And so the madness continues! Here's our 9th thread to discuss, boast and rant about the game that is more pointless than Pointless, needs Masterminds to solve and will make Eggheads of us all, what with the amount of hair-pulling it induces!

If you have no clue what I'm on about, our last thread is here, and the game itself can be found here.

To any newbies, welcome to the dark side, and to those who have played before, thanks for keeping me company I'm this!

@BIWI if someone is eventually 967, what did they do?

BowerOfBramble · 11/04/2022 09:38

If anyone guesses 992 I’ll be so proud! Wtf?

BIWI · 11/04/2022 09:41

I'm up to 994 now - so definitely on the right track!

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2022 09:41

@BIWI

Can't get beyond 967. Next green is very similar at 911, so is this the path I should be following?

Very few greens today and most are low, which aren't really helping!

You're in the right area. Maybe try different parts of speech as well as synonyms.

The solution isn't the simplest and most obvious word imo.

darmar · 11/04/2022 09:46

I solved Semantle #72 in 172 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.69. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #2. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.84. semantle.novalis.org/

I thought today would be a good day when I got a high green at guess number 2.
I've also just realised after accidentally closing my browser the other day I've lost my stats!

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2022 09:46

@BIWI I took 400 more guesses from 994. It's a related word but more eventual than immediate.

Redcrayons · 11/04/2022 09:47

@BowerOfBramble I’ve never come across that word before, had to google to see what it means. It’s not even in the ballpark of 1000.

I know there’s a lot of americanisms in there, but usually I’ve at least heard of them even if I wouldn’t use them.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2022 09:49

@BowerOfBramble

I think that's just one of the anomalies which a list compiled by a human would never have included.
BIWI · 11/04/2022 09:53

Hmm. Not getting anywhere fast. Time for another coffee I think!

rutabagger · 11/04/2022 09:58

Finally!

I solved Semantle #72 in 194 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 17.49. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #23. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.89. semantle.novalis.org/

BowerOfBramble · 11/04/2022 09:59

Well I’m going to try and use it in a sentence today. If anyone gets it they’re either a poet or a semantler!

BowerOfBramble · 11/04/2022 09:59

Who’s still stuck?

RoxieLoxy · 11/04/2022 10:00

@BowerOfBramble 😆

I can't see what 974 has to do with it. Seems very neutral compared to the word.

RoxieLoxy · 11/04/2022 10:02

@BowerOfBramble the lol was at your 992 comment rather than me just randomly laughing 🤣🤣

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2022 10:02

Yes, but there might be contexts in which that word was used with the target.

Useranon1 · 11/04/2022 10:04

THIS IS SO INFURIATING!!!!

BowerOfBramble · 11/04/2022 10:06

Get thee to a thesaurus - it’s a lesser used word for 972. I can only think of a few contexts it’s used in.

SouperNoodle · 11/04/2022 10:08

Can someone just message me a clue of the theme? 😅 I'm losing my mind

Useranon1 · 11/04/2022 10:12

I had to resort to using a thesaurus for the first time. Note sure I'd have gotten it without. That was worse than #70

I solved Semantle #72 in 96 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.27. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #41. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 29.85 (624/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

PMed you Souper

I'm not sure I've ever used it except in a hymn. It's not an obscure word, but there are simpler alternatives which mean much the same.
Heronatemygoldfish · 11/04/2022 10:16

Thank you @ErrolTheDragon! I'd not got beyond the late 800s before I read your clue... then I got it in three.

I solved Semantle #72 in 60 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.52. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #9. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 12.94. semantle.novalis.org/

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2022 10:17

@SouperNoodle I don't know if you now have better than 811, but it's kind of the endgame of that.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 11/04/2022 10:18

Wow! Would never have got it without the thesaurus!

I solved Semantle #72 in 57 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -2.61. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #13. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 36.63 (939/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

poppym12 · 11/04/2022 10:26

Hmmm. I've never heard of that word in that context. Maybe I need to read a thesaurus.
