I've just been invited on a three day/two night baby shower

WTF?!

Travelling to another city; meal on day/night one, 'activities' on day two followed by another meal at another restaurant. Brunch on the third morning. Two nights in pricey hotel. Plus expensive gift list. Plus themes to have to dress for such as 'pink night'

I won't be attending. The 'Mama' as she calls herself on the invites didn't even invite me to her daytime wedding, just the evening do, so I'm clearly not that good a friend!

omg how over the top! And I love a good baby shower! Don’t do it, how ridiculous!

TerribleCustomerCervix · 25/04/2022 12:09

We need updates as to how this has been received from the other invitees, OP.

Has a WhatsApp group been set up yet?

skgnome · 25/04/2022 12:12

Wow!
baby shower…. Fine, if you’re friends organise it for you
you’re pregnant and want to have a holiday with your friends… again fine
but a 3 day baby shower??? What???

Lem0nDrizzle · 25/04/2022 12:15

That is absolutely bat shit crazy.

Would be a no from me

Mungojerry69 · 25/04/2022 12:16

Fucking hell

Snoopsnoggysnog · 25/04/2022 12:17

Is she Meghan Markle?

MinnieMountain · 25/04/2022 12:18

Blimey. I thought DH’s friend was being over the top for having baby showers for both her pregnancies.

Rainbowqueeen · 25/04/2022 12:19

Are all the attendees supposed to cover the cost of The Mama between them???

Solongtoshort · 25/04/2022 12:19

I have two pregnant friends, one normal down to earth, one with a touch of drama it’s funny to watch.

l hope these baby showers trips aren’t contagious 🙄

namechangeanonymous · 25/04/2022 12:21

Sorry, what?
Says the pregnant person who basically just sits on the sofa.
Activities? Is that sleeping, eating and MN?

HappyMeal564 · 25/04/2022 12:21

I get the feeling this will be a vvv pfb 🤣🤣

gamerchick · 25/04/2022 12:22

Rather grate my face off tbh. I wonder if many will go.

JudgeJ · 25/04/2022 12:23

Indiana2021 · 25/04/2022 11:53

🙄Tell 'Mama' to do one!

How unbelievably grabby. I can confidently predict that when her little Prince or Princess arrives she'll also be the only person in the world to have ever given birth. And she'll no doubt have a dramatic birth story where she 'nearly died'.

Sone people are just bloody awful.

And you'll probably not get to see the mini Messiah as she will find it necessary to be cocooned with her 'little family' until it's about 3, unless she wants something from you.

DontyoulovemeDXB · 25/04/2022 12:24

The baby shower trend isn't my thing, but why take the piss out of someone who choses a different name to refer to themselves as a parent than you do?

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 25/04/2022 12:24

Oh my God OP my jaw hit the floor!!!!! What on earth is she thinking Grin

If this is the direction of travel we are heading in now, stop the world, I want to get off.

JudgeJ · 25/04/2022 12:24

Snoopsnoggysnog · 25/04/2022 12:17

Is she Meghan Markle?

Doubt it, unless the OP is a very wealthy, A-list celebrity.

grapewines · 25/04/2022 12:25

The ridiculousness of it...

Some people need to get a serious grip of their entitlement.

Cheeseandlobster · 25/04/2022 12:25

Rainbowqueeen · 25/04/2022 12:19

Are all the attendees supposed to cover the cost of The Mama between them???

I was also going to ask this. If you were not invited to the day do to her wedding she is probably inviting you and others for the presents. It's grabby as hell and crass considering how much the cost of living has gone up. I bet plenty can't afford this ridiculous event.

GCAcademic · 25/04/2022 12:25

Is the person American? It sounds like Meghan Markle's baby shower. Is a private jet involved?

Maydaysoonenough · 25/04/2022 12:27

Will they all be wearing Grease jackets with Pink Ladies on the back??

Parentcarerandcrazy · 25/04/2022 12:28

This is getting ridiculous!

When I was a kid/teenager/young adult, hen parties were one night out in town and literally hadn't even heard of a baby shower until about 2005, and that was in America. Now the expectation for hen parties is a weekend away, brides having seperate ones for family, friends, colleagues etc. Now baby showers are going the same way 🙄😨
And then there's prom nights (we had a leavers disco 🤣) and sweet 16th and God knows what else.

wishitwasaduvetday · 25/04/2022 12:28

😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
This is hilarious! Surely it can't be true?!

I'd need a bloody lot of alcohol to get through that weekend.... not likely to be free flowing if hosted by pregnant person!!

I'd send a beautiful regret RSVP card to Mama and write inside: Dear Mama, Fuck That! Best wishes, CallMeJune x

Hallyup89 · 25/04/2022 12:29

I tend to feel very sorry for people like this. Must be awful to have so little self-esteem that you need to constantly draw attention to yourself so that society can validate your life decisions.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 25/04/2022 12:32

A WHAT!?

2/3 days?

Ridiculous. Does she wear long fake nails, drip in diamonds, own a ridiculous number of handbags and talk about how much money she can get from her 'baby daddy'?

How tacky and crass.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/04/2022 12:33

If you were only an evening invite to her wedding then I suspect that you are the b-list for this trip. She has probably already been turned down by quite a few people and so is extending outwards to less close friends, who will almost certainly also turn her down.

I predict passive-aggress social media posts about finding out who your real friends are and how friends should be happy for other friends' new arrivals.
