Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

It took me way way too long and I didn't get a green until guess number 147 (207, no use whatsoever) and then a few random guesses later somehow got there.

I solved Semantle #54 in 244 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.40. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #147. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 10.14. semantle.novalis.org/

While not words I'd often have cause to use, I wouldn't have said many of the 900s were totally unfamiliar. DM used to reminisce unfondly about 910s, 320 944 and 1000s.

Lucked out with 814 at guess 6. Still took me a while to get there after that but a much less frustrating one than yesterdays.

Well, only managed to find time for another 15 or so guesses in the past hours (tch, can you believe the audacity of my company, expecting me to do actual work all day?!) then suddenly had a mini inspiration that gave me 938 but the best the subsequent 5 guesses has yielded is 698 😐🤪 Heeeeeeeeelp!!!

Once I hit a green it only took 12 guesses but getting to the greens took a lot of random guesses.

Oh thanks @JaneJeffer, the word I think you’re referring to is somewhere at the back of my mind, I’ll keep thinking - I’ve only found a couple of colds and 793 so far 🤪

My average guesses are 75.3 - they were quite a bit better than that till bloody curriculum!

It's mad how some seem better than others but I suppose it's what your first green word is and what path it takes you down!

Where do you find the stats @ZiaMcnab I can't see anything except the one I've just done?

And .... it was all bloody luck. Having got to xxxxxword recently (and not getting the answer), I was just randomly throwing things and I got lucky. It's my first solve out of 4. I'm too impatient normally.
