We’ve just paid off our mortgage - can I get a virtual high five?

Just that, really - we’ve been incredibly fortunate with shares and just cashed in a load to pay off our mortgage balance. I don’t want to tell anyone in real life as I’m aware of how privileged we are to do this at our age (41/42) and don’t want to be boastful, but I also want to have a brief moment of “squeeeeeeee, we did it!!!” I can’t believe this house belongs to us and we no longer share it with the bank 😁

Congratulations what an achievement x

Congratulations! And what a relief it must be to not have that cost every month!

torthecatlady · 11/08/2022 16:41

High Five! Congratulations!

It's an amazing feeling. I didn't tell many people in real life either.

Congratulations!!

Get your tin hat on though, someone posted similar recently and the jealousy was astounding.

Snap! Also haven’t told anyone. Well done 👏🏻

[high five]

The cards sometimes fall in our favour, don't they. Nice!

InTheCup · 11/08/2022 16:42

Congratulations!! Have two ✋️✋️

findingsomeone · 11/08/2022 16:43

That's amazing, well done 👏

thinking123 · 11/08/2022 16:43

Very happy for you. We should be doing the same in a few weeks time. I still remember signing the paper work for my first house, I looked at my dh and said "we did it we own a house" my rather miserable solicitor jumped in with " well the bank does dear". Way to piss on someone's chips!

gogohmm · 11/08/2022 16:44

4 more months here! But we have pledged (to each other) to save that money for early retirement

dudsville · 11/08/2022 16:45

How exciting, high five! Sure you've been fortunate, but/and also you've worked towards a goal and achieved it, and it's a massive one. Hope you have something cold to celebrate with! My mum was finally able to do this after decades of hardship when she was 68 and I'm thrilled for her.

SuperCamp · 11/08/2022 16:45

Nice one! ✋

FlibbertyGiblets · 11/08/2022 16:45

I only told one of my many sisters and my best buddy. No one else.

KoalaPineapple · 11/08/2022 16:46

Congratulations fantastic at your age as well what a wonderful feeling 😁

HerRoyalHappiness · 11/08/2022 16:46

Huge well done to everyone who's achieved this. I'm 31 and haven't even got a mortgage so this seems like a distant fantasy to me (I'm disabled and chances of me winning the lottery are slim)
High five ✋️

DorisWallis · 11/08/2022 16:48

Congratulations!

31 years to go here…😭😭😭

Sapphirensteel · 11/08/2022 16:52

It’s a great feeling isn’t it? Congratulations.

Saucery · 11/08/2022 16:53

That will be us soon. It must be a great feeling - looking forward to it!
I remember the mortgage arranger going through the list of things she deemed ‘essential’ and I mentally moved some things into the Essential pile while thinking Blimey, 25 years is a long time! Grin

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 11/08/2022 16:53

Congrats OP!

KatieBenz · 11/08/2022 16:54

Congratulations! 🎉. We paid ours off last week. It’s such a relief! We only told our (adult) children, my parents and a couple of work colleagues.
