How many times a day do you change your clothes?

Not counting getting out of your PJs in the morning and back into them at night .....

Yesterday was pretty typical for me - a very active retired woman in late 60's with dog and horse to care for. Dressed in scruffy jeans/top/boots for dog walking (we live in a rural location), then (change 1) changed into clean jeans/top/nicer boots for trip to Sainos and meet friend for a quick coffee, (change 2) early pm back into scruffy stuff for dog walk 2, (change 3) changed into riding breeches and fleece for looking after/riding horse, (change 4) out of horse stuff, shower and into leggings and baggy top for evening meal/slop about watching a movie with DH, then back into PJs for bed.

It seems I'm a serial clothes changer. Can anyone relate?

Today; pj's, jeans and hoodie to walk dd to school, shorts and hoodie to walk to supermarket, gym shorts and top for garden workout, track pants when eating and tidying. Now I'm in a bikini in the garden.

Up to five: for running, yoga, working/majority of the day, then something smarter if I’m going out and potentially ending up in something looser for flopping around before bed. Of those though, probably only the running and “most of the day” outfits would get put in the wash after one wear.

OdeToSadDisco · 27/05/2022 14:53

More often than not I WFH in gym wear then go to gym at lunchtime.

Change into slightly more presentable casual outfit (jeans and top/jumpsuit/dress) for school run and any other afternoon activities.

Something a bit smarter if going out in the evening.

So 1-3 outfits a day depending whether I'm going to the gym or out in the evening.

I'm begging you, please tell me that you aren't calling Sainsbury's 'Sainos'. If you are, you have to stop it. Immediately

I couldn't get past this bit eitherGrin

MirandaWest · 27/05/2022 14:54

Depends whether I go for a run or not.

If I do then I put on running clothes when I get up and run. Then come back and shower and put on an ordinary outfit.

If I don’t go for a run then I stay in the same outfit all day.

HorribleHerstory · 27/05/2022 14:55

I don’t change quite as often as you but I’m not surprised at your changes. I can understand in theory how people could wear just one outfit for a whole day but it doesn’t work out that way here.

A very normal day here would be workwear to go to work, come home and change into activewear and go for a run, come home and change into a nice outfit to go out in the evening. Or on a non work day, get up and change into active/hiking/cycle etc wear, go and do the activity for the day, come home muddy, wash and change into day home wear because it’s still only mid afternoon, then into nightwear later. DH comes home covered in muck and strips in the hallway on the way in and changes into regular clothes.

I often change shoes for an activity which then means I have to change legwear which then means I often end up with a full outfit change because you can’t really just pop your running shoes on with your tights and dress and go for a run.

the dc change out of school shirts and blazers when they get home too and I don’t blame them

DenholmElliot1 · 27/05/2022 14:31

I change my clothes about 5 times a day depending on what activity i'm doing. I also shower 3 times a day. I thought everyone did this to be honest.

Most people won’t be able to keep changing, because most people would be working for the majority of the day.

ilovesooty · 27/05/2022 15:00

I usually get dressed when I get up and undressed before bed.

I spent most of yesterday in bed as I have covid and showered and changed my nightwear before going to bed again.

Sainos - wtaf.

DappledThings · 27/05/2022 15:00

None. Never changed out of school uniform when I was a child after school unless it was Brownies/swimming etc.

A bit of mud from dog walking wouldn't make me change just to go to the supermarket and a coffee.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 27/05/2022 15:00

That’s a lot of changing OP. You’re like Retirement Barbie!

DonnaRhea · 27/05/2022 15:02

@LottieTx what is wrong with changing 5 times a day if you're not washing the clothes every time?Alot people shower twice a day if they have an outdoor active life

TokyoTen · 27/05/2022 15:02

That would be too much for me! In the morning I shower and put on day clothes, at night I shower and take them off again. Hardly any changing unless I go swimming. I walk the dog in the same clothes as I WFH in - they are basically clean but are a bit scruffy (apart from any mud gathered that day).

airrrrAIRRRRiELLLL · 27/05/2022 15:03

I'm worn out just reading about the clothes changes you all do let alone the actual activities!

