The funny thing is Dorries didn't criticise Johnson for spending £50-60k of party donors money on the flat refurbishment.

But Sunaks suits and shoes were presumably paid for out of his own pocket.

Heaven knows why I am defending Sunak.

I found myself defending Mordaunt the other day. It’s amazing how these weird Tories mess with your head.

DuncinToffee · 25/07/2022 09:50

Johnson ticking off his bucket list jollies on tax payer's money is clearly not a problen for Dorries

Will the 2 candidates address the NHS crisis today?

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2022 10:48

Talking of NHS, the nearest NHS dentist to me taking patients is 32 miles away. I feel a letter to Nadine coming on.

My old practice has booted me out for not going to them for two years. That'll be because I could never make an appointment...

I think it's because Truss is the other option 🫣🤣

@DuncinToffee I very much doubt it - they may put yet another sticking plaster on, or promise to invest - Like Boris did with BREXIT and Hunt recommended more training - it takes 5 years to train a Dr and then 2 years in practice before they decide which training to pursue, nurses take over 3 years. ( and constant ongoing professional development)
I will be voting to strike - not for me but for my junior colleagues and for the sake of the NHS.
People say about going private - I have worked in an overseas system that if you cannot pay an initial deposit then you won't be seen ( waived in a cardiac arrest/ life threatening emergency).
We need to invest in staff to keep staff. The same with education.

guinnessguzzler · 25/07/2022 11:09

Tbf, I'd rather see the mega rich spending their money ethically than hoarding it. I'm not sure of Prada's ethical credentials but you'd hope their shoes aren't being made by little slave kids at that price (Flight of the Conchords reference for you there).

the80sweregreat · 25/07/2022 11:12

Nadine Dorries is really clutching at straws
Most male politicians wear expensive suits and shoes , I doubt anyone is surprised at this , he paid for them himself. I can't see a problem. If Liz Truss prefers cheaper accessories that's her choice too. She could buy slightly more expensive earrings which might last her longer and I still wouldn't care. I doubt most people do.
It's just her trying to start some kind of 'class war ' ? ( not sure ) but it won't work and just makes her look a bit silly ( considering that her best friend Jacob Rees Mogg also wears expensive suits and shoes)
Her support will probably get her to keep her job I suppose if Ms Truss and her earrings win the top job.

countrygirl99 · 25/07/2022 11:28

Surely for the good of the environment we should be buying the best quality we can, as an individual, afford and not buying disposable fashion if we can afford better. So the question is: is LT so bad at managing her own money, after sll she earns way above the average (mean, median or mode, take your pick) that Claires is what she can afford or does she nor give a chuff about the environment or ethical sourcing.

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2022 11:36

I'm wearing a pair of Argos earrings that cost twice that!

But they are gold plated so don't irritate my ears and are about 5 years old!!!

I wouldn't wear Claire's accessory stuff because it's cheap and irritates.

crosstalk · 25/07/2022 11:51

Team Sunak here - at least he can afford his own wallpaper so won't personally be beholden to donors. And I cannot believe in a woman who dresses up as Margaret Thatcher, doesn't know how to pronounce Taoiseach and does incredibly bad trade deals.

As for party members having some say - highly suspect. At least the Tory party insist on a length of membership - to guard against infiltration, one would think, or ensure the Old Guard remain in power. Labour party went for mass membership with no safeguards. AFAIK.

AnneKipankitoo · 25/07/2022 13:15

Resistance is futile

Notonthestairs · 25/07/2022 13:24

Labour Party had a minimum period of membership before leadership elections.

HarrietPierce · 25/07/2022 13:27

Notonthestairs · Today 13:24
Labour Party had a minimum period of membership before leadership elections.

I think it was 3 months when I joined.

DuncinToffee · 25/07/2022 13:40

Tory party is 3 months as well, probably the same for all parties.

DuncinToffee · 25/07/2022 13:41

Some more Cleverly from Braintree

James Cleverly last year backing the NI hike: "Labour just voted against extra funding for social care and frontline NHS services. Wow.”

Cleverly today backing Truss's plan to reverse it: "It's absolutely right that we allow people to keep more of the money they have earned."

Cleverly's response 'war in Ukraine'

Blossomtoes · 25/07/2022 13:53

That’s hilarious 😂

guinnessguzzler · 25/07/2022 13:59

That documentary was enlightening 😁

Notonthestairs · 25/07/2022 14:38

Badenoch suggested something similar didn't she? Tax incentives for married couples. It obviously plays well in Tory focus groups.

Deliberately ignoring single parent households.

jgw1 · 25/07/2022 14:39

And she knows the value of women's work in the home is £2500. Excellent.

Blossomtoes · 25/07/2022 14:53

The irony that it’s the women proposing to keep use barefoot and pregnant.

Blossomtoes · 25/07/2022 14:53

Us even. 🙄

Downnotdown · 25/07/2022 15:16

There are many reasons why I don't want Truss to be our next PM (not that I'm keen on Sunak either) but one thing I dread already is the gloating from the likes of Nadine Dorries and Jacob Rees-Smug.

We will never hear the end of how wonderful they think they are because they backed the 'winner' from the start. And God alone knows what top jobs Truss will be rewarding them with.

Is there no end to this misery? 😡

the80sweregreat · 25/07/2022 16:02

I would imagine that Nadine Dorries and Jacob Rees Mogg will stay on in their current roles if Liz Truss is successful. She can't do a huge amount of damage in that role apart from the odd Twitter post.
My only hope is a win for Richi Sunak and he will replace them both, but I've a feeling that won't happen! JRM isn't in the cabinet anyway is he? Brexit opportunities minister must keep him busy ( trying to find some)
I think they will be around for a while.
