Apologies if there is already a thread on this! But I just want to see what you people think.

So we now know it’s down to Truss or Sunak, anyone have any idea as to who you think it might be in the final?

I had thought it may be Sunak, but then I read something that says the odds are actually in Liz Truss’ favour?

I hope it’s Truss tbh.

Thoughts?

What are your reasons for preferring Liz Truss?

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 20/07/2022 16:31

I hope Truss gets it. She's woeful and will be a gift to Labour.

What are your reasons for preferring Liz Truss?

She just seems to be the no-nonsense, hardworking and get the job done type. Apart from that I don’t really know her!

on other hand, I wouldn’t want Rishi as PM given his role in Partygate and given his and his wife’s financial affairs. He’s out of touch with the ordinary people

Sunak. Truss telling people to go fight for Ukraine if they wanted was irresponsible.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 20/07/2022 16:33

I don't care now. Both will continue with the sensible shit re sex based rights etc.

Both will do incomprehensible shit.

The current financial situation is global, whatever they do we will all experience further hardships

We will have a GE soon enough.

THAT is the really scary thought.

loath Truss but can’t trust a multi millionaire doing his rich friends dirty work.

either way the country is in for a tough time with standards dropping everywhere. The tories have broken Britain.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/07/2022 16:38

Makes no difference. Both shite, but the Tory faithful will vote them in in the same way they voted Johnson in.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 20/07/2022 16:50

Liz is ready to 'hit the ground from day one' apparently...

The lesser of 2 evils - Sunak.

whenwillthemadnessend · 20/07/2022 16:53

God knows but whoever it is will take a miracle to fix all the issues right now.

CraftyGin · 20/07/2022 16:53

I'm a party member so get to vote for these candidates.

I haven't been following the process so far, as I just wanted to wait until down to two candidates.

Leaning towards Sunak, but early days for me.

nancy75 · 20/07/2022 16:55

Loving the idea that Truss is no nonsense, given the fact nothing but nonsense comes out of her mouth…

lickenchugget · 20/07/2022 16:57

Truss is being painted as something completely different from what she actually is. Sunak the lesser of two evils. Neither great, they’ll lose an election.

Must admit this did make me laugh, part of me is sad that these two are the choices the bar is set very low & I thought we had plumbed the depths with Johnson but I suppose that’s what you get when the majority of reasonable non rabid members of the conservative party were driven out & replaced with a bunch of self serving talentless liars who would struggle to find employment anywhere else on the planet.

I know ha. Shes unbelievable

Simonjt · 20/07/2022 17:03

Its just an even crapper version of snog, marry, avoid.

Mydogatemypurse · 20/07/2022 17:03

How is Truss even an option. Im no Tory but god there must be better options in that party. Remember the weird cheese speech? I agree though with other posters... vacant, daft puppets are useful for others in the party... we have seen it before.

TullyApplebottom · 20/07/2022 17:04

do the people who think Sunak’s lack of certain experiences make him a bad bet think the same about starmer?
both come from middle class families. Sunak has worked in finance and made and married money. Starmer is a classic north London lawyer - no exposure to finance, commerce, business in his life. So he seems pretty limited in some important respects too. Does this matter?

FayeGovan · 20/07/2022 17:04

Who would i prefer? None of those 2. The country is broken after 12 years if tory government and they were helping run it.

midsomermurderess · 20/07/2022 17:07

Sunak. I don’t have much appetite for either, but Truss is too weird and I don’t think she is competent . I don’t really care though, because in a year or two they’ll be swept from power. Tick, tock…

nancy75 · 20/07/2022 17:09

Liz Truss, a woman who struggles to find her way out of a room with only 1 door.

Blossomtoes · 20/07/2022 17:10

Truss. She’ll lose the next election in spectacular fashion.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 17:11

Truss. She's so limited that the Tories will have to use the one thing they have over Labour to make her appealing: she knows the difference between sex and gender and isn't afraid to say it.
More sunlight. Then hopefully Labour will get their shit together on this and get stronger.

FourChimneys · 20/07/2022 17:15

Both options fill me with utter despair.
