What would you expect a "bottomless brunch" to be?

Girly weekend away, bottomless brunch suggested, at around £20 per head. All agreed. Ended up being £12 more.

What would you expect from it?

Its usually a brunch menu where you can choose from Eggs Benedict and the like with unlimited prosecco or cocktails for a 2 hr period

A meal, what that is depends on where you are, I've been to one 'breakfasty' one, a Greek one and a Chinese one with unlimited beer/Prosecco. Normally cost £25-30 and last 1.5-2 hours.

Typically they aren't actually at brunch time, more likely in the afternoon although the Chinese one I did was 5pm!!

The Greek one was the best as it was actually unlimited food too.

I would expect a Buffet of some sort. Surprised most say it's actually just bottomless booze, seems a bit misleading!

The last one I went to was £6-£16 for the food plus £25 for the unlimited drinks (2 hours).

All this for £20?! That would be incredible. I think it's usually a lot more basic!

As others say choice of a meal with 'unlimited' booze usually house wine, beer, prosecco. 20 pounds seems cheap though, usually 30/40 pounds

Presumably the £20 was the bottomless bit, I’m guessing probably Prosecco, unlimited for 1.5-2 hours. Then the extra £12 was for your choice of menu item, like eggs Benedict or similar.

What ever the description included. Every brand will do their own, they vary by meal and what drinks are included.

Did you read the specification before you arrived or clarify with the venue when booking?

For those saying they're surprised it's not unlimited food - food isn't usually described as "bottomless", that's a drinks thing! You'd get bottomless tea or coffee, not bottomless bacon sandwiches, it's not the right term. So unlimited bubbles (with time restrictions) but 1 plate of food, sounds right from the description.

It depends where.....in Scotland there's licensing rules which mean boozy brunch comes with a couple of drinks included. But I've been to one in the middle east that was a massive hotel buffet, all sorts of hot and cold dishes - you could have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner, and your glass never got emptied before one of the waiters refilled it. I've also never been so hungover in my life!!

Interesting to hear that the unlimited part refers to alcohol! I haven’t heard of this before so just based on the words bottomless brunch I would expect unlimited amounts of breakfast/brunch foods, tea/coffee and juice. I wouldn’t have expected alcohol to be part of it at all!

But I’m one of the people who thinks that brunch, being a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch, is a meal that takes place between 10am-noon, and I have already learnt from a previous thread that many people think brunch is a meal that can happen at any time of day and just refers to the type of food served.

Assuming your bottomless brunch takes this latter approach then alcohol being involved isn’t so surprising, but in my mind if it’s taking place after noon then it’s not brunch!

Yeah, a bottomless food brunch would be called ‘all you can eat’ wouldn’t it?

I'd read the T&Cs and make no assumptions because what you get differs between places.

£20 is quite a bit less than what you'd expect to pay for the full 'nice food and as much prosecco as you want' experience so my spidey senses would have me doubly checking what the £20 covered.

I'm guessing in your case, it was assumed that it included drinks, but not unless you paid the extra £12?

Tends to be a choice of a breakfast dish then unlimited tea and coffee plus fizz or a cocktail.

Often time bound so maybe for a few hours.

Which generally is plenty of time

Plus, it's not like we're quaffing the fizz at 7am before the school run!

Ah, it seems I've got it the wrong way round and the £20 is for the drink only and the £12 was for the meal.

Makes sense. I've never been to one because the opportunity has never arisen and I wouldn't choose one because it's priced for someone who'd eat and drink a lot more than I would so as someone who'd probably have not much food and a couple of glasses of prosecco at most, it seems really expensive.

I've learnt something new today. Never heard of a bottomless brunch but would have assumed an endless supply of breakfast/lunch food. Would never have occured to me that alcohol was involved. As a non drinker I'd be proper disappointed.

Here it's sandwiches, cakes and 2 hours of drink as much prosecco as you can

I suppose what you mean, but "brunch" to me means food, not drinks. So I would expect it to say bottomless drinks if that's what it was. I accept that that's probably a false assumption though!

1 brunch item I.e avocado on toast of pretty poor quality and unlimited amounts of the cheapest Prosecco or the choice to upgrade to cocktails for up to 2 hours.
