@TiddyTidTwo

Horrific scenes at the train station Sad Targeting civilians trying to evacuate, sickening.
Absolutely horrific, deliberately targeting fleeing citizens :( Beyond words how awful that is
DuncinToffee · 08/04/2022 10:52

You couldn't make it up

Russian state TV has taken a video from the set of a Russian series filmed near St Petersburg on 20 March and told viewers that it sbows Ukrainians preparing fake corpses for the scene of a "staged" attack by Russian forces on Ukrainian civilians

Former president of the Ukrainian Rugby Federation, who had also been captain of the Ukrainian Rugby team, was one of many deaths in Bucha Sad

Natsku · 08/04/2022 11:07

Zelensky saying that 30 were killed and around 300 injured in that train station attack. So many :(

DuncinToffee · 08/04/2022 11:17

Vitaly Shevchenko

Some background on Kramatorsk:

Late yesterday, the acting head of the Ukrainian railway company, Oleksandr Kamyshyn, said Russia had bombed the only Ukrainian-controlled railway line out of Kramatorsk, stranding refugees at the station there. It was hit this morning.

Zelensky talking about how important it is for EU to stop funding Russia with gas and oil money, and suggested that if its not possible to cut off supplies altogether, then payment should go to special accounts held outside of Russia, with Russia only getting access once they have withdrawn from Ukraine and there is peace.
Makes sense.

I have fuck all idea about the ins and outs of it and so am ideally placed to comment, but it's a shame the UK couldn't somehow pull enough gas out of the North Sea to cover the EUs needs and say "so long Tsarevitch"

LNG takes weeks to produce so isn't an ideal shoe-in.

I am pretty certain there used to be an EEC directive that banned burning gas to make electricity. Certainly in the 1980s when there was an experimental power station at Hams Hall. It had it's own offtake on the national grid, and could be shut down if gas was needed domestically.

TargusEasting · 08/04/2022 11:47

@Natsku
I am not familiar with the precise mechanics of inter-state bank transfers, but I thought the banking sanctions meant that payment in € was to an account guaranteed by the European paying bank but effectively frozen. The importing state would pay into an account it was able to control regardless of whether the sister bank was in Russia or not. Maybe I am wrong but that was precisely the reason for being paid in Rubles.

The Russian special operation to liberate the Russian speakers of the Donbas continues apace

Russia's defense ministry initially said it used high-precision rockets on three railway stations in the Donbas today.

But after the scale of the casualties in Kramatorsk became clear, it claimed the strike was a "provocation" that "has nothing to do with reality."

Just like with MH17, pro-Kremlin bloggers posted footage of what they said was a Russian attack on Kramatorsk – then deleted them once the civilian toll was clear

Warning, video with graphic images in link

MMBaranova · 08/04/2022 12:02

From a recent conversation, see image, name blanked out.

Subsequent discussion revealed that there is some porosity along the front as sometimes, apparently, Russian checkpoints let people through towards Ukrainian lines ['but not always']. They have heard from an old couple who got through.

Relative I am in touch with here is a postgrad student who is stuck back home with parents and has more or less been in the cellar since Russian forces passed through in the first days of the invasion as they came up from Crimea. She's OK with info being circulated so long as it is not identifying.

MMBaranova how incredibly scary. All very best wishes to your friends and family.

I'm aware saying that is really not enough...

Last night Russian state TV got as close as I've seen it get to that horrifying article published by RIA Novosti

I've added some subtitles (I hope you'll excuse my rushed job)

The first man speaking is a pro-Kremlin former Ukrainian MP. The second is presenter Vladimir Solovyov

ParsleySageRosemary · 08/04/2022 12:13

I’m remembering once again all that bullshit from Putin about the Ukrainians and Russians being one people. So Ukraine isn’t its own state. So Russia can murder them freely.

This is how they treat their own people is it?

TargusEasting · 08/04/2022 12:15

One for the War Crimes and genocide evidence files.

DuncinToffee · 08/04/2022 12:15

MMBaranova thank you for sharing, it's devastating to read. Strenght to you and your friends 🌻

Eduard Heger @eduardheger
I would like to confirm that #Slovakia has provided #Ukraine with an air-defence system S-300. #Ukrainian nation is #bravely defending its sovereign country and us too. It is our duty to help, not to stay put and be ignorant to the loss of human lives under #Russia’s agression.

Jimmy @jimmysecuk
Slovakian media are confirming that Slovak S-300PMU long range surface to air missiles have now been delivered to Ukraine.

And like with previous Russian threats, Lavrov's claim that Russia "would not allow" the transfer of the Slovak S300 to Ukraine has been shown to be empty.

DGRossetti · 08/04/2022 12:34

Bit of a pattern emerging here, isn't there ? All the atrocities these past few days come across a bit Rumpelstiltskin

ScrollingLeaves · 08/04/2022 12:46

@ MMBaranova What your relative is going through is unimaginable. Do you understand what is meant by trying to borrow money? Is that ready cash just to get out?

I would imagine it’s to bribe anyone that they might need to.
Shuuu · 08/04/2022 12:55

.

MMBaranova · 08/04/2022 12:59

Do you understand what is meant by trying to borrow money?

Someone will drive you across. As in a cross between a taxi fare and people smuggling. My understanding is that a man with a van/car will aim to get you through.

The old couple made it to Mykolaev (Nikolaev)and then on to Lviv (or Lvov to my relatives as they are Russian first language).

There are only two road bridges across from south Kherson Oblast to the north side. One east of Kherson city (the one Russian troops were pictured possibly setting up demolition charges on) and one further east at Nova Kakhovka. They are no doubt checkpointed choke points. Then there is getting through the checkpoints near the front. There is a rail bridge between that you could possibly walk across.

My brother would no doubt send them the money to get out if they convinced him it was feasible.

I find it surprising that the Russians aren't putting civil administration and food etc. distribution networks in place via Crimea, but then this situation was not planned for, just quick regime change???

The real motives.
Solovyov quoting the prediction he stated he believes in:
Zelensky will be the last president of Ukraine because after him there will not be any Ukraine.

MMBaranova · 08/04/2022 13:07

In early March 2014 a good friend from the UK was working in Yalta, Crimea. The Green Men came out of the Russian bases and progressively took over, intimidating the Ukrainians out of the peninsula. She got out in the confusion before the situation clarified by getting into a truck cab with her uncle in the night and they drove around the long way on an eastern hook, avoiding Sevastopol and Simferopol. At Russian checkpoints he deployed his Soviet era Russian and they made it across into then free Kherson oblast. They left pretty much everything behind.

She described how scary it was approaching a checkpoint where you are stopped by someone who might let you through, need a bribe, turn you back, arrest you or worse. The situation in Ukraine is far worse in that southern area than it is now.

It must be beyond belief. I had nightmares all last night, from a safe U.K. bed, about being trapped by Russian soldiers.

Do you think people usually only get through check-points with bribes?

Even if your brother sends money, can that money be got in a usable cash form? Sorry to understand so little: are there cash points?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 08/04/2022 13:23

Zelensky will be the last president of Ukraine because after him there will not be any Ukraine.
He's quoting Zhirinovsky. Zhirinovsky is a far right as you get.
