Yiure forgetting that at the moment they are mainly trying to appeal to the few hundred thousand Conservative meme era, who will decide who the next PM is. They are on the whole white, middle aged men. Of course she’s going to try and look like Thatcher!

You’re saying that like they’re going to think that’s a good thing. They know when they’re being played - or at least the one I’m married to does. He said that if she thinks being a Thatcher tribute act is going to be enough she’s deluded. He’s pissed off that he won’t have a chance to vote for Tugendhat.

Cuck00soup · 16/07/2022 11:30

It occurs to me that it might be interesting to reverse the process. Let the party vote for the wider group and then put the two with the most votes forward for the MPs to vote.

This would potentially give us Penny vs Tom in the top two with Tom to take the win.

@cherish123 Dear Penny's mum, you must be so proud.

Mordaunt's mother died when she was in her teens.

HPFA · 16/07/2022 14:22

It was a terrible display. I guess this was why they took so long getting rid of Boris.

A lot of people liked Tom but I thought he seemed a little smug. "Bring in the army" isn't the solution to everything either.

Felt Rishi was the best of a bad bunch - he at least seemed to have some connection to Planet Earth and reality.

Penny Mordaunt very dull - no idea what that "180 innovations" thing was all about and her idea of a central register of people who could be called up for cancelled appointments seemed unworkable. On the trans issue - why on earth didn't she stick to her original position or give a reason for why she's since changed it? She seems to have united TRAs and GC people on something though so maybe we should give her credit for that!

Kemi Badenoch actually seemed the most likeable - she was the only one I could imagine having a conversation with even though we'd disagree on everything. But her pitch was hopelessly incoherent - she kept saying she was the one who would be "honest and upfront about tackling problems" but her reaction to Net Zero is "it's too difficult" and elsewhere she's said "housebuilding" is too difficult. So what are these "difficult problems" she thinks only she has the strength to confront.

Truss was woeful - her delivery was wooden , her "ideas" for the economy lacked any basis in reality and the Thatcher imitation is just embarrassing. Thatcher's politics were not mine and I think she did a lot of damage but as a political heavyweight she was light years away from anyone on this panel.

The Labour Party did produce this rather funny video about it all.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:29

The official Labour Party did that? Why the fuck did they dub Krishnan with that voice?

HPFA · 16/07/2022 14:30

cakeorwine · 15/07/2022 21:02

I wonder what the Labour front bench thought of that? Probably a lot of chatter on their Whats App group and commenting on the economics of their plans

Don't know about Keir but Rachel Reeves must have been loving it. They were all hopeless on the economy and she's a good performer.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:36

Is that just me listening to the opening questions, "why should anyone trust any of you?" with my mouth agape? Who thought that was a good idea?

Really? I find her so bad to listen to

It was an excellent idea. There’s no public trust in politicians as the request for a show of hands revealed - not a single hand went up. It’s the major political issue right now and they need to start repairing that trust.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:45

No, you've missed my point. Look at how they have dubbed Krishnan's voice in that 'funny' Labour video when he asks that particular question.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:46

Or more accurately, I made that point poorly. Have a look at that video.

That’s the real voice of the guy asking the question. It’s not a dub of Krishnan’s voice.

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2022 14:49

Please he audience was typical for the occasion, skewed to public sector / health etc

Re questioners I doubt they vote for more than Labour

I don’t know why questions can’t be more broad from cross section of sectors and incomes

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2022 14:50

The audience…

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:52

Right at the beginning of the video?? I've been listening to him read the news since newsround days, I know what he sounds like.

So the dismal performances were the audience’s fault because they were all Labour voters who weren’t reflecting the public’s main concerns? You’re really scraping the barrel now.

Watch it again. The voice belongs to the Asian man he’s holding the microphone for. It’s not dubbed.

stillherenow · 16/07/2022 14:55

@HPFA I find Rachel Reeves impressive too.

You really do quote every time don’t you and paraphrase incorrectly

i said they were skewed and they were.

they were mostly public sector or health.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:56

Ah, well now I feel like a twat. I'll stand down 😬

How do you know? The only person who identified their occupation was the doctor who asked the health question.

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2022 14:59

And I said from questioners who announced jobs.

They could have more of a cross section of sectors

It’s probably not as interesting for TV as you don’t get the same type of question but I’d like to see more

We’re not public sector and the conversation is often dominated by it

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 15:01

I realise I've obliterated all credibility at this point, but I think there was definitely a head teacher too.

Blossomtoes · 16/07/2022 15:02

So one person disclosed their occupation and she was a doctor, ergo the whole audience was public sector. You have no more idea than I do what the spread was, ie none.

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2022 15:05

There was a HT, doctor, carer question can’t recall other

I don’t remember a question from an SME for example. I’d like more breadth it’s not a big ask. If you don’t agree great for you I don’t really care.

Anyway it’s a lovely day and endless quoting is dull - it’s every time.
