BBC Radio 2 has been worth it's weight in cowpat since dearly departed Terry Wogan left. I haven't listened to it in donkey's moons.

boatahoy · 02/07/2022 10:09

The only part of Steve Wright in the afternoon I liked was the 3pm half hour slot. Can't believe they chose Scot Mills though to replace him - I definitely won't be listening.

The only good show left on R2 now is Ken Bruce - I pray they do not interfere with this like they tried to do in the past! I still miss Simon Mayo's drive time and before that his morning show before they gave it to Chris Evans - I'm going back a bit now though!

Thank goodness. The ‘shaaaout out’ thing really got on my nerves. Now if we can just get rid of Elaine’s abysmal show I’ll be happy. I would like an unknown to take over Steve’s slot.

Summerwhereareyou · 02/07/2022 10:23

Don't you dare touch Elaine page! No!!

What on earth do people want to hear.

Where is the actual talent gone?
It seems populated by people with nothing deeper or intelligent to say just the loudest shrillest clanging voices.

Oh no Ive just seen an extra hour of Cox! I hate her mewing voice and namby pamby style. I really don't give a fuck what Helen in Rochdale is having for her 'tea' 😾

Can't bear her voice either, makes my arsehole pucker!

Can't stand SW either, it's a race to switch over after Jeremy Vine every day.

Elaine Paige is fine if you like show tunes, which I don’t. She shouldn’t be in a prime slot. On in the evening maybe.

My thoughts exactly
Down with Elaine and bring in new talent

letsplanaholiday · 02/07/2022 12:42

I'm not a fan of show tunes but I also think that Elaine's show has a dedicated audience and to take that away from them for another mainstream show would be a shame.

DontLikeCoffee · 02/07/2022 12:46

I listen to JV but his way of asking people stupid questions irritates the fuck out of me.

NeedToKnow101 · 02/07/2022 14:34

PritiPatelsMaker · 02/07/2022 09:43

I think they should have given the show to Craig Charles and kept Shaun Kearney on 6Music.

I can't stand Vernon on the radio. He's more irritating than Steve Wright.

An extra hour of Sara Cox is welcome too Wink

I love Craig Charles Saturday night 6 Music show sooooo much, but Shaun Keveaney's daytime show was just brilliant, Charles doesn't quite match up.

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 14:50

JV sounds like an imbecile. He is so ignorant but thinks he is intelligent.

I’m personally gutted, I love his show.

Me too! 😩 I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with his presenting style e.g. I don't care for the fake applause before interviews, and it does my head in when he repeats things a lot, but his voice and the show generally are very evocative for me. I'm in my fifties now and used to listen to his Radio 1 show in the summer holidays when I was at school/uni, and the fact that the format hasn't changed much since then means that his show, and the sound of his voice, evoke a lot of happy memories of simpler times. I tend to like most of the music he plays too, and although he's a bit irritating when he does Serious Jockin' he plays a lot of songs I love in that segment. Hope the Beeb puts some old show excerpts up somewhere after he finishes.

dejacqueray · 02/07/2022 17:39

Can't stand SW - he's been a Radio 2 22 years too long. God knows how he ever made it past his first show he's so amateurish. Can we get rid of Jeremy Vine next please and swap Zoe and Sara over?

Topazmumma · 02/07/2022 18:20

IGotItInTheSales · 01/07/2022 16:58

to be replaced with what though?

Scott Mills from Radio 1, he and Chris Stark have just announced they are leaving and he is taking over

GBErrors · 02/07/2022 18:21

Years ago when I was 18 I had a summer job in the dodgy café at our local airport. Steve came in with his gang - I think they were heading to a BBC roadshow. There were about 15 of them, all picking up different things and being awkward and I was frantically trying to run everything through the till and keep track of what they were ordering (the boss was a tyrant and would know if a packet of crisps had gone missing) whilst being a bit in awe that STEVE WRIGHT was at the till.

The star struck moment quickly vanished when he said ‘you’re not doing a very good job are you?’ Ever since then I’ve thought he was a bit of dick.

I’m the same. I’m 49 and have been listening to Steve since I was a teen. I know he’s cheesy, hasn’t changed his format and it does peoples heads in but for me it’s such a comforting, familiar routine. I just love it on in the background. He is annoying at times but most of his music is from my youth, I love Janey and Tim and their ‘Factoids’. And the ‘Golden Oldies’ are always songs, again, from my younger years. I’ll personally be turning off after Ken Bruce as Jeremy is depressing AF and if Scott Mill’s standing in for Ken Bruce is anything to go by then no thanks, I wish they had chosen Vernon or Gary for the slot if Steve really had to go.

nothingfound · 02/07/2022 18:49

So pleased to hear this. His show is outdated and the things I can never forgive him for is singing over music and cutting songs short.

FairytaleOfLancashire · 02/07/2022 18:50

Thank fuck for that. What a load of banal drivel he and his team come out with.
Just play a fucking record, noone cares about your thoughts on fucking ANYTHING you set of massive fucking BORING bellends

siucra · 02/07/2022 18:53

I met some BBC producers once on a course and they told me that Steve Wright was horrible to work with. And the Serious Jockin' slot is dreadful... he's been phoning it in for years. I too have happy memories of him on Radio 1 in the afternoons but it's the format which is irritating, and the team members. Sarah Cox sounds bored as well whenever I hear her.

VickerishAllsort · 02/07/2022 19:03

Huge sigh of relief here too.
The upside of having him on R2 is that I discovered Nihal on 5live, and love him, so I can't see me going back to R2 any time soon.

grandageorge · 02/07/2022 19:04
  1. It's not a show. Nothing to see.
  2. Non-stop oldies full of chat, bbc ads and him singing.
  3. Jockin' - wtf
  4. Ask Elvis was the last good thing on the broadcast.
MinglingFlamingo · 02/07/2022 19:18

Just heard this news

I quite like it when Richard Bacon covered SW. not keen on Sara Cox, I don't like her too for school attitude she has.

Will SW still do love songs on a Sunday???

sequin2000 · 02/07/2022 19:39

That's made my night. Serious jockin gives me the rage. I thought I could just change the station on a Friday but he talks about it every day 😩 I really like Sarah Cox. Is it just me who hates love letter dedications on the radio? Who enjoys listening to these??

Fizbosshoes · 02/07/2022 19:54

JV sounds like an imbecile. He is so ignorant but thinks he is intelligent.

He finds a (non) story in the paper and then tries to shoehorn it in to the show and make a phone in about it. recent one that springs to mind was a tortoise that went missing and turned up somewhere else....obviously a quite niche and slightly boring story, about 3 people phoned in with tenuous similar stories 🙄
Or he does things that are visual jokes/experiments and then describes (poorly) what is happening. I'm always shouting "this doesn't work on the radio!!!"

MinglingFlamingo · 02/07/2022 19:59

The noise that introduces serious jockin' gives me a migraine. I have to switch over if driving
