Hurrah.

Every right-winger who wants to ban abortion and penalise single lone parents knows what a woman is. So what?
We need policies to improve the economy, it is heading into freefall at the moment and no one is doing anything about it.
We need policies to protect the poorest and most vulnerable. Currently, they are constantly penalised and are more likely to be women and children.
We can have a Prime Minister who openly says what a woman is while taking away abortion and cutting benefits and fucking up the economy even more. So what?

pointythings · 07/07/2022 14:12

@Lola4321 well, you're clearly a single issue voter. Me, I care a lot more about people not being able to afford essentials like housing, food, heating. I care about the underfunding of the NHS and the rowing back of the right to protest and take the government to court. I care about the stifling of trade caused by Brexit, which is hitting small businesses hardest. I care about people being deported to an undemocratic country instead of being decently treated. I care about the erosion of education and the slow death of the humanities. I care about the GFA and peace in Northern Ireland. But you do you.

Every right winger wants to ban abortion?

TimBoothseyes · 07/07/2022 14:15

Good. That speech was as pathetic as he is. The sooner that grubby little man is out the better. I hope he never sets foot in front of a camera again.

I said every right-winger WHO wants to ban abortion...

romatheroamer · 07/07/2022 14:22

One of the sobbing Boris supporters on 5L said "These people wouldn't be anywhere without him...."
Absolutely right. Braverman, Dorries, Mogg...

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 14:23

@Lola4321 How does the Supreme Court knowing what a woman is protect the right to abortion in the US?

What has the Supreme Court in the US have to do with the UK?

What does anything have to do with anything ?

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2022 14:33

Steven Swinford AT steven_swinford
I'm told that the 1922 committee is powerless to stop Boris Johnson from staying on as caretaker prime minister - whatever the feeling is among Tory MPs

The only lever they have is to ensure that the contest is expedited as quickly as possib le

Just get fucking on with it then!

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2022 14:38

Re starmer v johnson.

Is it possible that both are spineless jerk offs who dislike women in their own ways?

In terms of culture war, thats where i get pissed off. BOTH parties are fuelling it rather than knocking the entire bullshit extremes on the head like they should.

That makes both weak

The consensus within the uk on the trans stuff and abortion is very firmly not where either party is placing themselves unequivocally and clearly. And thats the problem.

pointythings · 07/07/2022 14:39

@Lola4321 yeah, yeah, women's rights are the only thing that matter and if we don't stop the trans brigade civilisation will come to an end. We've crossed words on this before.

Nope. Essentials first. I know too many people who are living in poverty because of the current government and their policies.

And when it comes to women's rights I would focus on the gender pay gap, the lack of rape convictions, abortion rights and everyday sexism first.

@pointythings I am the same, we can not allow our country to continue to be underfunded and shown the sheer contempt that it has been. We need to be voting for who is more likely to get in and start to fund our schools and our NHS, I don't believe that is a Tory government.
I'm also unsure why "knowing what a woman is" is solely aimed at kier starmer, the rights are being eroded under a Tory government, are people really buying into what is being said over what is actually being done. All this they are trying is rubbish, they could stop it, they don't want to as they don't give a toss about women, or the disabled or anyone else for that matter unless they are white and male.

Thinkbiglittleone · 07/07/2022 14:44

Oh sorry tories don't give toss unless you are white, male and wealthy forget the last one !

JocelynBurnell · 07/07/2022 14:46

The Benny Hill theme summed up Johnson's premiership perfectly.

"I am a very left wing feminist but I would prefer Boris Johnson over Starmer."

"...ordinarily I'd define myself as centrist."

You can't be both a centrist and very left-wing.

Staffy1 · 07/07/2022 14:50

Couldn’t help reading that in Brian Blessed’s voice: “Gordon’s alive!”/“Johnson resigns!”.

Bollindger · 07/07/2022 14:51

Well Labour just lost the NEXT election.
The New PM has 2 years to use to plan.
Labour would like a plan, any plan will do , but first someone in the party needs to come up with a plan.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/07/2022 14:52

He thinks he can still save his job

I would't worry; having achieved this, no doubt Cummings has plenty more dirt to throw if Boris tries

TBH I'm just grateful he's going, though am not convinced any of the obvious contenders will be much of an improvement

If only we had a decent opposition ...

I'm not so sure. I wouldn't want to be PM at the moment, leading whichever party, because it is going to take more than two years to resolve the issues the country faces.

Brexit has seen off 3 prime ministers in succession and will see the next 3 off until the aberration that led to it is corrected.

CPL593H · 07/07/2022 15:32

Keir Starmer needs to follow through on that no confidence vote, ASAP.

Jannie62 · 07/07/2022 15:33

One reason, I suspect, Johnson is being allowed to stay on as Leader is that some nasty, shitty little piece of legislation can be pushed through, just before the Summer recess, and it will bear his name only. I wonder what that could be…?
