Watching this makes me so angry - again - that we are not in the EU anymore. Looks even more ridiculous now

What will it mean to Russia?

Could this latest talk of terrible war possibly a bluff to get Russia to the negotiating table?

It's more a question that Russia is undertaking the war. They have no reason at the moment to negotiate in anything like good faith. (Even if they were losing, Good Faith appears to be an unknown concept to the Russian leadership anyway).

A Russian air strike near Barvinkove has hit the only Ukraine-controlled railway exit from Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, stalling evacuations from Donbas, says Ukrzaliznytsia board chair Oleksandr Kamyshin. He called the rail line the "road of life" for 10s of 1000s of civilians.

Hungary voted for! I was half expecting them to go the other way or at the very least abstain.
Now maybe we can start getting aid/support/ peacekeepers in.

Russian state news agency TASS: "Russia suffered significant losses during a special military operation in Ukraine, Dmitry Peskov said.

'We have suffered significant losses of troops, this is a huge tragedy for us,' the presidential spokesman said."

A reminder that Russia still only admits suffering 1,351 fatalities since launching its disastrous war against Ukraine.

I've been thinking of a book called 'Cilka's Journey' (Heather Morris) It's a story of a woman who was interned in Nazi Germany, liberated by the Red Army, then accused of being a Nazi collaborator (untrue), then interrned by the Russians. Her experiences were unrelentingly horrific - almost unbelievable - but completely true sadly. It's all happening again.

I knew a Ukrainian with a similar story. He was in the Red Army, captured by the Germans, as someone deemed racially pure given the option of fighting for the Germans or a concentration camp, then -despite choosing the concentration camp - he was sent to a gulag after the war. He always despised the Germans and the Russians.

Thank you for this. I have sent to DH as he keeps muttering about neo-nazis in Ukraine, whenever I mention the war. He's not following it really, but tends to see different things online to what I do (he's on Facebook, I'm not).

Has this been posted already? It was also brought up by Channel 4 News tonight.
Ukrainian officials admit it was wrong and against the Geneva Conventions and say it will be investigated.

It cannot be compared to the atrocities carried out by Russian soldiers on Ukrainian civilians, and their behaviour to these soldiers may be understandable, but it is really important for their cause that they should desist from anything contrary to the Geneva Conventions.

That was just what the UK diplomat raised as a point of order. He asked if Russia were being like the person who when fired responds to say they have resigned already

A couple hiding in the theatre in Mariupol have said the Russians knew that it was full of civilians. What kind of monster bombs a target with the word "children" outside it? The Ukrainian army had written to keep the children save, not realising that the Russian army have no humanity and took it as an invitation to bomb it.

Yes, it's clear Ukraine has been invaded because it was trying to become a progressive democracy, not because it is a neo-nazi state.

A lot of the Russian soldiers are neo-nazis, replete with tattoos and insignia.

How is mariapol still standing.

A British ex soldier was fighting in Mariupol 3 or 4 weeks back, i think R4 played his last MB phone call out, his description was very grim, constant shelling, civilian deaths, low on food, ammunition etc & he ended the call saying You may not hear from me for a while (possibly the understatement of the year)

I've often wondered what happened to him.

I’d taken a bit of a break the past couple of days after reading about bucha I just needed to focus on work and reflect a bit. Just been reading through the past threads and am quaking about all the things that have happened in the past 24 hours. It makes me feel so cowardly and stupid for feeling so afraid of what everything means Russia will be pushed into doing especially considering the bravery and determination of all the Ukrainians. Makes me feel really ashamed!

I just can’t help but wonder what it means to make Russia so isolated, is that not just going to make any dialogue with them impossible if and when the time comes? I completely appreciate we have to take a stand but it still makes me wince when I see things that might provoke Russia into committing even more atrocities. Probably me being totally naiive and stupid on how these situations are handled so please don’t take my post the wrong way!
