Weirdest place you've ever been?

Not necessarily woo, just weird.

We were looking at places to rent and the landlord showed us round a house which was becoming available. He was as uncomfortable as us when he saw that not only were the windows blacked out but the entire house from the ceiling down including the floors was covered in thick black plastic and the main bedroom had a lock added and we couldn't get in.

We left pretty quickly and I'm not really sure if the landlord looked into that any further!

Glasgow Central Station always makes me feel a bit weird but I'm not sure why.

Newchurch on the Isle of Wight.

I live on the island but won't go near Newchurch...*shudders...

Ravenglass. The railway is great but the actual village itself is really creepy, deserted and just plain weird.

Midpmcoffee · 30/08/2022 19:16

Tenby in wales

Carmel by the sea in California

Keyansier · 30/08/2022 19:20

Glastonbury High Street.

There's a veneer of...something underneath all the woo and the crystals and angels.

It felt like people were acting how they thought they were supposed to rather than actually just 'being'.

yep

HappyHappyHermit · 30/08/2022 19:25

Bergen Belsen, obviously I didn't expect it to be pleasant but the feeling there was dreadful. I'm glad I went as I appreciated gaining a greater understanding of how it all went on and I think it's so important never to allow anything like that again, but it was far worse than I could have imagined. Not a feeling I will ever forget.

My new place of work, full of strange practice's and stranger people.

Sickofthisheat · 30/08/2022 19:43

Thurso, creepy place, creepy hotel, even the Greggs was creepy!

Keyansier · 30/08/2022 19:45

Does anyone else google image all these places and think "that looks really nice"? 😂

I get a really weird feeling about sad town centres that are unloved, especially on a Sunday evening when it’s very quiet. It’s like the town in house of wax or something.

nuneaton town centre perfect example of a sad town

I was just about to say Nuneaton, a few of us were there for work and strolled into the town centre for dinner. It was menacingly vacant, with a few people hanging about in doorways, really weird vibe. We drove to a country pub instead.

bippityboppity87 · 30/08/2022 19:49

The house my PIL are in. Not the house itself, it's perfectly normal, but when they were renovating, the spare room has a built in cupboard and it had lots of writing on the walls inside. Like someone was writing a diary. Wish I had taken a picture. But it was creepy. Since been painted over

Milton Keynes just soulless

WeCanBeHappyUnderground · 30/08/2022 19:51

I've been there - Sedlec Ossuary. I thought it was beautiful and I love the idea of my bones being turned into art when I no longer need them.

Dungeness is very weird but I like it.

Yeah it feels a bit Truman Show

Hell fire caves in high Wycombe

So wierd. Man made tunnels in the shape of a women's uterus

A moat to the inner chamber. Definitely had hand maid tale vibes and worse.

Once went to view an 80s detached house on edge of Brighton - agent said it was empty and had keys. Get there , he opens up and there were about 8 Chinese /oriental men all in there , all in string vests and underpants, mattresses across floors - etc - complete mess - in what in theory would be a very nice modernised house .

My face must have been a picture and the agents face certainly was. Even worse it was owned by someone's dad in the agency- must have been great passing on that news.

St Helens
Truro

Cloudonthemountains · 30/08/2022 19:56

Three places have really given me the creeps.

Ellesmere Port
Staithes
Isle of Wight (would have left the same day if we could have done)

LunchBoxPolice · 30/08/2022 19:56

Anglesey. Weirdest atmosphere everywhere we went.
I was also very relieved when I left Telford.

Useyourfork · 30/08/2022 19:57

Whitby museum, old and fusty with mummified shrunken human heads.

There’s a theme park in Devon somewhere. I can’t remember what it’s called but the person who started it was a collector of Victorian clockwork machines. There are loads of creepy clockwork machines for children around the place. Really interesting but a bit spooky at the same time 😊

Starship951 · 30/08/2022 19:59

The Stock yards in Fort Worth.
I've never felt so out of place and self conscious.

Soproudoflionesses · 30/08/2022 20:01

Townsville in Australia

MindPalace · 30/08/2022 20:01

Brunei. Had a day trip there and it felt very weird.

Whataboutitthen · 30/08/2022 20:02

Campbeltown. Had wanted to visit for ages. As soon as I got there I wanted to get away. No logical reason.
