Aren't you a Russian speaker?

I am quoting you from this very thread - you might have forgotton, that was 3 days ago. Seems like you not only understand Russian language but all its nuances, even better than a translator:

The Russian language uses the same word in different contexts, far more so than English, which is why translating is tricky, so the reporter may have got the wrong meaning, but what I think he was saying was that it isn't just a matter of working hard, you have to work productively - along the lines of it is not what you do but how you do it. The parts of the speech I saw were perfectly congruent I think it is was just reported in that way to try to discredit

It must be difficult to keep on top of all the lies. Job hazard.

I can assure you that I am not a Russian speaker. If you google "does English have more words than Russian" you will see the information I posted. This is about knowledge about the English language. We have simpler grammar than many countries but more words. Can you stop calling me a liar?! It is very rude.

I know about ten words in Russian.

newnamenewnew · 06/09/2022 14:43

@Ijsbear You have said you are Ukrainian, please could you tell me what Ukrainians think of Myrotverots? Will it be shut down?

Ijsbear · 06/09/2022 14:44

No, we noticed that. Nor that you can bring yourself to say that the Russian invasion and occupation is illegal.

You certainly pointed out that Russia called a UN meeting though. As if Russia thought the UN was an important body that people should work with constructively.

newnamenewnew · 06/09/2022 14:44

@blueshoes just to also explain that youtube does a translation, but for that speech I only watched the news reports and they did a translation too

What you are saying here is just inflammatory nonsense. The UN called it illegal, and that is that. If you look up conflicts which refer to the same UN article, from memory the UN called every single one illegal. For some the solution was to send in UN peacekeepers.

I said Russia had called the meeting about the power plant because it was relevant in that context and the information given was misleading.

I disagree with everything you said.

You were not quoting from the internet. You were specifically translating Putin's laughable joke of a rubber bum (which by the way still makes my day). Owlsdance said she did not get it even as a native speaker and Putin is losing the plot. So you had to ride in with your implicit knowledge of Russian language to save your great leader's humiliation by offering a 'better' translation.

Gosh, they must teach you deflection at induction training. It must be is a skill because people who don't lie all the time are quite bad at coming up with instant ripostes aka 'squid ink'.

Putin's twitching feet, grippy hands, limp, chewing lips and weird jokes are not allowing him to live up to the strongman image. Your job is going to get harder. Camera does not lie, or does it?

@Ijsbear has already told you she is not Ukrainian. If you call someone something for long enough and enough times, does it become truth?

female. and you?!

not a shill, not lying, no inconsistencies. no discrepancies. not dishonest.

You are wrong, blueshoes, and very rude. Direct quote from internet:

"Russian has less than half the number of words as English. There are about 200,000 words in the Russian language, compared to more than one million in English. But of course, that doesn't mean that Russian speakers are less able to express themselves. It just means that there are more words in Russian with more than one meaning. And that makes a qualified translator even more crucial!"

You will find it on the "united language group" website, in a blog entitled "8 facts about the russian language you may not have heard before".

I could be equally rude back but I will refrain.

blueshoes · 06/09/2022 15:12

Truth hurts

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 06/09/2022 15:18

A shill is defined by google as "an accomplice of a confidence trickster or swindler who poses as a genuine customer to entice or encourage others". No I am not a shill. I have already told you that I am not a shill. I am your average MN long term user who disagrees with you and reads current affairs beyond this MN thread. Not a shill. Please do not call me a shill again.

You're a shill 😂 and you've been caught out, time to pick a newnamenewnamenesname

I disagree with the ‘not bad’. I think attempting to play the ‘I have done more research than people on this thread’ and the faux naive ‘I don’t know any Russian/I’m getting my knowledge of Russia from Mumsnet’ lines at the same time is pretty incompetent.

Russia does not appear to be declining.

And Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia.

Yeahright.

Sorry, I'm interrupting! But Lawrence Freedman's latest out today too:

Cutting off Europe's gas supply is Putin's last throw of the dice

Thanks for this magicfox, Larry F always worth reading.

OwlsDance · 06/09/2022 15:32

Honestly, best thing to deal with someone who lacks logical thinking is to ignore them.

Scholz refused to approve export licence for tanks for Ukraine. Honestly, it's about time someone looked into his offshore accounts...

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/09/2022 15:36

Their stated objective was to use techniques which were slow but saved more lives both sides.
("Their" in the context in which you use it can only refer to Russian forces, which invaded Ukraine.)

It wasn't, you know. The stated Russian objective was to take Kyiv in a few days, in order to replace the government there. They started with completely unprovoked bombardment of a civilian city: hardly the best way to save lives.

Their stated objectives change every time they fail to achieve what they said that the last one was, but that was what they said they were doing to begin with.

MissConductUS · 06/09/2022 15:39

good point. One of the giveaways.

we are perhaps giving him helpful hints here you know ;)

But in the end a Russian shill, or one of any other variety I suppose, will have to give away their bad faith in one way or another.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 06/09/2022 15:29

Thanks for this magicfox, Larry F always worth reading.

@MagicFox thanks for the link.

Copying the final para below:

If Moscow was truly confident that it could hold on to its gains and possibly extend them, it would have kept the gas pipelines open, taking the revenues and giving itself a reasonable chance of holding on to lucrative markets over the long-term. It is a sign of a loss of confidence, even desperation, that as Russia is failing as a military superpower it is jeopardising its position as an energy superpower.

Putin is betting the house in turning off the taps to Europe (if you pardon the mixed metaphors). Feels like a scorched earth tactic. If Europe does not back down, Putin is running out of levers.

Except maybe forced conscription in Russian cities.

prettybird · 06/09/2022 15:58

It's excellent - but long overdue Hmm - news that Germany is delaying the planned closure of its nuclear power stations Smile

LoveLarry · 06/09/2022 16:58

Aww I missed another one

You can tell the Russians are getting desperate when they up the propaganda.

We had another at the weekend about Mrs Zelenska

All that faux "what? Little old me" coupled with some quite deranged ranting a

It's interesting to see what the bot farms think will engage us little woman

NATO is assembling winter uniforms and field equipment for the UAF.

twitter.com/nexta_tv/status/1566892023956881408

Given the logistics involved, this is good planning. I would advise having the Alaska National Guard provide winter combat training as well. It's their specialty.
