I find woke is used as a term to shut down debate.

If you want to discuss equality and inclusion you are a "woke lefty".

I'm actually all for equality and inclusion. I'm also quite anti woke in some things.

When people on the internet can start excepting we aren't all encompassing if a view and can agree and disagree with Serbian things the better we will become as a country - and the stringer we will become as well.

Debate is a necessary tool for improvement.

itsgettingweird · 19/07/2022 21:33

Should have said debate is necessary for progression.

jgw1 · 19/07/2022 21:33

Roussette · 19/07/2022 21:23

It's the tone and 'woke lefty' type thing

I just find the tone one of jealousy because they don't have the same level of compassion.

cakeorwine · 19/07/2022 21:37

itsgettingweird · 19/07/2022 20:43

No problem with having a different opinion, just that you won't back it up.

So why is Elwood a weasel?

This. People are writing about Dorries behaviour at HoC and linking to it. Evidenced.

Very different to calling someone who tried to save a terrorist attack victims life a weasel for having the whip removed because they are working abroad for the safety of their country.

I'd be saying exactly the same thing if this was ordinary people in an ordinary workplace having such different treatment.

I would love to see a Minister defend that on the media rounds tomorrow.

Would anyone like to guess what would happen where I work if someone behaved like Dorries did on Monday?

Totally agree. No compassion and often bigoted

"-Janiie now just types very nasty things in an attempt at humour and just does it for attention. Quite sad really.'

Very ignorant things.

itsgettingweird · 19/07/2022 21:45

I ran a training course for staff today.

What I teach can be difficult to get people on board because some people have such fixed ideas about it.

If any of them started shouting boring etc because they don't agree instead of engaging, questioning and speaking to me they'd be out and I'd guarantee my boss wouldn't take their side.

Cornettoninja · 19/07/2022 21:46

Woke has been repurposed as the new ‘bleeding heart liberal’. It’ll also be overused and a marker of age soon enough because it’s basically people saying ‘I’m a horrible person and I’m going to be horrible to you for recognising that. BUT I haven’t got anything of substance to attack you with so I’ll turn woke into a playground sneer’

brexit board plenty of excitable backslaps going on there

why on earth would you be on the Brexit board Janiie? It’s done, finito. Move on.

Brexit is now just ‘politics’.

I know in my workplace they’d forever get ‘boring’ shouted at them. My colleagues don’t let embarrassment die easy Grin

Exactly. At the time KS was making a point in a reasonable way and she was just bellowing. So bloody rude in ANY circumstances. I find her horrible, I know that's maybe not the thing to say, can't help it.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 19/07/2022 22:06

But it was horrible.

So childish and I expect better from these politicians who work for us.

If she took issue with what he was saying then challenge it in a way that reflects what we are paying her to be there.

Defending such behaviour says more about the defender than anything they actually say or type.

The fact even Johnson looked unhappy at her behaviour speaks volumes.

He fights a good fight and often turns it into a pantomime bad cop scene but I don't believe even he's behave like that.

In mine they would certainly get the sack, not least for turning up totally pissed. Quite astonishing that someone who thinks that sort of behaviour is appropriae has the power to make important laws and policy. I do hope Johnson is prevented from shunting her to the Lords.

it’s a tough position for some as ND is so entrenched as part of his circle.

I wonder if he’s realised he’s never going to shake her.

cakeorwine · 19/07/2022 22:14

I wonder if someone could ask Dorries if it is appropriate to yell "Boring" at someone in a workplace when they are making a speech?

My MP was very keen to tell me that the MP standards process was all wrong at the time of the Paterson affair and should reflect more closely the process in other workplaces. Strangely he has failed to engage each time since when the Prime Minister and others have been defending behaviour that would get people sacked from my place of work...

You mean she should have stood up. asked if Keir Starmer would give way and when he did, she should have just said "Boring" and sat down.

I think that's how you are supposed to do it in Parliament.

I wonder what the reaction would be?

If a child says to me I am bored, I suggest that is because they have no interesting ideas in their head. Do we think this could be the case for the Culture Secretary as well?

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/07/2022 00:08

Methinks the dcms minister spends more time considering the culture part of the job title than the rest, specifically the drinking culture.

Everytime I've seen her give an interview or speak I've been left with the impression she was drunk. That performance was no different.
Johnson didn't look comfortable with her leaning into him either, she was practically sitting in his lap.
Thats just my opinion though through observations I have made.

The conservative party has turned into a parody of itself, and is becoming dangerous.

Piggywaspushed · 20/07/2022 07:02

As we know - sigh- Nadine is my MP. Much bitching about her yesterday on community Facebook when someone asked how to contact her. She is a terrible constituency MP. I cannot think of a single redeeming feature (and there is more I could say about her in a personal capacity but won't).

This is a very Blue area. I am actually hoping she goes to the Lords and we get at least an improvement in the MP,although with the current crop, perhaps not. But a new one might live slightly more locally. That's how low the bar is.

Roussette · 20/07/2022 07:24

How on earth do these MPs get voted in? It's beyond me. Mine is a male version of yours @Piggywaspushed
Why do people vote for him??? No constituency office, impossible to get hold of, doesn't reply to emails, ineffectual where I live.

This area will never go labour, but why not LD who is always second place. Last GE we had a really good prominent LD candidate who founded Save British Food, and speaks up for farmers, important where I live. Such an opportunity to vote for her, instead the Tory candidate who spends his time in Westminster or at his country farm in Norfolk, and not here, was voted in with a 20,000 majority. Just sacrilege.

I know! but at least Ange has stopped bellowing 'scum' so someone has obviously told her to stfu. She tends to sit and sneer like a bored teenager nowadays.

Notonthestairs · 20/07/2022 07:49

PMQs today. There is a lot to sneer about frankly.

ah whataboutery!

At least Rayner apologised, though tbh she had nothing to apologise for, what else do you call MPs who vote to make the very poorest children in the country go without food?
