@itsgettingweird breaking international treaties to set things straight isn't the way to go - it will just tell the world that the UK cannot be trusted as a political or trading partner.

I haven't said anything about breaking international treaty Confused

I've said the opposition have clearly stated they won't revoke Brexit and made the position clear so there is no longer a remain and leave argument are we won't go back.

What Labour have said is they need to fix it and intend to.

Tory have been quiet on this front with their campaigning.

I'm actually quite insulted you think I back breaking international treaty.

You can't "get behind" something that was bought with a dud cheque like Brexit. This is why it's so poisonous. It was not "the will of the people". It was the will of some people amplified by outright lies through a media machine awash with foreign money. All of which has been proven. It is an irritating feature of facts us they remain true even when you ignore them,

Even if it was the will of the people at the time, people are allowed to change their minds.

Worth remembering that the Tory was not and has never been "the Brexit party".

One thing that is totally true is that all have to accept the damage it has done - and I have certainly accepted that. But that's all the more reason to fix it.

From your post above mine:

It needs to be so,some who accepts brexit is done but knows it's a crap deal and breaks treaties and gets to setting brexit right - not who want to try and reverse it.

You may not have intended it that way, but it does come across as if you approve of breaking treaties to set Brexit right.

BTW the only way to 'set Brexit right' is to rejoin the Customs Union and the Single Market, which the Labour party are too chicken to do.

I agree that Starmer has to be pragmatic about Brexit. Reversing it now would be incredibly divisive, despite the fact that support has fallen very substantially, and it's not as if EU are likely to be forgiving and generous if we ask to go back in. But it could make a major difference to have a government which deals with the EU like a grown-up, which is more than Johnson and his mates have ever done.

When we heard about the cancellation of the wedding at Chequers plans, my immediate thought was "Good luck finding an alternative venue at three weeks' notice". But then I realised that of course it won't be a problem because Johnson will have lined up a rich benefactor to "donate" somewhere at least equally lavish.

If I were a journalist, I would make it my business to dig into discovering what favour it is that Boris has done to that benefactor. It will almost inevitably prove to be either sending a fat government contract or two their way, or covering up something they don't want publicised.

Was meant to say doesn't Blush

Bloody iPad and me not proof dreading!

itsgettingweird · 09/07/2022 10:02

I actually think I meant the person who takes over need to know it breaks treaties and reverses it.

I do know I'm certainly not advocating our current deal Grin

pointythings · 09/07/2022 10:11

@itsgettingweird that makes a whole lot more sense!
