What would you expect a "bottomless brunch" to be?

Girly weekend away, bottomless brunch suggested, at around £20 per head. All agreed. Ended up being £12 more.

What would you expect from it?

I'd have expected a buffet, not prosecco.

Wineat5isfine · 20/05/2022 12:11

For £32, a choice of one meal from a menu and u limited Prosecco.

CupidStunt22 · 20/05/2022 12:08

It is pretty clear though

So I was right first time in assuming eating out. Just wanted to clarify since op hasn't been forthcoming. If she doesn't come back I will be very annoyed. Very. 😡

Alwayspaintyournails · 20/05/2022 12:12

For £20 a head I wouldn’t expect too much.
We went to one for a hen afternoon (2pm) and it was one brunch dish, 1 cocktail and upto 3 glasses of Prosecco.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2022 12:12

This thread is a revelation to me, I had no idea booze would be involved in this, have seen the term advertised but just assumed it was a late breakfast with tea and coffee - as much as you want.

in what way is it bottomless, if its’s not all you can eat/drink?

Alwayspaintyournails · 20/05/2022 12:12

Sorry that was £35 a head.

EspeciallyDistracted · 20/05/2022 12:13

I’d have assumed there was some sort of unlimited aspect to the food as well, eg as many croissants, pastries etc as you want, plus top-ups of prosecco for a couple of hours, probably 10-12ish as after that it’s lunch.

I’d rather have unlimited food than drink too, otherwise I’d be asleep by mid afternoon.

DameHelena · 20/05/2022 12:13

I thought it was you order one food item and then have unlimited bucks fizz and hot drinks.

I'm clearly out of the loop because I'd expect unlimited food, too.

Brunch = food (to me) so I'd expect bottomless food and just assume the word 'bottomless' had been selected for alliteration purposes.

I'd be very disappointed to find limited food and endless booze Grin

Looks like I'm joining you outside the loop.

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 20/05/2022 12:16

A sore head 😫 😜
While I'm there though, some kind of breakfast type dish (eggs benedict, pancakes....) served to your table with a jug of the crappiest sparkling wine mixed with cheapo OJ.

BrunoMadrigal · 20/05/2022 12:16

I live in London. Usually bottomless brunch is ordering something from the brunch menu, and unlimited Prosecco. You usually need to pay more for the Prosecco option, otherwise it’s tea and coffee.

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2022 12:17

Bottomless but with a very definite bottom? Sounds like a racket to me.Grin

ZealAndArdour · 20/05/2022 12:17

Bottomless brunch is usually one meal off a set brunch menu and then “unlimited” Prosecco. Unlimited in the sense it’s as much as you can drink in the period you have your table for I.E. between 12pm and 2pm, but there’s often other arbitrary stuff built in to slow you down, such as only one bottle to the table at a time, and slower than usual service, etc.

Its not for me these days, I’m past the point of wanting to smash as much drink down me as possible for the littlest money. I’d rather drink what I enjoy and get a refill as and when I need it. The sense of urgency would ruin my enjoyment.

I also live in London but I gather they are a fairly nationwide concept 😉

I think they might even do them in Manchester 😮

brookstar · 20/05/2022 12:19

The one near me is £35 and it's for two hours.
You get two small plates (tapas type food) loads of fries and unlimited drinks which includes beer, spirits and cocktails.

passport123 · 20/05/2022 11:51

Blimey, does everyone here drink in the mornings?!

The last bottomless brunch I did was at 7pm.
I think it's just become an easy way to describe food and unlimited drinks and doesn't always mean 'brunch'

ShirleyPhallus · 20/05/2022 12:23

Lol at all the people thinking that bottomless brunch would just be something else on the menu that you might order without being surrounded by 10 other parties all equally shitfaced at 11am

Id say bottomless brunch is more an event or experience than a menu item

contrary13 · 20/05/2022 12:23

The places my daughter and her mates go to, it's breakfast-type food and unlimited (ie, "bottomless") glasses of alcohol - prosecco, wine, cocktails, beer/lager and mixer drinks. No soft drinks/tea/coffee as, apparently then you "don't get the deal" - which you also don't get if one person on the table doesn't partake in getting hideously drunk from 11am onwards...

Luckily, she doesn't go very often and only has a glass or two, but some of her friends end up rat-arsed by lunchtime.

Unless prosecco or bucks fizz were mentioned then I wouldn't assume they'd be served. Afternoon tea for example often has two prices, one with a glass of something and one without.

I recall one many years ago that started at Sunday lunchtime and was still going strong on Tuesday evening!

slashlover · 20/05/2022 12:29

So what did it contain @OP

The bottomless in bottomless brunch specifically refers to the alcohol. IT's not at all comparable to afternoon tea.

catsonahottinroof · 20/05/2022 12:35

I've never been to one and wouldn't really fancy it as don't like drinking in the morning. I don't know why they serve Prosecco though, it's the last thing most people would feel like drinking at that time of day. They should do cocktails like Espresso martinis and Bloody Mary's and pints of Guiness.

Grin This is literally the point of bottomless brunch, you’re not drinking for the taste

Also lol at “luckily”. Gawd bless MN .

Blossomtoes · 20/05/2022 12:37

I wouldn’t expect any more booze than a couple of Buck’s Fizzes at most but I’d expect unlimited food and tea/coffee.
