...

Is there something wrong with being compared to John Cleese? They’re undeniably similar in stature.

You’re either immensely oversensitive or actively looking to be offended now.

Cornettoninja · 07/09/2022 10:48

Oh and please do provide an example of what you class as being a ‘brilliant’ politician.

🤣🤣🤣

Now I know you are toying with us janiie! You are in danger of stealing the satire 👑 from jgw1.

JRM is a horrible hypocrite. If there is a heaven and hell in the afterlife he believes in, he is in for one big shock.😈

JRM is a truly awful man
