As we had suspected Azov commanders are still at Azovstal

"I and Azov commanders are on the territory of Azovstal. Certain operation is underway, I will not disclose the details. Thank you world & thank you Ukraine for your support. See you," deputy commander of Azov Sviatoslav Palamar said in a short address

"See you" 😢😢😢

MMBaranova · 19/05/2022 23:29

The video apparently was truncated and there's a bit more here. The presenter says some totally nutjob things about the Bidens and Romneys. That's an RT type mindset.

Thanks for your rational response to my wine-fuelled rant @Ijsbear :-)

This is a fascinating and detailed article. It demonstrates that they will able to identify a lot of war criminals.

New Evidence Shows How Russian Soldiers Executed Men in Bucha
Witness testimony and videos obtained by The New York Times show how Russian paratroopers executed at least eight Ukrainian men in a Kyiv suburb on March 4, a potential war crime.

What the hell is this now? China doing tests to prepare attacks on US bases and Japanese aircraft? Can somebody just spell out for me why it seems like the major world powers are suddenly preparing to attack each other? Or has it always been like this and I've been living under a rock?

Can I join you under the rock?

This is something that has been happening for considerable time unfortunately.

You are just noticing.

RedToothBrush · 20/05/2022 06:56

It would be difficult but a small number of men hiding and then being extracted would be potentially possible. Dangerous. But might be possible. Unlike for over a thousand men.

Mum can you come see me at school for a performance?
Oo the nativity?
No mum we are learning how to patriotically stand in the shape of a Z with a Russian flag

Captive medic's bodycam shows firsthand horror of Mariupol.

Footage was smuggled out by the last journalists who left. In the article it explains how the footage shows her treating both Ukrainians and Russians.

She is now being held by the Russians.

MagicFox · 20/05/2022 09:00

Interesting. Not sure what to make of this statement:

"Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov says providing Russia with security guarantees would prevent a global energy and wheat crisis

Pushkov said that US sanctions overlooked the degree of globalization in the world economy"

Oh my gosh, I've just stupidly read a thread underneath this one and physically threw up! My heart hurts and I can't believe what I've just read. My faith in humanity is wearing really thinSad. This takes me back to my comments from the very first threads about regretting brining my children in to this world and I genuinely do! I love them with my whole heart but my god, this world is so cruel.

heldinadream · 20/05/2022 09:29

@katem98 - the post about the raping of children? Yes. I know.

Handhold. I don't know if I have any words of comfort but handhold. I feel the same and have for years. It is still possible to live with joy even knowing these things exist/happen.

Maybe do something that nourishes you? Please take care of yourself.

(I'm a mother to two and nana to three).

MagicFox · 20/05/2022 09:31

Oh @katem98 I know. I have terrible waves like this too. I'm sorry you saw that, it's fucking atrocious. I think, like RTB mentioned earlier, a lot of us are waking up to a world we didn't realise existed and it's not easy. We can never go back under our rocks now

Hope the hangover isn't too bad!

It's one of the really unpleasant parts of adulthood I think .. realising how peace and stability is actually pretty fragile. We've had so little war in Europe except for the former Yugoslavia. Admittedly that was dreadful. But it's an unpleasant realisation that no one can stop a Putin or a Stalin or a Hitler.

@heldinadream @MagicFox Thank you both. It's truly awful and I can't even comprehend it. I think I've genuinely been so naive with these sort of things happening and I just feel total shock! I think I've too been living under a rock for my whole lift it seems. It's all so senselessSad

Ijsbear · 20/05/2022 09:36

Hand hold too. It upset me very badly last night and I need to remember not to get too drawn in. I've seen extreme cruelty to children in the UK and reading this makes me feel so .. tired. Inside.

MagicFox · 20/05/2022 09:36

That's exactly right @Ijsbear. I think now a lot of us (me included) need to learn to accommodate this realisation and figure out how to live with it and not freak out.

OP posts:
MagicFox · 20/05/2022 09:39

It's true, think about the Arthur and Star cases in the UK recently. That same sense of eye opening disbelief that this is what humanity is. There's something protective about being young (and maybe not having caring responsibilities) that somehow shelters you/makes you not see. And then it's a shock to find out what the world is really like. That what we thought was the horror of the past isn't the past but is very much our present.

OP posts:
katem98 · 20/05/2022 09:41

Yes I agree @MagicFox I think it also heightens your fears when you become a mother. It's truly terrifying!

minsmum · 20/05/2022 09:44

The post about finding Nazi paraphernalia in the Azovstal plant, all I would say is that the Ukrainians would have to be complete idiot's to take that into a bunker knowing that the chances of the Russians capturing it were reasonably high. The Ukrainians don't seem to be idiots

Yes, but most of humanity loves most of their children and there are many instances of extraordinary love and effort, some spectacular and some smaller, unseen, day by day efforts of endurance to give children stability, love and care. So many people work to repair the damage that is done to children. So many damaged people work to make sure their own children are given as good a background as possible. This isn't just comfortable thoughts; it happens, every day, all day. Mostly it's just invisible.

I think we are just capable of much more extremes that people come across in every day life, both the depths and often the heights.

Ijsbear · 20/05/2022 10:12

sometimes you do just need someone to hold your hand a while though

MagicFox · 20/05/2022 10:17

You're right, it's easy to forget when reading so much horror that there is also love and resilience and the best of humanity to stand up against it

MMBaranova from what little I could bear to watch on the video, the Nazi paraphernalia in the so-called Azov HQ looks new(ly planted) and suspiciously similar to the sort in the Sims 3 Cards x 3 set up of the earlier Russian farce. As minsmum says, Azov would be deeply stupid to leave this evidence lying around knowing they would be prime targets for propaganda and capture.

I find it chilling the way the video was done like a piece of investigative journalism with that American bloke and lady who looked like she might be a academic. Ultimately it is Russian propaganda.
