Agree Quia it’s very undemocratic and unMinisterial behaviour. Unfortunately the Committees’ powers seem to be quite limited to force attendance.
As with so many things with lack of responsibility and probity in this disgusting grubby Johnson government they are behaving like Mike Ashley from Sports Direct with their contemptuous attitude to select committees holding them to account.
Do we really need to have to start putting in legally enforceable rules to make sure PMs, Ministers and MPs have to carry out their jobs fairly and honestly? Maybe they could just try working with a sense of responsibility and having a few personal and professional moral standards instead? It’s so depressing how they continue to behave despite so many of them saying that Boris Johnson did not behave with appropriate standards.
I’m going to write to my MP about this because it’s definitely a Tory party specific problem. It seems like an absolute symptom of low level corruption spreading about the peer group because we still have a lawbreaking and personally amoral prime minister in charge who has not resigned, has instead set his own terms for leaving, and will not be punished in any way and if Liz Truss gets in, Johnson will probably be back in the cabinet within days or weeks.
