And so the madness continues! Here's our 9th thread to discuss, boast and rant about the game that is more pointless than Pointless, needs Masterminds to solve and will make Eggheads of us all, what with the amount of hair-pulling it induces!

I solved Semantle #72 in 79 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.84. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #38. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 36.63 (939/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Goodness. Finally got it thanks to the PM from @AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes! Took me way, way too long to get there. And I don't think the word is anything like as 'strong' as some of my highest greens.

I solved Semantle #72 in 163 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.58. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #45. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.21. semantle.novalis.org/

Pushes my average back up again to over 78. I was hoping to bring that down.

Urgh. This felt like one of my worst yet. Need to get on with some work now as this kept distracting me.

Despite all the moaning and groaning, DH is having another go today.

I think, though, part of the 'enjoyment' (perhaps too strong a word ) for me comes from the sharing of our thinking/frustration on these threads, and knowing/sharing with others. He doesn't have any of that, and he's certainly not going to join MN for this. (I hope!)

You are right BIWI the target word is not as 'strong' as the top words. You could from more than one point of view I think. It has positive overtones.

I have a huge vocabulary, which is more of a hindrance than a benefit for this game. I always know the word, but I throw a crap ton of guesses at it first.

I'm not sure I've ever used it except in a hymn. It's not an obscure word, but there are simpler alternatives which mean much the same.

Aagh, now not only am I going out of my mind trying to solve it, I'm also running through primary school assemblies, trying to remember the words to All Things Bright and Beautiful and Go Tell It On The Mountain

Actually I don't think it's that unusual a word - thinking along those lines was a bit off-putting, tbh.

My dad used the word in a mangled family saying about thinking and dancing.

I don’t think it’s that unusual a word either - I can think of a number of different contexts that I’ve heard it in and weirdly, can remember the first time I heard it used, in class, aged 11.
