Hurrah.

Did anyone hear Braverman (I know, who she?) promoting herself on R4 saying it was vital for the country that she stayed in post. I bet Labour are hoping that she wins.
As for BJ, I wouldn't put it past him to say changed my mind, I'm staying.

Lily073 · 07/07/2022 13:30

This is a really arrogant post. "Starmer anyone?". He is in fact an incredibly well respected human rights lawyer, with an outstanding track record of public service, unlike Boris.

The man is a weak and spineless individual who has allowed himself to be repeatedly humiliated by his own deputy countless times. He is an unfit to lead the country as Boris Johnson.

Replacing Chamberlain? I don't believe so, my understanding is that Churchill became PM the minute he was appointed by the King. No interim about it. He wasn't party leader at first but that's different.

Sorry, I meant the other end of his first government. Between the end of the war coalition and the Labour landslide.

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 13:31

@Lily073 Totally disagree. Starmer is very strong. He is just not arrogant. He is more like John Major than Boris Johnson. A competent very intelligent man who can deliver.

Summerwhereareyou · 07/07/2022 13:32

But dog, money and supply issue's have also been Massively affecting the usa.

Boris has been strong against putin and zelensky has thanked him /uk for it because such support hasn't been flowing from many European nations at all.

I know her.

She's my MP.

She's utterly useless when you need her help.

But she has done some good things locally despite this.

AchillesLastStand · 07/07/2022 13:34

Exit means exit. He should be out of No 10 today.

You can say a lot about Starmer but weak and spineless isn't one of them. He's stood up fiercely for human rights before. He's not afraid to stand up for what's right.

I would find Abbott more inspiring if she did more to help others with her background whatever heritage to access a good education as she was afforded as so many like her where , a grammar school.
And probably via her own school that she got in.
Then she sent her son to private school.

At this point in time I think this is an utter disaster.

Whatever anyone thinks of Boris he has been strong and vocal over Putin.

Ukraine has certainly valued that strength and support..

Your post is extremely disingenuous

Abbott is a fantastic constituent MP.
I know people who live in her constituency who said that she is extremely supportive of her constituents many of whom are on the breadline. She is respected by those constituents
I agree that Abbott was hypocritical in that she sent her son to private school even though her reasons for doing so were understandable
However, Boris Johnson could give a master class in hypocrisy
The same Boris Johnson who was ‘vocal about Putin’ is the same Boris Johnson who ( when Foreign Secretary) was involved with a Russian Oligarch who is linked closely to Putin

We shall agree to disagree. I see him as utterly lacking lacking in strategic capability and vision. He has no strength whatsoever and frequently appears as a rabbit caught in the headlights. The Labour party will never get my vote with an ineffectual leader like Starmer. He needs to go.

I thought that nothing Johnson said or did could disgust me more than he has already; but after reading his speech (ie read the text of it - I can't bear to look or listen to him) I think I have reached a new level of contempt for him.

Self-aggrandising and self-pitying; that's all we got, an insult to all of us. It was like a party political broadcast not a resignation speech. Apparently he has achieved great things: 'getting Brexit done' (it's still not done and what has been done is mostly a disaster); 'getting this country through the pandemic' (er we got ourselves through it mostly with limited help from the Government, they were too busy partying), 'getting the fastest vaccine roll-out in Europe' (thanks to the medics who worked hard to achieve it and no you were not one of them); 'the fastest exit from lockdown' (and in the last few months Covid rates have been going up again).

And the worst one: 'leading the West in standing up to Putin's aggression in Ukraine'. Is it just me or is Johnson's willingness to use the Ukraine war as a figleaf to try mask his failings in an attempt to make himself look statesmanlike, utterly disgraceful and an insult to the Ukrainians?

We can look around us and see where Johnson's government has brought us. And no the future is not looking golden. I don't want him to leave in the Autumn because that is too much time for him to inflict even more damage. He needs to go NOW.

I think the problem is structural within the Labour Party rather than specific to Starmer. The damage done under Corbyn has been immense, it's undone many of the reforms done in the decade before that. Starmer is too nice to the party to go swinging the hammer and knocking them into shape.

Fixing UK politics needs more than just one party to step-up. As long as we have FPTP and an adversarial system based on facing-off against each other just far enough apart not to get stabby is unfit for purpose.

I cannot believe that people actually voted this man in.
The man is a complete narcissist, lacks humility and is deluded.
His ‘resignation’ speech just emphasised how unbelievably heartless this man is.
He actually sees himself as a victim ffs.

This

With bells on, plus willing to break a international treaty in regards of NI protocol purging the Tory party of some of the more reasonable & intelligent Mp’s filling the cabinet with incompetent talentless incredibly stupid people.
let’s not forgot the billions of taxpayers money wasted, test & trace fiasco, the very very murky dealings with some Russians.

Thegroaninggurner · 07/07/2022 13:54

He probably wants to stay on till Autumn hoping everyone will forget he's resigned.

He is trying not to get drawn into cultural wars.
He is not particularly left-wing, he is very much a centrist. I think that is what this country needs.
A centrist like Starmer. Not someone particularly on the left or right.
It is why Corbyn supporters hate Starmer because they know he is a centrist.
