Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I solved Semantle #54 in 19 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 10.39. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #12. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.53 (115/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Oh! I got it in 16! Quite a surprise as I only had two greens - 814 and 612 - and was still trying randomish words!

Part of the equipment on a 459 I think, though certainly not an obvious relationship without knowing the answer!

I hate you all! Got 814 right at the start and a few other greens but no real pattern, not getting anywhere

This is definitely a PB for me!! One of the words I regularly start with was in the 800s and a few guesses later, there it was! Not sure what I'm going to do with the rest of my commute now though.

I don't understand this game. Some of my guesses - which are very closely linked to some guesses that scored high greens - were 'marked' as cold.

What is everyone's average number of guesses?

Mine is 113 - aiming to get it to under 100.

My average is 118, it was heading in the right direction to go below 100 until I had a couple of bad days this week 😂

Mine is 85

My average is 67.

Yy to BIWI - how can 919 (for example) be so close semantically yet a much larger but similar thing (and way more common word) not even be a green.

My average is 88, but I don't really try to minimise number of guesses.

FINALLY!! I just could not get out of the depressing theme, geez! I'm def getting worse at this...also my average guesses is significantly higher than everyone else's ha!!

Although in fairness (to me!!) I type quickly so often miss a letter off a word/wrong letter so end up putting random words in that I've not meant to put in. Also I sometimes put swear words in just to entertain myself

Other times I'm just not that good at the game (most times haha)
