And so the madness continues! Here's our 9th thread to discuss, boast and rant about the game that is more pointless than Pointless, needs Masterminds to solve and will make Eggheads of us all, what with the amount of hair-pulling it induces!

If you have no clue what I'm on about, our last thread is here, and the game itself can be found here.

To any newbies, welcome to the dark side, and to those who have played before, thanks for keeping me company I'm this!

I'm terrified of posting pics on these threads!

For your actual query... sort of similar but not matching the meaning of the target.

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2022 11:54

@AppleKatie more emphatic versions will get you higher, remember it's American so the more hyperbolic the better! Then once you're in the 990s you can dial it down a bit.

MzHz · 11/04/2022 11:56

I wasn’t on 992, i was on 990, not that this helped, eventually was just trying words similar to it and exploring Others that sounded a bit like it.

I solved Semantle #72 in 113 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 11.21. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #12. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 30.39 (677/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

MzHz · 11/04/2022 11:58

992.. I bet nobody will ever use that… I have never heard of that word at all before!

AppleKatie · 11/04/2022 12:04

I solved Semantle #72 in 222 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.77. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #33. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 26.13 (17/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Thank you for the help you very kind people! Knowing it was positive was really helpful and the clue about upping American hyperbole was also really good advice!

squirrelnutkins1 · 11/04/2022 12:27

I think everyone will know the word but I would say it's an every day word x

squirrelnutkins1 · 11/04/2022 12:27

Urgh *wouldnt!

Weirdly my best ever attempt - I’m usually well over 100 guesses

JaneJeffer · 11/04/2022 13:21

@MzHz I think I will start using it. It sounds so cute Grin

ThePontiacBandit · 11/04/2022 13:28

One clue from here based on a couple of 900+ greens got me a quick success!

I solved Semantle #72 in 76 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -1.19. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #42. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 35.29 (911/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Disaster today, 257. Got it in the end though!

Etinoxaurus · 11/04/2022 14:07

I would love a clue, 200 guesses in, none higher than 914, and disappearing down a hymn like rabbit hole.

Has anyone shared the diy version?

AliasGrape · 11/04/2022 14:23

Needed some clues from this thread today.

My first guess was the first word I heard as I turned on the radio before playing, it gave me green number 288. I tried lots of things that were a bit like 288 and managed to get into the low 800s that way but then got really bogged down and needed the thread. Actually now I have the answer I can see that 288 was quite a good one in that you often need it in order to eventually

I solved Semantle #72 in 93 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 27.50 (288/1000).My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.65. semantle.novalis.org/

What DIY version?

914 is rather indirectly related - you might get somewhere by trying some antonyms, and then working from there.

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2022 14:52

@Etinoxaurus be less nice and more ruthless.

Etinoxaurus · 11/04/2022 14:54

@ErrolTheDragon
you can make your own semantles!

Annoyingly I got that one in 16! Why can't I do the daily ones that fast?

JaneJeffer · 11/04/2022 15:09

How is it customised?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/04/2022 15:10

I got that custom one quite quick, but I presumed it was a word a mumsnetter would use!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/04/2022 15:12

Make your own

madnessitellyou · 11/04/2022 15:16

Not bad!

I solved Semantle #72 in 57 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.16. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #32. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 21.64

JaneJeffer · 11/04/2022 15:20

Turns out I'm just as bad at the customised version but if I knew what they based it on it might help!

gogohm · 11/04/2022 15:29

Not a single green in 100 guesses, the hymn clue is useless ... I work for the church!
