How did this song ever get approved back in the day Grin

I was 10 back then in 1992 and genuinely thought it was about an old guy and merrily had it on repeat singing “ eezer Goode eezer good “

I had it on a mix dance tape and had it on repeat and still know all the words off by heart .

So now when I’m listening to it on my old dance mix on I tunes whilst cooking dinner it’s so clear to me that the whole song is about ecstasy and it’s effects then the whole chorus is singing E’s are good Grin

The verses totally describe the E effect

Still love the song BTW , just wonder how it got approved back then
Also can’t believe it’s 30 years old - really making me feel oldSmile

There was a song in the 70s called ' Lie down girl, let me push it up'
There were the Judge Dredd songs, big 5 and big 7.

ShinyPikachu · 09/03/2022 18:22

My parents always bought me Now albums for Christmas or my birthday and I'm sure it was Now 20 that had Salt n Pepa's Let's Talk About Sex followed by Color Me Badd's I Wanna Sex You Up at one point.

My mum heard me listening to them and came storming into my room wanting to know where I'd got that "disgusting" music from. You should have seen her face when I told her she had bought it for me. Grin

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 18:23

@drawingpad

Was it Hardcore Ecstasy? Although I don't remember that being a double, it was an absolute banger of an album
I’ve just looked it up think it was the “ ultimate rave “ double cassette album

I look back at some of the songs in the 80’s and 90’s the lyrics were terrible!! I remember singing them away at the top of my lungs in the garden or out playing in the street.

CherryRipe1 · 09/03/2022 18:24

We call it Acieed! Acieed! That tune's stuck in my head now!

Teenylittlefella · 09/03/2022 18:28

I had a walkman with just one tape as a young teen and it had a song called "hurts so good" on it. No idea who it was by, but I maintain that it contains the lyric "sink your teeth right through my balls, baby, let's see what we can do"

14 year old me was just as shocked then as now.

LeftieLucy · 09/03/2022 18:29

Anyone remember when you could order your cassettes from the Britannia club on the back of your mums magazines?

toomanybooksonmybookcase · 09/03/2022 18:30

The song 'girl I wanna make you sweat' is by Inner Circle and called Sweat (A la la la la long).

We used to do something called popmobility aka kiddie aerobics for PE lessons and that was one of the most requested songs in my class. I was in primary school.

Sidge · 09/03/2022 18:35

Loads of nineties songs had seriously dodgy lyrics.

Boom Boom by the Outhere Brothers is rather saucy 🤣

Lots of songs referencing sex, drugs and rock n roll. ‘‘Twas ever thus.

SignUpNow · 09/03/2022 18:35

I was a wayward teen in the 90s and thought it was hilarious that a song with the lyrics ‘E’s are good’ was in the charts Grin.

In the late 90s there was a tune called ‘Heads High’ by a Jamaican artist called Mr Vegas. It was a big club hit and got into the charts, and he performed it on TOTP. Obviously nobody at the TOTP understood Jamaican patois as the whole song is about girls who don’t give blowjobs.

‘Just mek a bwoy know ya na bow’= just tell him you don’t give BJs.

Oh, how we laughed…

DogInATent · 09/03/2022 18:36

Got to love a bit of Shamen or KLF on in the car

Fleur405 · 09/03/2022 18:36

@nearlyspringyay

I was of an age to get it and partake when it came out.

What got me was my 6 yo God Daughter singing 'when two become one'!

Blows my mind that this was a Christmas number 1. But glad your 6 year old god daughter is learning about the wisdom of using condoms!!

“Be a little bit wiser baby, put it on, put it on, cos tonight is the night…”GrinShock

MarpleFan · 09/03/2022 18:36

@Teenylittlefella John Mellencamp? It was “bones” rather than “balls” but I will now only hear it as balls

Thinkle · 09/03/2022 18:38

Ebeneezer good now on my Spotify list thanks. Recon the kids will be oblivious in the car.

Would love to, but daren’t add Tori Amos, Professional Widow… oh honey bring it close to my lips now

And the biggest turn off song of all time, Color Me Bad’s; I Wanna Sex You Up. I can’t think of anything that will make me want to be sexed up less than that song and I’m not even sure what being sexed up involves

Teenylittlefella · 09/03/2022 18:39

@MarpleFan
Well, those knock off Sony Walkmen weren't renowned for their sound quality, 😂

If I could bear the song I would try to listen to it on a better speaker - I love a mondegreen!

ProfYaffle · 09/03/2022 18:39

@RubyJam

Loved them on top of the pops.

Actually miss the live dance acts from Top of the Pops too.

No no no no no no , no no no no no no there’s no limits Grin anyone remember that one , loved that song

Being a cool, clubbing 20 something into the alternative scene at the time I used to sing "there's no lyrics" in a scathing tone.
ScrambledSmegs · 09/03/2022 18:41

I made my dad buy me the Divinyls 'I touch myself' single on cassette and then compounded his discomfort by putting it in the car stereo on the way home and singing along loudly Blush

Poor man was dying inside.

Tillymintpolo · 09/03/2022 18:41

I remember Musical Youth going on blue Peter and talking about how ‘pass the duchie’ was about a cooking pot ! Also Frankie’s Relax getting banned

wishiwasacollie · 09/03/2022 18:42

Way older but my parents bought me My dingaling by Chuck Berry on 45. I was about 6. Mother denies it now but I still have it. The record that is

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 18:43

Ha ha yeah it was very limited lyrics wise
As a ten year old I loved it though Grin

I never had a Walkman , I had a double cassette player in wacky Colour scheme from Boots the chemist - really wish I kept it.

I used to tape all the hits off the Top 40 on a Sunday so I had my own mix tapes plus the bought ones from Woolworths.

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 18:45

Oh yeah Frankie - Relax song would have been so risqué back in the 80’s - relax don’t do it - when you wanna come …

Was it banned ?

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 09/03/2022 18:46

Still sing 'puff the magic dragon' to my kids.

ClariceQuiff · 09/03/2022 18:47

Banned by the BBC but played to death on the independent stations!

Same as 'I want your sex' by George Michael.

I remember seeing them on Blue Peter too. But I genuinely believed that it was a type of cooking pot? Have I been really naive for all these years?!!
ScrambledSmegs · 09/03/2022 18:51

The Musical Youth song was adapted from one called 'Pass the Kouchie' and all references to drugs were removed. Pretty sure all the older boys in the band knew exactly what the original was about though.
