Hurrah.

OP posts:
bonkersbirdie · 07/07/2022 12:47

It was like an Oscar acceptance speech thanking his fans and celebrating how wonderful he was.

If only will smith had been there...

sobeyondthehills · 07/07/2022 12:47

Did anyone catch the bit where he said something about detectives and leaks?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/07/2022 12:48

Lampzade · 07/07/2022 12:41

His so called ‘resignation’ speech was a joke.
This man does not think that he has done anything wrong. Deluded, liar poor excuse for a PM

Was it a resignation speech? Sounded to me like a, we will look into replacing me from next week.

My money is on BJ still being here at the end of the year.

Libertybear80 · 07/07/2022 12:49

Now let's see the Tory party self combust 🤣

He has resigned as party leader not prime minister

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/07/2022 12:54

About bloody time! Although if Raab takes over, that's hardly going to be an improvement. In fact, I don't think any of the ones who are left would be.

Massive shitshow.

whynotwhatknot · 07/07/2022 12:59

thems the breaks

wtf is he on about

Yes something about the protection force being the only outfit that doesn't leak. Pot/kettle anyone ?!

reesewithoutaspoon · 07/07/2022 13:01

He's not going to go out with a whimper. I wouldn't be surprised if he calls a GE just to be a spiteful arsehole. He's proved time and again that he cares not a jot for this country or the people in it.

Eeksteek · 07/07/2022 13:02

Well I’ll be mogadored. I said he’d never do it. I suppose I must give him some credit for being a better man than I thought. Although that’s not exactly praise, just very slightly less criticism.

gryilla · 07/07/2022 13:03

Happy with this outcome (as a Tory supporter who thinks it's long since been time for him to go).

People keep talking about a caretaker government but it doesn't make sense in this context. If we got a new PM tomorrow they would be a full PM, there's no such thing as an interim PM.

It could be done but what's the point - the normal leadership process will kick off next week and take a few weeks to run its course, in the meantime the new cabinet that has just been appointed can keep the lights on.

He has seen the light (finally).

Summerwhereareyou · 07/07/2022 13:05

I would find Abbott more inspiring if she did more to help others with her background whatever heritage to access a good education as she was afforded as so many like her where , a grammar school.
And probably via her own school that she got in.
Then she sent her son to private school.

At this point in time I think this is an utter disaster.

Whatever anyone thinks of Boris he has been strong and vocal over Putin.

Ukraine has certainly valued that strength and support..

Churchill. Technically he was an interim Prime Minister when first appointed.

DriftingDora · 07/07/2022 13:08

GertrudeKerfuffle

Another thing.
All his bleating about needing to focus on important things, like the war in Ukraine. Does he really think that he, Alexander Boris de Piffle Johnson, personally, has anything meaningful to contribute to the situation? Does he think his track record as a terrible Foreign Secretary qualifies him in some way, or that his blustering 'charm' could possibly help?? Or his it just his grandiose Churchillian fantasy that he is pursuing? It's a complete insult to the people of Ukraine. After all the Brexit shambles (inter alia), how can he think that any European leaders could take him seriously? Or anybody anywhere take him seriously for that matter? What an absolute self-aggrandising entitled little scrotum he is. He needs to fuck of to the far side of fuck, cross into every alternate universe where fucking off is possible, and keep fucking off until the end of time.
I think I feel a bit better now.

😀Couldn't have put it better.

Newsflash, Bojo - Churchill you 'aint. Now seems he's trying to give himself a bit more time to hide anything that hasn't come to light yet.

Summerwhereareyou · 07/07/2022 13:08

Thumbs I can't think of any policitians who inspire me at all.
It Seems to be an issue all over look at the USA and France!! And Germany.

I thought it sounded more of a dig, but everytime I hear it, I get distracted by the Benny Hill music

I mean the man I a dick but God I wish I had a fraction of his self confidence.

Am absolutely fuming that our local MP has accepted a cabinet post WTAF !!

If it makes you feel a little better, my local MP is a Tory of such outstanding lack of talent or wit that even at this desperate juncture there is absolutely no chance of her being offered a Cabinet post.

DogInATent · 07/07/2022 13:14

Rubbish. He's been funded by Russian money and has strong ties to the Russian government. He's played to the opportunity for grandiose speeches. The support from the UK is coming from the CDS and MOD.

His support is very superficial, as was pointed out in committee yesterday. For all the materiel that's been transferred to Ukraine he has not stepped up production and procurement so very soon the UK is going to run out of the weapon systems and ammunition that's being sent. That's not just bad for Ukraine, it's bad for the UK and NATO too. He's running the cupboard bare and leaving the bill to his successor.

I remind you that Truss has one of the four great positions of state, and Dorries holds a ministerial post. There is no one so talentless that the country is safe from them being appointed beyond their capabilities.

My MP is the first MP to be fired from the cabinet by 3 different PMs.

I am having a right laugh

Yes that was illuminating and horrifying.

He's protecting Ukraine and leaving is wide open.

Pretty daft when Putin said via a spokesperson London would be first.

Replacing Chamberlain? I don't believe so, my understanding is that Churchill became PM the minute he was appointed by the King. No interim about it. He wasn't party leader at first but that's different.

Livingtothefull · 07/07/2022 13:27

I thought that nothing Johnson said or did could disgust me more than he has already; but after reading his speech (ie read the text of it - I can't bear to look or listen to him) I think I have reached a new level of contempt for him.

Self-aggrandising and self-pitying; that's all we got, an insult to all of us. It was like a party political broadcast not a resignation speech. Apparently he has achieved great things: 'getting Brexit done' (it's still not done and what has been done is mostly a disaster); 'getting this country through the pandemic' (er we got ourselves through it mostly with limited help from the Government, they were too busy partying), 'getting the fastest vaccine roll-out in Europe' (thanks to the medics who worked hard to achieve it and no you were not one of them); 'the fastest exit from lockdown' (and in the last few months Covid rates have been going up again).

And the worst one: 'leading the West in standing up to Putin's aggression in Ukraine'. Is it just me or is Johnson's willingness to use the Ukraine war as a figleaf to try mask his failings in an attempt to make himself look statesmanlike, utterly disgraceful and an insult to the Ukrainians?

We can look around us and see where Johnson's government has brought us. And no the future is not looking golden. I don't want him to leave in the Autumn because that is too much time for him to inflict even more damage. He needs to go NOW.
