He’s just announced it!!

OP posts:
PritiPatelsMaker · 02/07/2022 20:11

Is it just me who hates love letter dedications on the radio? Who enjoys listening to these??

Definitely not just you.

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 02/07/2022 20:44

Not a massive SW show fan but I don’t really like Scott Mills either. Would much prefer Vernon! I’ve been enjoying him in the mornings this week.

PritiPatelsMaker · 02/07/2022 20:47

He has survived this long because he knows where the bodies are buried. IMO

Not just your opinion. I've been saying it for years.

That's made my night. Serious jockin gives me the rage. I thought I could just change the station on a Friday but he talks about it every day 😩 I really like Sarah Cox. Is it just me who hates love letter dedications on the radio? Who enjoys listening to these??

Am with you! Serious jockin (no g) gives me the rage too and he starts talking about it at 2.05 on Monday....

I'm not a fan of show tunes but I also think that Elaine's show has a dedicated audience and to take that away from them for another mainstream show would be a shame.

I agree with this.

It's not my thing, but there is certainly an audience for it.

JustBeKinder · 02/07/2022 21:11

Have loved listening to Steve over the years, would love Vernon to take over though

user1493559472 · 02/07/2022 21:14

Steve Wright voice irritates me. I listen to Virgin radio on the weekend mornings as not a fan of claudia or Steve on the weekends.
Vernon has been brilliant on the breakfast show this last week, he needs his own regular slot!!

MeAndMyKatzen · 02/07/2022 21:25

Oh well, never mind. That said, I'm not a fan of Scott Mills either. Good luck to them both, but I'm glad I work in the afternoons.

Linz13 · 02/07/2022 22:13

It’s about time! I don’t like Scott Mills though, sounds a bit too wooden to me. Vernon Kay gets my vote

LoisLane66 · 02/07/2022 23:08

I dislike all female radio presenters - Cox, Feltz, Tarbuck, Ball, Nightingale (as was) et al.
Too yappy and... nah. They get on my nerves.
I did like Steve Wright but not the silly Serious Jockin'. What a daft idea.
I've never heard of his replacement so won't be tuning in.
I don't listen to the radio much anyway so not missing out.

LoisLane66 · 02/07/2022 23:09

...and Vernon Kay is awful (as is his wife)

Lovely13 · 02/07/2022 23:41

I’d have crowdfunded the 400k fee he gets off radio2 show to get him off radio. Awful man. The old woman In his stupid zoo. Misogynist from the 70s. Needed binning off years ago. His love songs on Sunday. is hideous. Instant switch to other stations

MarchingOn · 03/07/2022 00:05

I think Steve Wright was great back in the day but I agree that his singing over songs (I remember when Elton John''s 'Sacrifice' was played, he always sang harmonies over it), and Serious Jockin' are beyond irritating.

I do find Scott Mills on Popmaster difficult to listen to. If they ever try to replace the delight that is Ken Bruce, that will be the deal-breaker for me.

Zoe Ball's constant use of the word 'tellybox' makes me want to scream and her interview technique is atrocious. Instead of asking a guest "how did that make you feel?" she'll ask a barrage of "Were you expecting that? Did it make you feel happy? Or did you feel overwhelmed?' I know I wouldn't have even been able to think" sort of stuff. Grrr.

Apart from the warmth, professionalism and general awesomeness of Ken, I love OJ, Johnnie Walker, Vernon and Craig Charles.

Lisa Tarbuck, no way. I remember her covering for Ken one Good Friday years ago. She talked over the intro to the first ever radio play of Paul Weller's new song, then interrupted it half way through to blather on about which of her Easter eggs she'd be eating first on the Sunday. She's so much funnier in her own mind.

Oh, and I love Tony Blackburn and Rylan.

sjpkgp1 · 03/07/2022 00:07

This is the best news I have heard in a while. Hopefully he will be Seriously Fu*ckoffin.

ginandbearit · 03/07/2022 05:19

Glad he's going too, and his Sunday slot is just too much schmaltz...and hell.if you're going through a break up ! ( I know other stations are available) ...saw him interviewed about leaving and the contrast between his youthful appearance and today is striking..I dont think he looked well .

billysboy · 03/07/2022 08:16

Be great if they tried out some fresher / unknown talent rather than the overpaid lot

If I were in charge I would insist the DJ was the sole person on the show ie no hangers on and didnt just ask people to phone in if they were short of material

I think that is fairly true of bbc across the board with breakfast presenters on massive salaries and presenters such as Gary Linneker but thats a whole other conversation

Be glad to see the back of SW , next stop Jeremey Vine

FatOaf · 03/07/2022 09:26

Why are people going on about the music played on these shows? The presenters don't choose the music: the producer does. The presenters choose to talk over it, though. Every presenter on Radio 2 ever has done this.

dubyalass · 01/07/2022 23:00

I still mourn the loss of Simon Mayo's Drive time too. Whoever decided to force talent vacuum Jo 'clang! Just dropped another name!' Whiley on the show needed their bumps felt.

He’s on Greatest hits radio on digital if you’ve got it, at teatime. Roughly the same format too.

Carrick27 · 03/07/2022 10:18

Can’t SW take Zoe ‘gorgeous girl’ Ball with him? As for Liza Tarbuck….I switch off as soon as Rylan is finished as I can’t bear her idiotic chatter.

Sirlancealot · 03/07/2022 10:29

Scott Mills, is as enteraining as a plank of wood. Will now switch off from the end of Ken Bruce until Jo Wileys show.

Gooseysgirl · 03/07/2022 15:08

I've noticed that whether I'm irritated by someone or not depends on what time of day they are on! I love Jo in her late evening slot whereas when she was teamed up briefly with SM for drive time I couldn't listen at all - it hurt my ears 😆Similar with Vern.. he is brilliant in the mornings and I would take him over Zoe any day, infinitely better at interviewing guests and seems far more comfortable in the roll.. but whenever he's been in for SW he's been awful! I'm going to keep an open mind about SM, in the hopes that he ditches the hangers-on and revamps the show completely - goodbye factoids, serious jockin etc 🥳 Claudia way better in an evening slot than Sat mornings - we followed GN to Virgin.

Riverlee · 03/07/2022 15:43

i agree that Jo suits a late evening slot better than the drive time slot.

i tried listening to Virgin. Got fed up fairly quickly as all they seemed to do was promote Chris Evan’s show.

Straight from Rylan to 6Music here Wink

DontLikeCoffee · 02/07/2022 12:46

I listen to JV but his way of asking people stupid questions irritates the fuck out of me.

It's that 'soft' voice when he's talking to someone about a tragedy.

He sounds so fake!!

Benjispruce4 · 04/07/2022 17:44

@Nanny0gg Yes! I hate that too!