I get up, put clothes on, enjoy the day, get undressed for bed. I thought that's what most people did.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 27/05/2022 15:05

Most days I say in same clothes (jeans and top) for every thing. If I'm playing tennis I dress straight into kit and then get showered and put in jeans and top again. I only shower once per day so not before sport. I don't have a dog or horses so no dirt from those activities.

EileenGC · 27/05/2022 15:06

'Fresh' clothes on for going to work (as in, street clothes I'm not wearing yet - jeans and cardigans might have a couple of wears already on them).

I have 'home clothes' eg leggings and top/hoodie that I immediately change into when getting home. These are worn for several days unless smelly. Just 1-2 hors per day so I'm not chucking them in the washer after that.

Work 'uniform' worn between 3 and 5 days a week, for a couple of hours each time. Performing arts industry so depends on how many runs a week we're doing.

Usual schedule is somewhere between:

PJs - street clothes - PJs

and

PJs - street clothes - home clothes - street clothes - work uniform - PJs

It varies.

Squiff70 · 27/05/2022 15:06

Depends how much spag bol my toddler throws at me.

GaiaWise · 27/05/2022 15:07

Gym wear on first thing. Train after school run. After I’ve trained, shower and wear slob clothes for wfh/dog walk/ cleaning. Change from joggers to jeans for school run. Back in joggers after school run. Bra off! PJs later on.

gamerchick · 27/05/2022 15:08

Gym clothes, work clothes/normal clothes, jarmies. I wouldn't change normal clothes unless I was going out on the lash.

Llamasally · 27/05/2022 15:10

Very similar to the OP! Also blaming dogs and horses though. You can’t wear ‘normal’ clothes or you smell and people look at you funny when you go to the supermarket.

Olsi109 · 27/05/2022 15:11

Work days I may change when I get home out of my trousers and shirt l/dress into leggings and a hoody/pjs. None work days I dress in the morning for the kind of day I'm having. The odd occasion I may change for a lunch but that's very rare.

BlibBlabBlob · 27/05/2022 15:13

Clearly it depends on your job and lifestyle. I mostly WFH and wear the same kind of clothes (very casual) regardless of what I'm planning to do for the day (WFH, working in the office, weekend). So I get up in the morning, shower, into clothes and then back into PJs in the evening (with another shower beforehand if I've gotten sweaty and stinky at all e.g. in very hot weather, but usually I only wash in the mornings).

I don't have a job that requires a uniform, I don't do a job that requires me to get dirty/sweaty, I don't have a dog and I certainly don't have a horse! Clearly with your lifestyle, OP, changing clothes a lot is kind of necessary (although I do wonder why you need special dog-walking clothes instead of just putting on some wellies and a coat).

I thought you were going to say that you changed outfits every hour because you have some sort of obsessive compulsive need to change your clothes. But you're doing nothing out of the ordinary; everyone changes clothes (and showers) WHEN THERE IS A NEED TO DO SO. That will look different depending on an individual person's lifestyle/job/day.

Keep calm and carry on with your (very active) lifestyle - I am only in my 40s but hope to one day be like you!

Yourearealboy · 27/05/2022 15:13

Get changed out of pj’s, have shower & get dressed for work.
Get changed at work to come home in own clothes.
Get home and get changed into scruff clothes so nice clothes stay nice.
(yesterday I had a Drs appointment so got changed again into decent clothes.)
Get change into joggers and top to lounge about in after shower.
Get changed into PJ’s for bed

Re the washing:

Nice clothes I’ve just driven home from work in get put away & reworn repeatedly on rotation as they are only on 20/30 mins.
scruff clothes will be worn for a few days -depending on what I’m doing.
Lounging about clothes stay clean for ages.

You are either pulling our legs or deluded in no way is changing clothes 5 times a day and three showers normal, one quick question, how many meals can you get from a single roast chicken and do you get full from an enormous salad!

OldTinHat · 27/05/2022 15:17

I'm not well so can sleep and do the day in the same clothes for a few days.

easyday · 27/05/2022 15:17

Once dressed I don't change at all unless twice a week when doing PT session. I live in London walk dogs but that doesn't require a change of clothes (even when I lived more rurally I might, depending change from shoes to boots).
