@ZekeJMiller (White House Reprter - “Biden calls for war crimes trial against Putin, says he’s seeking more sanctions” AND “asked if he thought what is happening in Ukraine is genocide, Biden told reporters no, I think it’s a war crime”

DuncinToffee · 04/04/2022 15:42

And on cue Smile

WASHINGTON (AP) — Biden calls for war crimes trial against Putin, says he's seeking more sanctions after reported atrocities in Ukraine.

Igotjelly · 04/04/2022 15:43

Also being reported in Bloomberg and CNBC

Kaitlan Collins @kaitlancollins
Pointing to what happened in Bucha, President Biden says, "We have to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need and we have to get all the details so this can be an actual, have a war crime trial. This guy is brutal and what’s happening in Bucha is outrageous."

blueshoes · 04/04/2022 16:06

Great about war crime trials and even more sanctions against Putin/Russia. That is all fine down the road. What Ukraine needs now is heavy arms/training of Ukraine military. I hope those reinforcements, being more sensitive, are being quietly arranged behind the scenes.

Or is this just all talk from Biden?

Thanks DuncinToffee, I guess that is the answer to my question.

More from Biden
President Biden - "I got criticised for calling Putin a war criminal... we saw what happened in Bucha... he is a war criminal...

Ijsbear · 04/04/2022 16:35

I didn't say Biden was worse than Trump! Trump was waaaay worse. But he is sometimes tactless!

I don't know why the hate towards Biden? Trump cut aid to Ukraine, Biden has increased it massively.

He has to work within the framework of European NATO allies and the countries bordering Ukraine to get aid in, US is by far the biggest donor.

If there is money to be made out of all this, it will be on the rebuilding of the place, already thought to be $120 billion but i think Biden is a little more human than to be thinking of money right now.

With what? i haven't seen that, he calls it as he sees it, Putin doesn't respect diplomacy, he sees it as weakness.

Putin hates being called out as a War Crim, see how he has banned the word "War" in relation to Ukraine?
He doesn't want that as his legacy, much rather deal with more moderate language, that he can twist, deny & divert.

Incredible statement from Russia’s Prosecutor General’s office-warning it will give a “criminal legal assessment” of the spreading of “false” info re the situation in Bucha, Ukraine. It says the Ukrainians are spreading “false statements”, “a cynical lie.” t.co/eLQrUjfJeP

Alexandra

I've not seen any hate towards biden?
Is it helpful too swing madly from a mild comment About one aspect of someone's leadership and jump to the word hate?

BBC
Town of Borodyanka will be worst-hit in Kyiv region, says prosecutor general

The town of Borodyanka will be the worst-hit by the Russian invasion in the Kyiv region, the Ukrainian prosecutor general has said.

Speaking on Ukrainian television, Iryna Venediktova said the number of victims in the town would be higher than anywhere else, though gave no further details.

TiddyTidTwo · 04/04/2022 17:06

Biden was right re war criminal and glad he's stuck to his guns whilst others were trying to get him to backtrack.

He's gone up in my estimation.

However, Peter, ordinary bloke is more hawkish. Definitely says how I feel (but I also realise it isn't this easy) and there's offensive language in this btw:

Biden has committed to continue to arm Ukraine. By saying "we have to continue to..." he's making it clear to Ukraine's allies that they have to do the same.

I've just seen a CNN item where the reporter claims people from Bucha told him that some Russian soldiers ditched their uniforms as they retreated. Some of these criminals could have disappeared into the Russian populace.

EsmaCannonball · 04/04/2022 17:25

Sorry, that should read 'disappeared into the Ukrainian populace.' I was thinking that Russian-speakers, even with Russian accents, aren't uncommon in Ukraine.

TiddyTidTwo · 04/04/2022 17:25

Pestor I hope to god most of those got out first.
