He’s just announced it!!

Firm no to Gary Davies. He's awful.

ChatSamosa · 01/02/2023 22:25

Really wish Liza Tarbuck did more

Florenz · 01/02/2023 22:37

They aren't going to replace Ken Bruce with a 65 year old Gary Davies. The purpose of it is to attract a younger audience.

Riverlee · 02/02/2023 01:03

@Florenz Gary Davies is 65?! Must admit, thought he was younger, mid-late 50s. He’s aged well.

Makescme feel old. Used to love ‘Bits n Pieces’ on Radio 1 when you had to guess the music. Maybe if Popmaster is going, they could revive this.(was useless at it),

billysboy · 02/02/2023 07:12

Scott mills is working out ok in the afternoon

need someone younger than Gary Davies

sandgrown · 02/02/2023 07:20

I am the older demographic of radio 2 but struggling to find another station without commercials or just talk . Really hope Rylan does not get the morning slot and struggling to listen to Scott Mills in the afternoon. I miss Paul o Grady on Sunday too. The station has lost its’ way .

I'm another one who has turned off Radio 2. Scott Mills is unlistenable. I grew up with Steve Wright and part of his appeal was nostalgia, and his music was good. Big mistake by the Head of Radio 2.

I agree.

Londonnight · 02/02/2023 07:38

With Ken Bruce now going that is the end of radio 2 for me. I like GHR, though the ads drive me mad, it is better than radio 2 now. Not sure how Ken will cope with having to do ads though when he has spent most of his life with the BBC.

Radio 2 has totally lost it's way. It hasn't taken on board the most of the younger generation it is trying to attract don't listen to the radio!

AnotherNameChangeYes · 02/02/2023 07:42

Bloody love Scott Mills.

Riverlee · 02/02/2023 13:32

Must admit, Scott Mills is growing on me. I actually listen to Radio 2 in the afternoon, instead of putting a cd on (my car is that old), apart from I liked the oldies. Slowly getting used to the change in music direction, although feel they do need to play a bit more of the older stuff.

ilije Rylan’s Saturday programme but feel he would be wrong for the morning programme.

OJ Borg for me, or even Dermot.

Maybe rathe4 than having one Di they could have a couple - one do8ngtwo days and another three.

An outside vote for me would be Jenny Falconer who does Smooth radio breakfast programme. She has a nice gentle air about her and would suit the slot.

Benjispruce4 · 02/02/2023 18:42

Rylan and Scott are talentless in my opinion. Quite like OJ and Dermott. They actually have a bit of intellect.

Audience figures don't matter to the BBC, they have a remit for each station so they need to make sure the listeners are the correct age. It's the same as Radio 1 in the mid 90s when they willingly drove away listeners by axing all the old DJs that had been there since the 70s and replaced them with Chris Evans, Zoe Ball, Mark and Lard etc.

Florenz · 02/02/2023 18:48

The BBC really needs to have a 3rd radio station for popular music to appeal to those too old for the new Radio 2.

megletthesecond · 02/02/2023 21:30

I think radio 1 are aiming to increase their target listener age. They've started a noughties slot and lots of tracks from twenty years ago are dotted around, often listeners choices. I'm sure it wasn't like this a year or two ago.

Florenz · 02/02/2023 22:12

I'm not sure. Young people nowadays listen to more old music than any previous generation of young people have since the advent of recorded popular music.

Gooseysgirl · 02/02/2023 22:25

Oooo yes I forgot about OJ! He had young kids... he might be tempted by a move to daytime radio instead of the graveyard slot

BogRollBOGOF · 02/02/2023 23:27

Since Ken's announcement I've been dabbling with commercial radio, and as annoying as adverts are, they aren't more annoying than the likes of Scott Mills and constant plugs for BBC Sounds/ other shows.

Too much gratutitous, tedious new music. I like some new music, if it fits the range of pop on Radio 2 (enjoying Sam Ryder & Harry Styles), but there's too much repetitive crap on there for the sake of being new.

They've lost this 40 year old. Funny, I though I was who they were attempting to chase after.

I'll be doing my best to follow Ken.
Bye Radio 2.

whitesnowflake · 05/02/2023 14:52

Since Ken's announcement, that's it for me with R2. Ken and Gambo are my 2 favourite shows. That's Ken going, it feels like a matter of time for Gambo. Is there any word on who will be taking over Kens slot? I've tried to listen to Scott Mills on the drive home from work but it's not for me. I've switched to Virgin on the commute to and from work and then GHR when I'm at home. I can't get GHR in the car but hopefully coverage will improve. I've really enjoyed discovering Chris Evans, Graham Norton and Simon Mayo again. I've also enjoyed Ricky Wilson on the way home this week. Looking forward to listening to Ken on GHR too. I'm not missing R2 at all.

Crumpetdisappointment · 05/02/2023 15:09

Virgin and GHR are internet and my car is old school.
i have radio 4 now in my car,
in my kitchen i also have an old style radio.

i occasionally listen to r scott mills but dont like him or his music, although rylan has grown on me!
i miss graham norton on saturday mornings but again i could tune in via laptop but they have lost me to radio 4 saturdays now

Benjispruce4 · 05/02/2023 16:39

Me @whitesnowflake but can’t get Virgin in my car. Must download the app. Always listened to Chris on R2 and though he can be annoying he’s mainly entertaining and the rest of the team are so much better than Zoe Ball’s lot. I’ve always love Graham and now he’s on twice at the weekend. The sponsorship model is so much better than ads.

Florenz · 05/02/2023 21:59

Isn't GHR on FM nationally nowadays? It took over our local station so I guess there must be some areas where that didn't happen.

Crumpetdisappointment · 06/02/2023 07:33

oh i will search thanks
