Weirdest place you've ever been?

Not necessarily woo, just weird.

We were looking at places to rent and the landlord showed us round a house which was becoming available. He was as uncomfortable as us when he saw that not only were the windows blacked out but the entire house from the ceiling down including the floors was covered in thick black plastic and the main bedroom had a lock added and we couldn't get in.

We left pretty quickly and I'm not really sure if the landlord looked into that any further!

Glasgow Central Station always makes me feel a bit weird but I'm not sure why.

Was it going to be available after all the murders?

AnyFucker · 30/08/2022 18:25

Those chocolate box country villages where every lawn and flower bed is immaculate but there is never a soul to be seen.

Saw a few over the weekend in Cumbria. Creepy.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 30/08/2022 18:25

Ross-On-Wye.

WTF goes on there?

You can cut the atmosphere with a knife. Everything looks like it’s from twenty years ago. The vibe is SO WEIRD.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 30/08/2022 18:27

Religious(healing) retreat in Brazil.
The leader has in recent years been under investigation for assaults on women...
Things I saw with my own eyes can't be explained...

I get a really weird feeling about sad town centres that are unloved, especially on a Sunday evening when it’s very quiet. It’s like the town in house of wax or something.

nuneaton town centre perfect example of a sad town

notprincehamlet · 30/08/2022 18:31

Norfolk

MomwasCasual · 30/08/2022 18:32

Bideford.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/08/2022 18:35

Sotogrande in southern Spain. It's like a real life Truman show set.

We didn't stay there, I think we wandered in from the fishing village next door.

CornedBeef451 · 30/08/2022 18:35

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon me and DH walked into a pub in Ross on Wye and everything went silent and everyone turned to stare at us. It was really creepy.

We assumed it was racism as DH is Indian and that kind of thing happens in small towns but maybe that's just Ross on Wye?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/08/2022 18:36

Las Vegas - the very definition of weird!

CornedBeef451 · 30/08/2022 18:38

Backpacker hostel in Fremantle.

Huge guy fused to the only sofa 24 hours a day and a bathroom where you had to walk past the shower cubicles to get to the toilets and sinks.

Sounds ok to you realised there were no doors on the shower cubicles and all the shower curtains were clear!

Tootief · 30/08/2022 18:38

I've heard that a lot about Ross On Wye.

@PriamFarrl not going to lie, we did keep an eye on the news for a while.

I went to Rome once and went to this monks museum thing with artwork made entirely of skulls and bones of people that had died there!

After googling I've found it was called the Capuchin crypt. I'll attach a photo! It was just so odd.

DH and I drove to a village about 45 minutes away last week to go to a specialist shop. On the way out I mentioned to DH that I had felt really uneasy for the entire drive into, around and out of the area.

He goes there fairly often for work and said he has the same feeling. He thinks it’s something to do with it being on a peninsula. At a certain point you are on the only road in or out and surrounded by sea on 3 sides.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 30/08/2022 18:46

@Russell19 I think I went to the same place in Rome. That’s definitely weirder than the peninsula!!

I just thought it was a dump!!
Don't understand why it's a tourist destination at all!

Tootief · 30/08/2022 18:46

@Russell19 it is a bit strange there. There are lots of cities who have similar. In Prague there is a church made of bones from plague victims. So many people died and there was nowhere to bury them so an artist was commissioned to design a church with the bones. It has bone chandeliers and everything.

The pub in Mendlesham, Suffolk.

satur · 30/08/2022 18:49

Not too far from Ross-on-Wye-

Bromyard.

Place gives me the creeps. Local town for local people.

Never mind the newsworthy attempt to 'rebrand' it with a backwards D- place needs far more than a new logo to convince me to do more than drive through it on the way to somewhere less creepy.

Such as?

IvebeenUpAllNightNoSleep · 30/08/2022 18:54

Any particular part? It’s fairly diverse!

IvebeenUpAllNightNoSleep · 30/08/2022 18:55

That was meant for @notprincehamlet Norfolk- which bit?

LimoncelloSpritz · 30/08/2022 19:07

The Nuns Graveyard in Ischia. Basically they put the dead nuns in a room where they gradually decomposed, and the younger nuns were sent in there periodically to pray and contemplate life. It gave me the horrors!

Anon50000 · 30/08/2022 19:07

Suffolk. All of it.
