Twitter is hilarious about Liz Truss. I think she's toast

Eg, "When you order Margaret Thatcher off Wish"
🤣

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/07/2022 19:52

I can’t watch it.

Load of muppets fiddling while Rome burns.

This

XingMing · 15/07/2022 21:43

In a Tugendhat government, I'd keep Rishi at the Treasury, put Mordaunt into the Home Office, Javid/ Badenoch into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and bring back Jeremy Hunt at Health. Liz Truss would be toast..

MarshaBradyo · 15/07/2022 21:37

Angela Rayner nooo

I don’t want that to happen

Nor me. She flips her views depending on what way the wind is blowing too.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 15/07/2022 21:45

Watched about twenty minutes and just wished I'd got a pile of rubber bricks to hurl at the telly.
(Must see if I can get some !)

Am now watching Father Ted. Think Fr Dougal might do better than this shower.

SpindleInTheWind · 15/07/2022 21:45

That's a shit result - 12% - for Mordaunt. The MPs will need to pay heed to that, as the penny drops (no pun intended) that she's going to deliver unelectability to the Tories.

Watching it now on C4 +1, I'm surprised she managed 12% tbh. It's just endless waffle, the sort that people embroiled in NGOs and NDPBs and the Third Sector spout at each other while trousering enormous salaries.

I'd love to see a proper piece of investigative journalism into her supposed CV.

Not a single word about BREXIT tonight

Absolutely unbelievable

Brexit was definitely the elephant 🐘 in the room!

Fingers crossed.

Not a single word about BREXIT tonight

Yep. That festering self-inflicted wound is the elephant in the room, ins't it?

Kant · 15/07/2022 21:48

Ha. X-post with mum2

XingMing · 15/07/2022 21:51

Brexit is finished as a conversation. Tom Tugendhat, half-Danish, with a French wife, will be far more congenial to Brussels. He might even manage to get a proper sensible discussion.

BotterMon · 15/07/2022 21:53

Didn't watch but Tom's a nice genuine guy. Bit out of his depth though at this level. He was also anti-Brexit so would be great as FS to broker better deals for us with the EU.

We're doomed!

I'll throw my hat in the ring and make my prediction.

Either Truss or Mourdant win and the Tories are TOAST at the next election

Truss is Boris in a skirt and Mourdant has fucked up over the TWAW stuff

Zilla1 · 15/07/2022 21:56

Suspect Mordaunt would beat Sunak in the final two, based on polling so the wonder if Sunak might try to engineer enough of his MPs to support Truss/whomever is the third. Sunak still seems fragile when interviewed with even mild questioning. Hurt/Tantrums/defensive and none of the abilities that would have been developed from someone who hadn't been parachuted in to a safe seat. Still surprised more hasn't been made by his rivals of the implications of the Green card commitment to immigrate to a foreign power and become a citizen while he was an MP for six years and a Chancellor for 1+?

GreenLunchBox · 15/07/2022 22:01

Yes, I agree, Sunak is very thin-skinned. He didnt handle Beth Rugby's questioning well the other day Grin

His granfather is Austrian and his mother is French.

DH served with him and says he is a genuine guy.

Zilla1 · 15/07/2022 22:02

Tactically, I wonder if the Conservatives might be better to call an election on the next favourable event/after doing something substantive rather than lip service on cost of living using the pretext of 'giving the public a vote and for a post-Boris mandate and endorsement' rather than have an election after two more years of cost of living pressures affecting more people . Doubt they will though.

hattie43 · 15/07/2022 22:04

stillherenow · 15/07/2022 19:46

And I think Penny might drop some votes after this ? Bit hopeless .

I agree , she was out her depth , too much rhetoric not much detail

hattie43 · 15/07/2022 22:08

Really like Kemi she is obviously an intelligent lady , Rishi is the only one I'd trust to run the economy , Tom is very likeable and has the human touch not speaking like an automaton politician, Penny Mourdant looks the part but is out her depth . Liz Truss is a modem day Margaret thatcher but although bright doesn't have the charisma .

MissyCooperismyShero · 15/07/2022 22:09

XingMing · 15/07/2022 21:31

Interesting that you think Tom T lacks substance. As an army officer he will have run a group of very young men, and have been expected to deliver them to do their work. Probably only a year older than his squad, but with much higher expectations of performance. Regardless of the useless Rupert trope MN believes, the services are unforgiving of failure to deliver. People's lives depend on competence.

No disrespect at all to Tom and his army service, but I think I'm right in saying he was Int. corp? Who are an entirely different kettle of fish to the Army as I used to imagine it. Loads of graduates plus, even in the ranks, much more collaborative, loads of women and hardly any shouting!

WinterMusings · 15/07/2022 22:10

Tom is the only one who gives me a tiny fragment of hope. Any of the others & we'll be begging Boris to come back.

It just shows that the majority of people don’t care about it any more.

PermanentTemporary · 15/07/2022 22:13

Truss is nothing like Thatcher in any way apart from the blouse.

I'd say Truss is more like the Ridley that used to wear a tartan suit back in the day.

Gymnopedie · 15/07/2022 22:17

I used to be a political correspondent (local radio only, you won't have heard of me 😀) but how I wish I'd been presenting that debate. Rishi should have been told to wind his neck in. he was allowed to speak but every time it was someone else's turn he kept interrupting them and turning it back to what he'd done and why anyone else was wrong.

And a lot of PPs are putting Kemi at the top of their lists. Why wasn't she pulled up when she said that it wasn't a choice between lowering taxes and cutting public services, or maintaining the tax levels to improve the services. She said we could have both, lower taxes AND better public services. Why didn't Krishnan jump in and ask her 'how?'. Otherwise it's just hot air.
