You won't be able to keep spring water for more than a few days. The reason tap water keeps so long is that it has been treated and contains chlorine. We have a well in our garden and DH keeps trying to show me how remove the cap to access it. I'm like, fuck off, haven't you seen The Ring.

😂😂 😂

Ijsbear · 12/05/2022 17:27

I’m surprised Finland is stiring the pot just now after staying out neutral for so long. Adding to the east west tension is not good.

Self preservation, it's called. If you're surprised at it you might want to look at what's happened in Ukraine and consider a bit of history.

I don't want China to bloody invade, it was humour. It'd do nothing but destabilize the world more.

China has a similar grievance over Taiwan so NATO has to be very careful not to provoke them, in addition supplies so much of the global technology that any dispute would bring a great deal of industry to a halt. China invading Russia is just wishful thinking.

So you go for appeasement
And victim blaming

Good to know

TheABC · 12/05/2022 17:44

Blue Sauron on Twitter has just tallied up the losses from that failed river crossing in Bilohorivka. 73 pieces of equipment abandoned and (rumour has it) 1500 RU soldiers died.

UA's military engineer explained the scenario, afterwards.
twitter.com/kms_d4k/status/1524506104192974849.

Like everything, it's not properly verified so take it with a pinch of salt. I think Red's comment earlier about the power symmetry flipping to Ukraine is happening.

Damn I can’t work out how to search on new improved Mumsnet to find out if this poster has a history of such posts.

@TheABC I couldnt get that link to work, do you have an @name?

there was a twitter post by someone who claimed to have masterminded the whole thing though some doubted it, specially as the guy asked for money at the end. But that rather pre-supposes that other people hold the same view that asking for money is a bit tasteless, which isn't the case in some cultures. No idea if Ukraine is one of them, though by the slightly unusual discussions between my guests and I, one of their charactistics is paying more than expected. It's not often someone asks to increase their rent!

My understanding on that is pride. They don't want to be seen as a charity case, and at the moment i think many feel a little like that.

PerkingFaintly · 12/05/2022 18:17

Thank you for that fascinating link to agnotology.

Just a longer word for FUD (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt), but useful for examining the concept.

And yes, I've seen immense amounts of it in the wild over the last 10+ years. MN has been hosed with it in recent years.

Yeah. They are intensely independent too; same cause, I think.

PerkingFaintly · 12/05/2022 18:18

Indeed, Countess. I've been feeling the loss of Search for similar reasons.

Gosh

Gosh indeed. Given it’s from anonymous I’m inclined to believe it too. Putin must be shitting himself.

Ijsbear · 12/05/2022 18:34

I have a feeling Anonymous tend to big themselves up but they've (well it was probably them) achieved some good stuff against Russia.

If it's true that 3 Chinese banks have rejected the request to start a new payment system - do they have their own that they want Russia to use? If not I'll enjoy the schadenfreude of seeing Russia betrayed by someone they considered an ally, in their turn.

Ijsbear · 12/05/2022 18:42

Unconfirmed rumours

www.fleetmon.com/maritime-news/2022/38237/brand-new-auxiliary-ship-russian-navy-suffered-maj/

if true the VSEVOLOD BOBROV, an auxiliary and ice breaking ship, suffered a major fire but did not sink.

Given the fierce battles over Snake Island, I wonder if this is the latest event.

AntonyCoulson1 · 12/05/2022 18:52

Its horrific!...

Ijsbear · 12/05/2022 19:08

Seems like there might be another failed river crossing. If true the generals must be tearing their hair out!

Hah yeah don't want to recreate The Ring Grin I think we have a well too as there's a little dog house looking thing that's not a dog house but no idea how to get into it and also the whole The Ring thing...

Well that sucks about the spring water, think I'll buy some bottled water for just in case. I do have one 5 litre bottle already.

We're not stirring the pot, as Sauli so perfectly put it, it's Putin that caused this (the move towards NATO) he should look in the mirror.

And we haven't been neutral for a long time, not since the collapse of the soviet Union which forced neutrality on Finland.

TheABC · 12/05/2022 19:20

Have a nosy on @trent Telenko's timeline and @Blue Sauron.

Doing kids bedtime, otherwise I would be more specific...

Igotjelly · 12/05/2022 19:35

total aside but highly recommend watching Fearghal Keane’s documentary ‘Living with PTSD’ - really opens the eyes to the reality of what it takes to be a war correspondent.

Obtained a recording of an oligarch close to the Russian government saying Vladimir Putin is “very ill with blood cancer.” Is this the truth, a rumor or clever disinformation intended to make a paranoid dictator look ripe for removal?

Aren't blood cancer patients particularly vulnerable to covid? As in, they are some of the most at risk?

@RedToothBrush This is interesting. Yes, people with blood cancer are particularly vulnerable when Covid is involved.
