"If Johnson faces a confidence vote this month, he should not take any victory as vindication.

The ideas and the talent are available within Tory ranks to reboot the government. "

But I agree with this (minus Boris). There are some talented committed MPs out there.

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2022 16:16

I do genuinely believe Seb Payne has been trawling MN mind. A lot of those things sound like MN threads, along with an attraction to Radio 4...

But they can't undo the lying.

Kemi Badenoch is vile.

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2022 16:18

She reads the FT weekend hey? Shameless, and unlikely, self promotion!

That's me out. Clearly doesn't think my vote is worth fighting for, and I think there's a lot more in my demographic- Tesco, Sainsburys, Aldi, hate commuting, live within walking distance of work(environment), outside of London with a household income of under £25000- than shop at waitress.

It just shows how out of touch they are.

Peregrina · 02/06/2022 16:55

I shop at Waitrose, but I am not a Tory anyway.

The only thing I could agree with fully was bringing Julian Smith back to NI. That won't happen; we can't have someone competent in the job.

I've been quite amused by Johnson's supporters calling the "rebel" MPs "self-indulgent, narcissistic and contemptuous" in today's Times.

Do they think we forgotten their similarly narcissistic power grabbing manoeuvres against Theresa May?

Do they think they are in a position to lecture anyone about loyalty to party or to country?

Absolute shower the lot of them.

"Contemptuous" is another interesting adjective in light of the sheer contempt for the electorate demonstrated by a government that chooses not to obey its own laws when they get in the way of partying.

Rees Mogg is saying removing Johnson will be exceptional silly and a risk to 'brexit opportunities'

Seems like yet another excellent reason for getting rid of him. It's instructive that RM can't tell us what those opportunities might be.

DuncinToffee · 02/06/2022 13:35

Yes, very plausible, uhmmmm

Here we are — crates of prosecco arriving at the Cabinet Office this afternoon

UPDATE: Cabinet office say an order was mistakenly placed for delivery to Cabinet Office instead of another non-government address.

Prosecco "being taken offsite and will not be consumed on the premises"

twitter.com/LouisDegenhardt/status/1532030938301050881?t=2JmY9luaRomlXbWrW3CEpQ&s=19

Translates as: someone from no. 10 (and probably from the PM's flat) ordered the Prosecco but forgot to tell the suppliers to deliver round the back.

AmaryIlis · 02/06/2022 17:51

Do they really think Waitrose woman is going to come back to the fold by dint of promoting a few more token women to the cabinet? Given how bloody embarrassing the likes of Patel, Braverman and Dorries are?

The Prime Minister has attended Trooping the Colour, looking a mess as usual. A man who should be in the Tower for the way he has behaved towards The Queen.

I thought he and Carrie looked great actually

Roussette · 03/06/2022 09:40

Johnson looked as unkempt as he always does. His hair messy, his suit I'll fitting but hey that's how he likes to portray himself to his fanbase, man of the people I s'pise
Carrie looked slim and stylish.

Notonthestairs · 03/06/2022 09:44

Tory donor was knighted yesterday (£240000 to Conservatives - also donated £75,000 to Labour and £45000 to LD so some hedging of bets there).

And Charles Roxburgh - second permanent secretary at the Treasury - 9 phone calls to Greensill, retiring shortly.

Jeremy Wright also received one! - bet they are irritated by that now.

I don't imagine Labour were much better. I wonder if there are stats somewhere revealing how many party donors have been knighted and how much they paid to get it.

birthday - on the face of it Partygate could be dismissed.

However, it has served to highlight the lengths Johnson will go to mislead the public & the barefaced lies he's willing to tell to Parliament - at a time where the vast majority of the country were just trying to do their best in pretty awful circumstances.

It's also shine a light on Cabinet failings and that a large section of MPs won't stand against poor leadership.

And it's part of a long list of corrupt dealings which diminishes us all.

Exactly that. Johnson has destroyed public confidence in politics, the police and the civil service. He’s unwittingly become an anarchist taking an axe to the stability of our society. Fortunately he’s also making his party unelectable, every cloud and all that.

DuncinToffee · 03/06/2022 10:00

Paul Scully is busy salivating over imperial measures and crowns on glasses, the Chair of Asda (and a Tory) is less than impressed

"I've never heard such nonsense in my life... & we're now saying let's go backwards... we're doing it to please a small minority of people who harp for the past... nonsense"

DuncinToffee · 03/06/2022 10:18

I wouldn't say that looking less messy is looking great, but I guess we all see it differently Wink

Article in The Telegraph - head of Grassroots Conservatives says Johnson should resign before being booted out.
Also criticising NI increase.

A mixed reaction from the crowd when Boris Johnson arrives at St. Paul's Cathedral.
