It’s finally happened - Steve Wright in the Afternoon is going

He’s just announced it!!

Ironically, it was Scott Mills appearing on Radio 1 that drove me to Radio 2 in the first place.

I am now listening to Radio Cornwall in the afternoons instead. I never thought I'd see the day...

It's worth listening to her on Fi and Jane's Fortunately podcast. I think she is a bit maverick for the BBC and wouldn't necessarily toe the line in a different slot. She said the day the BBC makes her play Toto's Africa, is the day she leaves or something like that.

I ve listened to radio 2 for years but have finally had to give up and try and find a different station, not sure which one yet. I loved Steve Wright and pretty much have grown up with him, his shows were never boring. I ve really loved listening to Vernon Kaye when he’s been on, its been like having a friend in the room and he played good music, I d still be listening if he’d got the afternoon slot. I ve tried listening to Scott Mills and giving him a chance but it’s mind numbingly boring sadly so I m jumping ship. The radio 2 downfall started sadly when they got rid of Simon Mayo, although I do love Sara Cox and she’s done a great job since she took over. Maybe I just need to head to Spotify and listen to advert free music because that’s what puts me off the commercial radios

I'm another one who has turned off Radio 2. Scott Mills is unlistenable. I grew up with Steve Wright and part of his appeal was nostalgia, and his music was good. Big mistake by the Head of Radio 2.

Sadly radio 2 changes are not for rhe better..gone over to local but heard changes are coming to that too.

i was not a huge fan of steve wright until he went, now i miss him, i miss the music,
not enjoying scott mills music selection at all.

I think Steve’s show was always a feel good, positive show.They never strayed into politics or bad news. With the others-Tim and Janey, it felt like you were spending the afternoon with good company.

We're enjoying Scott Mills. It was great to have a Friday afternoon without serious jockin!

I agree and am so much happier with Scott then Sara instead of insufferable Steve Wright serious jockin and singing over all of the songs.

I'm 35 though so maybe the audience they're trying to target?

Podcasts @MrsLargeEmbodied . I’m at work until 3.30 and used to enjoy SW on my drive home and then at home. I now listen to podcasts of all sorts so I’m either laughing or learning something.

I’ve heard it might be Rylan! Much as I like Rylan, he doesn’t have the requisite gravitas to replace Ken.
But maybe no one does......

I don't think Rylan will do it, way too early in the morning for him - plus he also has the Strictly gig in the autumn a few nights per week. Vernon gets my vote, he's been covering for Zoe the past couple of mornings and is brill - can't take him on telly at all but weirdly I like him on the radio!!!

Might be Rylan to replace Ken, he was hinting at something on his show on Saturday. If so then a double whammy, I’ll listen to Ken on GHR and have to put up with the adverts and then will miss Rylan on Saturday as can’t see him keeping that on if doing Ken’s slot Monday to Friday.

Gawd Radio 2 has gone to the dogs! Scott Mills really is rubbish. Can’t believe he’s the best they can do. Have defected to Virgin now.
