Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I solved Semantle #54 in 14 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.05. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #12. My penultimate guess had a similarity

I solved Semantle #54 in 59 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.06. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #8. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.75 (416/1000).

And .... it was all bloody luck. Having got to xxxxxword recently (and not getting the answer), I was just randomly throwing things and I got lucky. It's my first solve out of 4. I'm too impatient normally.

Gahhh yet again I'm stuck! Got loads of greens but just can't get the word.

@ZiaMcnab no I always do it on my phone but I might have left a few and not remembered because I was more inclined to give up at the start, have four gave ups, but I'm more determined to not let it beat me now!

Haven't started today's yet. Am hoping my toddler goes to sleep soon!

I solved Semantle #54 in 60 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.36. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #28. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.22 (350/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

And because I'm a goody-two-shoes I played it on ons device then copied it onto the other to preserve battery life so I'd have an accurate average. Sad, I know!

My average is currently 129.56

I see today's 999 has a 81.99 similarity when the other day it was 60 something. Has anyone noticed if the higher the nearest words are the easier it is to get the word? Something I mused on the other day.

I'm not sure the score of the nearest is likely to be too significant as the top one or two are often variants of the solution. Humans would score and therefore rank some of these words differently to an AI, I think.

Getting slightly quicker

I solved Semantle #55 in 87 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.81. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #28. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.52. semantle.novalis.org/

That was harder than it should have been, considering I got 994 on guess 68, but then took 82 more guesses.
I solved Semantle #55 in 150 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 6.51. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #21. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.22. semantle.novalis.org/

I had 58 greens before I got the word.

I started putting in opposites as was getting nowhere and that did the trick!

Wow this is an amazing discovery for an insomniac. Never come across it before but think I might already be hooked
