Hurrah.

So let me see if I understand this. He has bluffed, blustered and bullshi**ed his way through since 2019. But now he is 'caretaker' PM he is suddenly going to develop a sense of responsibility, apply himself thoroughly to the job and not treat it like a jolly? Got it

Parentsofaprincess · 07/07/2022 22:24

Worse thing to happen to this country right now. But he had to resign given the situation he put himself in.

noodiedoodie · 07/07/2022 22:41

So his own party don't want him anymore but the country has to put up with him until the autumn! Un-f-ing-believable

eastegg · 07/07/2022 22:46

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 09:40

He's going to be our first Prime Minister for Life.

Like a bag for life but much less reliable.

Norwegiancopice · 08/07/2022 01:19

He should go straight away. He isn't trusted and Dominic Rhaab should be the caretaker PM until a new one is elected.

I think Mordaunt would be a very interesting leader.

Not because I like her or think she'd be great.

But because of her trans opinions.

If everyone refuses Labour because of their TWAW stance it'll be interesting when it's a PM with the same beliefs.

Having equally bad choices for women is a terrible idea. Let's hope it doesn't come to that

itsgettingweird · 08/07/2022 10:30

Oh don't get me wrong.

I'm not advocating for her.

But so many refuse to vote Labour purely on the knowing what a woman is issue.

They're happy for the lies and decent and removal of basic human rights for everyone for this one fact.

So if we had. Tory with the same stance in this as Labour - I'd be interested to see what the electorate did then.

ApplesandBunions · 08/07/2022 10:52

Yes, I read that as meaning that since there are senior Tories who hold genderist beliefs and a very real chance one will become PM, the idea that voting Tory means you at least get someone who knows what a woman is doesn't actually stand up.

JocelynBurnell · 08/07/2022 11:05

"Boris Johnson wants to stay on as caretaker Tory leader in part to throw a big wedding party at Chequers later this month, sources claim."

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2022 11:23

Load of media rubbish - they hardly need Chequers for that, and it's not as if he can't afford other venues

Ncwinc · 08/07/2022 11:27

But you can’t just hire Chequers. Having your wedding party there would lend it a certain cachet.

DeclineandFall · 08/07/2022 11:38

Why are the Tories letting him stay on? I'm presuming he is just refusing to budge. The party will continue to haemorrhage support the longer he is left there. It looks weak and there will be more scandals to follow ad nauseum until the autumn.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 08/07/2022 11:44

If they elect a leader that says TWAW, then they also become unelectable. I think if this happens there will be more spoiled ballots, or more votes for independents.

I won't be shamed for having a line in the sand, we all vote for what matters personally.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2022 12:24

Forgive me while I try to arrange my features into an expression suggesting I care Wink

Mirw · 08/07/2022 12:53

And the next one will be any better since it will be one of the others who resigned, like R Sunak Esq! They are all the same... rich men with a sense of entitlement! There should be a general election hopefully with not enough of one colour to have a one party government. The only way change will happen as long as the second party is not the Greens!

Because they have no choice. At least not before next week, when the 1922 Committee has a chance to change the party rules.

And they don't trust each other. There's no candidate for caretaker that they can all agree on. I think they'll regret not putting Raab in as a seat-warmer and expediting the selection process. Given another 2-3 months and the summer recess, Johnson will be thinking he can make a come-back.

With both Starmer and Rayner now cleared by Durham Police that Tory hope has been dashed.

Peders · 08/07/2022 15:49

So why doesn't he just see the Queen and quit NOW. His deputy can take over the job.

When Churchill resigned in the 1950's he just left office (as did Anthony Eden also in the 50's). There was no need for a three month's delay before they quit office. So why is there a 3 months delay now.

SerendipityJane · 08/07/2022 16:11

Big fat hairy bollocks to that there's always a choice.
And anyone who believes otherwise is - frankly a bit dim.

Remember when Boris was potentially at deaths door in 2020 ? Mysteriously the choice was to put Dominic Raab (who is deputy PM, let's not forget) in charge.

In fact why the fuck bother with a deputy PM if they can't deputise ?

No, BJ clinging on is the final two fingers of the Tory party to those people stupid enough to have ever imagined that shower of crooks, criminals and perverts could ever govern responsibly.

SerendipityJane · 08/07/2022 16:14

Pretty much spot on.

Johnson resigns!
DogInATent · 08/07/2022 16:28

And anyone who believes otherwise is - frankly a bit dim.

Come on genius, what's the mechanism they can invoke? What am I so dim as to have missed?

They fluffed the 1922 Committee confidence vote opportunity and need a rule change to have another go - which they have said won't be done before Monday at the earliest. Johnson's a narcissistic sociopath with no sense of duty or responsibility to call upon. Johnson has to either step down willingly (unlikely) or the it's an internal Conservative party matter to depose him.

SerendipityJane · 08/07/2022 16:35

Come on genius, what's the mechanism they can invoke? What am I so dim as to have missed?

I have literally just told you.

I have literally just told you.

I'm not sure infecting him with Covid is a valid mechanism.

Under those circumstances Johnson relinquished control to Raab.

What is your solution for either persuading him to voluntarily relinquish control, or to force him?

SomewhereInTheMIdlands · 08/07/2022 17:42

Lets hope more scandals pour out of the woodwork. The boris/tory devotees are still not convinced that we are experiencing the worst government in living memory and probably long before that and as such they need to be personally affected or offended. They are now the party of corruption, sleaze and incompetence and have been for the last 12 years or so. Given another innings, we will have a fully privatised NHS and almost zero social services, education will be only for the very well off and good jobs will be allocated by cronyism and nepotism (they already often are).

SomewhereInTheMIdlands · 08/07/2022 17:44

Yes

Rabbitholedigger · 08/07/2022 17:48

"Given another innings, we will have a fully privatised NHS"

Didn't illegal war mongerer Blair start this?
