He’s just announced it!!

I don't think having Radio 1 and Radio 2 and expecting them to appeal to everyone really works anymore. If Radio 1 is aimed at 25 and under, I don't see how you can have a Radio 2 that appeals to all ages from 25 and over. Although I guess GHR is appealing to the 50+ audience but they have to pay the license fee too.

Benjispruce4 · 31/10/2022 18:33

Ooh I’ll try Simon Mayo thanks. Always liked him. I agree about advertising but also agree that BBC advertise themselves a lot too.

Benjispruce4 · 31/10/2022 18:37

I don’t t get why they chose Scott Mills. I loved Steve Wright but also get that he had been there a long time. I prefer some of the stand -ins to SM.

YorkieTheRabbit · 31/10/2022 18:38

Who the chuff decided to dump Scott Mills on Radio 2, what the hell of us listeners done to deserve this shed load of shit?
Plus an extra hour of Sarah, ladies and gentlemen and everybody in between, Cox
I now have to find another radio station to listen to. Thanks BBC

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 18:43

yes i was listening to sara cox on my way home
people have to answer the phone in a certain way
how very radio 1 i thought!

Septemberintherain · 31/10/2022 19:11

50 in 4 months time so I’m just sliding in ready. I’ve obviously become too old for Radio 2 now haha!

megletthesecond · 31/10/2022 19:20

Flo there is probably a market for an older bbc radio station. 50-60yrs +.

Unlike me who at 48 is sticking with radio 1 as I love the new DJ's as they take over and grow up.

ManefesationofConciousness · 31/10/2022 19:21

At least its not Vernon Kaye- the intelligence of a slug and the personality of the wet lettuce it sits on

On the 100th birthday of the BBC we had Vernon Kaye and Tina Daheley- the founders must have been trying to rise from the ground. How low can you go?

There is one for the 'boomer' generation (hate that word), strangely enough called 'Boom Radio'

It's mostly aimed at those of us who remember the 60s and 70s, with the occasional foray into the 80s and further.

Between that and Greatest Hits Radio, I'm quite happy as they both have DJs who I've always liked.

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2022 19:37

I like Vernon Kaye and Sara Cox. You can't please everybody.

There are people wanting Steve Wright back for example. I can't bear him and am glad he's gone but some people adore him.

Not heard Scott yet and won't until my day off on Thurs. I'm reserving judgement.

mrswhiplington · 31/10/2022 19:52

I'm 61 but I enjoy listening to all sorts of music, not just old people's. Love lots of the newer artists. Just can't stand some of the brainless chatter from some of the DJs. Yes, Steve Wright could be annoying sometimes but he also made me laugh. Ken Bruce makes me laugh as well. Radio shouldn't just be about the music otherwise I might as well just put my own playlist on.

Florenz · 31/10/2022 20:04

I miss Mark & Lard.

megletthesecond · 31/10/2022 20:40

They were SO smutty. I remember going out for meetings with my boss and we'd be disintegrating with laughter.

Florenz · 31/10/2022 20:04

I miss Mark & Lard.

Me too.

There is a need!

Florenz · 31/10/2022 20:04

I miss Mark & Lard.

And me! They were hilarious.

Can’t stand Scott Mills. His voice is extremely unappealing.
Think I’ll switch to Radio 4 for the Archers at 2.

Gooseysgirl · 10/11/2022 07:35

I could occasionally tolerate SW, but Scott is awful. I like Sara but three hours is too much!!

Benjispruce4 · 10/11/2022 07:53

I’ve Meade the switch to Virgin for breakfast as used to like Chris Evans on radio 2. Stayed on as liked Steve and couldn’t be bothered to keep retuning. But now Graham Norton is there too and we have no Steve either I’ve done it. It’s sooo much better, music is more varied too and I don’t really notice the ads.

Buckland123 · 10/11/2022 07:57

I really hate Zoe Ball. Sure she’s a lovely person & all that but her sycophantic manner (especially when the queen died) makes me boil with rage. And she plays crap music.
not a fan of Scott Mills so far - he’s boring and he sounds disinterested. Like Sara Cox but also agree 3 hours is an hour too many! Bring back Steve - I miss him singing along to Joel Correy!

Nickinoo30 · 10/11/2022 08:04

Im not enjoying Scott either - Steve Wright sounded much more upbeat/lively which is what I need when I’m flagging at work in the afternoon. The birthday game (probably irrationally) annoys me!

I do however like Sarah Cox. 😁

Anjelika · 10/11/2022 11:45

Scott really sounds like he is trying but failing to enjoy it. His voice is so dull and everything he says sounds forced. I wasn't the biggest fan of Steve Wright but at least he sounded natural. I'm so glad it's Sara Cox when I'm driving home at 4.30 and not Scott.

Shrewsbury247 · 10/11/2022 12:25

I loved Steve in the afternoon, really miss him

Septemberintherain · 10/11/2022 12:30

I’ve listened to radio 2 since I was a small child and my mum would listen to lovely Terry Wogan. I’ve given up since Steve went, I know he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it was a lighthearted fun slot which got me through through the afternoons. I’ve tried giving Scott a go but no, just no. I do still listen to Ken in the mornings and Rylan on a Saturday but the rest of Radio 2 is now just absolute bag of shite.

LiveshipParagon · 10/11/2022 13:35

Scott Mills is bloody awful, always has been. I have no idea why he's still employed for radio 😬 Maybe they're hoping to get someone actually good, and are having trouble finalising details, in which case Mills is a temporary stand-in... <crosses fingers>

HalfWower · 10/11/2022 14:11

I'm amazed Liza Tarbuck doesn't do more stuff.

Gooseysgirl · 10/11/2022 17:36

Yes we love Liza, we also really loved Paul O'Grady and have stopped listening on Sundays now he's gone. Beckett needs to stick to what he does best... parenting hell podcast and standup. He's dreadful on the radio.
