Spot the Boris fans

Wow. Mark Thomas rips into Boris Johnson on receiving his honorary doctorate from @UniKent in Canterbury Cathedral
twitter.com/Ian_Fraser/status/1548268419979522048?t=brTpWD0cFZj8rD37CMOT2A&s=19

For a second I thought that was going to be Boris Johnson receiving the doctorate!!! I was shocked. (Especially as Kent is ds's old university) lol

Good old Mark Thomas!

Am I right in thinking this is the first Cobra meeting they've had regarding the extreme heatwave, even though they've known about it for days?

No, you are wrong - today must be the third Cobra meeting - they were held on Monday and Thursday:

And how many has dear Boris attended?

And how many has dear Boris attended?

The grand total of none.

DuncinToffee · 16/07/2022 21:57

Matt Green

Boris Johnson began his time in office by skipping COBRA meetings about a deadly pandemic. It’s somehow fitting that he’s leaving it skipping COBRA meetings about a deadly heatwave. The man is consistent in his not giving a toss about other people, you have to give him that.

@Clavinova it is great that you are back, I for one had really missed your cut and pastes, they bring so much to each thread you contribute to.

Who are you cheering for in the big race?

cakeorwine · 16/07/2022 22:05

You would wonder if they might do an announcement from the Number 10 Briefing Room with Johnson urging people to look out for neighbours etc.

Except that would mean him showing leadership and getting the big calls right

itsgettingweird · 16/07/2022 22:06

Was Johnson at any of the 3 COBRA meetings?!

tobee · 16/07/2022 22:16

Why would he be?

Clavinova · 16/07/2022 22:21

And how many has dear Boris attended?

No idea - prime ministers do not always, or even routinely, chair Cobra meetings.

ancientgran · 16/07/2022 22:21

He's having a party at Chequers isn't he, thank you to his supporters. Shame it's not in a phone box.

Clavinova · 16/07/2022 22:29

Who are you cheering for in the big race?

Not sure yet - Sunak probably, although I don't mind Penny Mordaunt or Liz Truss.

Blossomtoes · 16/07/2022 22:32

Truss is really going for it now.

Liz Truss has pledged to scrap “Whitehall-inspired Stalinist housing targets”, saying she would do away with “Labour approaches” in favour of tax cuts and deregulation to encourage firms to build new homes

I really like Tugenhat.

But as he won't even get through Monday I suspect I also would back Sunak. Not because I particularly like him but I think he's the most qualified in finance and we need someone who gets it rather than makes wild promises in charge right now.

Wouldn't back Mordaunt or Truss. Mordaunt faltered too much in the debate yesterday and doesn't seem to have the leadership qualities or intelligence (and said a vasectomy wouldn't make her less of a woman 🤦‍♀️) and Truss seems more and more out of her death as it goes on.

Badenoch is also very dangerous imo in her far right approach and will damage our future generation who we need to help build the country by decimating education even further.

Carole Cadwalladr is such a great journalist.

tobee · 17/07/2022 02:20

Why are people enabling the disgraced pm to pretend he's a top gun pilot? He should have left Downing Street days ago and resigned as pm not embarking on a fucking farewell tour. Anyone who disagrees need to think hard about the message they send.

DuncinToffee · 17/07/2022 09:37

I'm sure clavinova can give plenty of examples of PM's missing emergency Cobr meetings in favour for dressing up and parties.

DowningStreetParty · 17/07/2022 09:45

Christ. More handing out actual skilled important jobs as rewards for unswerving personal loyalty. This is corruption in plain sight. The Tories must get Boris out as PM. This has gone on long enough.

Notonthestairs · 17/07/2022 09:46

Given Johnson doesn't do detail and has to be dragged in to taking any action I'm quite pleased he missed Cobra and went off to play with planes.

Leave the governing to the grown ups.

However I do think it's time we stopped paying him to mess about and throw parties.

And more jobs for friends. Constant pattern. We don’t need his legacy of over-promoted people not up to these jobs on merit. We’ve got crises on several fronts and need the cleverest people we can get to be running things.

ancientgran · 17/07/2022 10:06

I wonder how many people who were invited to the cancelled big party to celebrate the Johnsons' wedding are attending his leaving party. A rose by any other name and all that.

DuncinToffee · 17/07/2022 10:15

Good point ancientgran
