How many times a day do you change your clothes?

Not counting getting out of your PJs in the morning and back into them at night .....

Yesterday was pretty typical for me - a very active retired woman in late 60's with dog and horse to care for. Dressed in scruffy jeans/top/boots for dog walking (we live in a rural location), then (change 1) changed into clean jeans/top/nicer boots for trip to Sainos and meet friend for a quick coffee, (change 2) early pm back into scruffy stuff for dog walk 2, (change 3) changed into riding breeches and fleece for looking after/riding horse, (change 4) out of horse stuff, shower and into leggings and baggy top for evening meal/slop about watching a movie with DH, then back into PJs for bed.

It seems I'm a serial clothes changer. Can anyone relate?

Get up, get dressed for work. If working from home I stay in those clothes until bedtime. If working from the office I might change into jogging bottoms or something when I get in, sometimes I just change straight into pyjamas at 6:30pm when DD does.

steppemum · 27/05/2022 19:36

If I were you, I'd just change shoes for dog walk....it's not cold or wet, why do you need a change of clothes from dog walk to Sainsburys?

because

  1. I walk briskly, so my T-shirt form walking dog is pretty sweaty, and I wouldn't inflict that on other people

  2. dog slobby, other peoples dogs muddy paws, the fox poo my dog might choose to roll in, the wet dew on the bushes/grass, the grass stains from pushing past a bush to haul deardog out, the mud from the woods, the stains from the tree trunk where I sit while deardog watched squirrels etc

mean that it is easier to have a pair of old jeans and Tshirt that are only worn for the dog walk, and then change into normal clothes when I get home.
dog clothes are worn all week though.

MyneighbourisTotoro · 27/05/2022 19:38

I can’t relate at all, I wake up, get dressed and get on with my day.
In the evening I get in my pjs and chill until bedtime

MyneighbourisTotoro · 27/05/2022 19:41

I will add somedays I will Thorpe on some jogging bottoms once I know I’m home for the rest of the day so I’m not sitting in a skirt or jeans for the rest of the afternoon/evening.

Snowiscold · 27/05/2022 19:42

I don’t relate, but then I don’t have a horse or dog. I get dressed in the morning and I stay like that until bedtime.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 27/05/2022 19:51

No changes here - but I wear quite casual comfortable clothes for work, and don't have a dog or horse. If I work out, though, i will change into sports clothes

cottagegardenflower · 27/05/2022 19:56

Once a day. If I had to look after smelly horses and dogs, I would wear scruffy old clothes for that and change into fresh ones.

Jules912 · 27/05/2022 20:10

Once a day unless I go to the gym/a run, then I'll change into my gym clothes and shower and change back to what I was wearing after.
Maybe twice if I'm going out out in the evening but don't do that often.

I change my clothes about 5 times a day depending on what activity i'm doing. I also shower 3 times a day. I thought everyone did this to be honest.

Of course you don’t really think everyone showers 3 times a day. Don’t be so bloody ridiculous 😂

CharlotteSt · 27/05/2022 20:25

Normally one outfit a day during the working week but today I dressed for work, then had afternoon off after a medical appointment so put a sundress on to sit n the garden. Have just changed into something warmer to go to the pub.

A hot weekend day will see more changes than Madonna as I change into progressively cooler outfits 😎

MiaGain · 27/05/2022 20:47

For the non-animal owning folks .... dogs can be walked in any old/scruffy outfit you have to hand which is season/weather appropriate. Add waterproof jacket/wellies if needed.

Horses are a different thing all together. Can't ride in jeans ... uncomfortable and can damage your (very expensive) saddle, so has to be properly designed riding breeches, and long boots with a low heel (to prevent your foot sliding through stirrups - extremely dangerous) hence the change for horse duties.

Fascinating insights into people's life styles here ...... Smile

One outfit a day from 9am to midnight.

Only time I’d change would be into a swimming costume.

Unless I am going somewhere smart I live in my horsey clothes all day unless its really hot and I need to wear something cooler. I do however shower and change into PJs fairly early evening once horses are done.

This. I will 100% wear horsey clothes to meet friends for lunch/coffee.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2022 21:25

My 8yo DS rides horses. He wears the horse gear all day, no change of clothes.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 27/05/2022 21:26

I occasionally say Sainos, and now I'm going to say it all the time. Never thought other people could be so sensitive as to vomit at the thought of a nickname for a supermarket...
For me, generally two sets of clothes, three times getting dressed. Up, dog walk, work stuff, dog walk again, bed.

Twillow · 27/05/2022 21:30

I get dressed and those are my clothes for the day! If I'm in work clothes, ditto - they stay on until bedtime.

Blimey l wouldn't have time for this!

Surely you must know that most people actually don't do this??

bigTillyMint · 27/05/2022 21:49

Normal day I don’t change at all. Obvs if I’m going to the gym I change, and if I’m going out out I change. HTH.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 27/05/2022 21:51

2 at most. That's pjs to normal clothes then back to pjs. If I'm working it's pjs to work clothes to pjs. I dont get changed after work into normal clothes, I get straight into pjs. My work wear can be covered in mud, water, blood. If it's blood I definitely remove it 😬

shiningstar2 · 27/05/2022 21:53

One wakes in pyjamas or silk night gown depending on whether one has invited significant other into one's room overnight. Staff brings one tea in bed then one dresses for the day. If off duty one dresses in jodpurs and heads for the stables with some dog walking also on the agenda. Change for lunch and these days one remains in these clothes for tea. Always, always change for dinner. Not as formal as yesteryear but one could not insult friends or loved ones by appearing for dinner in the same clothes one has worn all afternoon. Of course one must expect far more changes of clothes on days when one is on duty.

fairydustandsparkle · 27/05/2022 22:15

I wouldn’t consider my lifestyle to be as active as yours but I still change clothes several times a day.

A typical day pre pandemic would be pjs - shower - dressed into work clothes (job 1) - then changed into uniform (job 2) - then normal outfit if a Friday and going out with work friends or loungewear if going straight home - shower - pjs.

Now I wfh it’s more like get up - shower - comfy work clothes (leggings/jumper) - maybe jeans if I go out at lunch - back into comfy work clothes - gym clothes for a home workout - pjs for bed.

But I don’t wash clothes unnecessarily unless its gym gear or they’re visibly soiled.

Work2live · 27/05/2022 22:25

I was thinking about this the other day. Since starting WFH permanently and getting a dog I change my clothes a LOT.

This morning I got dressed in a sweatshirt and joggers to work at my desk. I got changed into old leggings and a fleece at lunchtime to take the dog out.

Later on I changed into a sports bra and different top for a workout.

Then I got showered and changed again to go out for a meal with a friend!

Now I’m in my PJs 😁

etulosba · 27/05/2022 22:30

Never, unless I am going out in the evening.

RuthW · 27/05/2022 22:36

One set of clothes every morning for work or st the weekend.

Another set of clothes Saturday night for a dance.

Basically maximum 8 outfits per week.

Age, mid 50s if that makes a difference.
