Tom and Kemi are the best of a bad bunch

theworldhas · 15/07/2022 23:23

Yeah Morduant looks early 40s while Truss looks hitting 60.

I wonder if Rishi is standing on a step

It's weird isn't it. When you see him on his own, he looks like a tall man. Then when you see him with someone else you realise he's actually quite short.

User280905 · 15/07/2022 23:27

I wandered in while dh was watching it and wondered who on earth had styled Liz Truss? How bizarre. I know that's shallow but seriously? If she's not being advised that appearances count then she's not being well advised at all. I heard a podcast interview with her a while back, long before all the current drama, and I thought she came across really well. I was disappointed in her tonight.

Tom seems like a capable pair of hands under pressure but needs more to him than having been in the army. Although maybe a bit of discipline and organisation is what the country needs?

I can't get past Rishi's phenomenal family wealth. I can't relate to him in any way, and I'd like to think I could relate to our new pm. Not that I had much in common with Boris either to be fair.

On balance I'm Team Tom, if he could lay off the army chat a bit.

Then why did none of those floating voters raise it? Mocking someone because they disagree with you is just childish. Brexit is yesterday’s war, despite the ERG’s obsession with it. None of them has a clue how to solve the many problems it’s caused because they’re totally intransigent. The only way it’s going to be settled is by a non Tory government approaching the EU in a sane and sensible way. The arrogant Little Englanders are never going to succeed.

PM does look good if that helps.

I can’t imagine Tom and Starmer up in PMQ - a stale male cheese quagmire

I don't see how looks are relevant but she's chubby so I don't know why people keep going on about her being a looker

This is what Truss was going for

She's a Thatcher wannabe, down to deepening her voice

Posters going on about all their looks though. And yes it does come into it sometimes whether people admit it, or not. I didn’t notice her being chubby Confused

Truss in particular has had some tough posts re looks. At least I was positive because let’s face it people can’t help how they look

Blossomtoes · 15/07/2022 23:57

Because that’s exactly what she is.

Well to quote Will from The Inbetweeners who would make a better PM than this bunch of idiots That was fucking dreadful

This made me laugh. So apt.

So here it is:

cherish123 · 16/07/2022 00:13

Missing the point, but does anyone else think Penny looks like Catherine Deneuve circa 1992

Boris in his day would have wiped the floor with this lot!

Thus proving how fucking shite the Tories are.

@MarshaBradyo the two aren’t mutually exclusive?

APJ1 · 16/07/2022 01:13

[Liz Truss] actually reminds me of - don't laugh - Hannah from S Club 7.

I can see that a bit, now that you say it!

User280905 · 16/07/2022 05:43

I'm not questioning Truss's looks as such, more her judgement and choice of advisers.

Does she honestly think copying Margaret Thatcher's outfit from the 80s is a good idea? Did no-one around her advise her that it's a bad idea?

But then I am quite shallow. I also think "Ready for Rishi" is a really shit slogan so I'd never vote for him. I'm so not Ready for Rishi. Just put your name up, or Vote Rishi.

First impressions count for me. They should put a bit more effort in, or choose better advisers.

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2022 07:01

I think whatever Truss wore she’d get a tough time

But I would like her out so if policies, or how she presents isn’t doing it for many then I guess she’ll be out next

chaosmaker · 16/07/2022 07:49

If one of these has to be the PM then only TT seemed like he wasn't completely the party line through and through. All of them fail to admit that their party is a major cause of the problems we face due to lack of long term planning, appeasing their donors and pretending to care about the majority when their policies clearly show they don't.

For those interested in politics around women, I made this thread www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4588304-to-want-support-to-get-politicians-in-that-will-support-women?reply=118498037
It got less traffic than I was hoping for so posting it here.

mum2jakie · 16/07/2022 08:27

I wasn't going to mention looks as I'm trying not to be so shallow - plus it's frustrating that men don't game the same attention on clothing and appearance.

That aside, I was surprised by how attractive #MoreDirt is. I don't think I gave seen her really before and she is stunning. Shame she was at least partly responsible for this mess around gender recognition and changing birth certificates to a legal falsehood...

I am not impressed with any of them. I do not believe a word any of them say.

I wasn't either.

Yiure forgetting that at the moment they are mainly trying to appeal to the few hundred thousand Conservative meme era, who will decide who the next PM is. They are on the whole white, middle aged men. Of course she’s going to try and look like Thatcher!

And aren’t her main proposers Rees Mogg and Dorries? That tells you everything you need to know about what kind of advise she’s getting.

It’s not so much looks, it’s their psychological choice of how to present themselves that I find fascinating.

Kemi going for the hair up, bold single colour, Kate Middleton look.
Tom - did I mention my military career - and his SBS tie. It makes me want to roll my eyes but would probably land better with the wider party in the unlikely event that he made the final two.
Liz trying to emulate Margaret Thatcher and being sartorially out Maggied by Penny Mordaunt’s statuesque suit.
Rishi, with his open neck rolled up ready to work sleeves like he’s one of us. LOL.

Zilla1 · 16/07/2022 11:14

@cherish123 Dear Penny's mum, you must be so proud.
