Ebeneezer Goode song

How did this song ever get approved back in the day Grin

I was 10 back then in 1992 and genuinely thought it was about an old guy and merrily had it on repeat singing “ eezer Goode eezer good “

I had it on a mix dance tape and had it on repeat and still know all the words off by heart .

So now when I’m listening to it on my old dance mix on I tunes whilst cooking dinner it’s so clear to me that the whole song is about ecstasy and it’s effects then the whole chorus is singing E’s are good Grin

The verses totally describe the E effect

Still love the song BTW , just wonder how it got approved back then
Also can’t believe it’s 30 years old - really making me feel oldSmile

The 90s definitely had some dodgy lyrics , remember the song "I'm horny"? I remember my little sister was always singing along with it on the radio. She must've only been about 5! Not music, but similar vein- I still can't believe the whole page 3 topless model was just seen as completely normal.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 09/03/2022 17:40

I wanna go deep baby.. deep deep down 😳

East 17 I think?

I used to love all these songs back in the day. Now I am sitting here clutching my pearls 😂

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 09/03/2022 17:41

There was one called Come Baby Come by MN8 as well, I loved it, and played it for dd who was interested in 90s music and got a shock, it isn't even subtle 🤣

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 17:42

Loved them on top of the pops.

Actually miss the live dance acts from Top of the Pops too.

No no no no no no , no no no no no no there’s no limits Grin anyone remember that one , loved that song

I remember my Nanna being horrified one day I was at hers and I started singing along to don't mess with my toot toot - I had heard it on the radio many times at home and I couldn't understand what she was so shocked and told me not to sing along Blush

@Frogsonglue

My favourite dodgy lyrics from the 90s is that one that goes, "girl I wanna make you sweat, sweet till you can't sweat no more" or until you're suffering from renal failure due to heat exhaustion? Okaaay...
Not to mention it the lyric then continues

And if you cry, I'm gonna push it, push it, push it some more Confused

I always thought that one was pretty disturbing.

"And if you cry out, I'm gonna push it push it some more"

MarpleFan · 09/03/2022 17:43

And… now that’s in my head. Definitely making the commute home more enjoyable though!

FromEden · 09/03/2022 17:45

I was 10 at the time too but I think I got it due to living on an estate where many teens were off their faces on drugs. Choon though. One to add to my 90s playlist!

Bordois · 09/03/2022 17:46

My neck, my back...

SisterAgatha · 09/03/2022 17:46

I want to be a hippy and I want to get stoned!!!! Yessss when was the last time I heard that!

On Spotify now! What a time to grow up!

Lol, what about that "boom boom boom " one too. Also quite dirty

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 17:49

YeH I think if I remember there were two versions of the boom boom one

The dirty version involved lyrics about sitting on faces Grin
Think it was called the bootleg one

White Lines by Grand master Flash and Melle Mel was about cocaine.

Golden Brown by The Stranglers was about heroin

mintich · 09/03/2022 17:52

Come baby come was K7

I love the use of White Lines song in Sean of the Dead, cracks me up every time!

I did not know that Golden Brown was about heroin! Makes total sense though.

FrippEnos · 09/03/2022 17:52

MrsMoastyToasty
White Lines by Grand master Flash and Melle Mel was about cocaine.

Fun fact
it was originally about cocaine fuel parties but had the tagline (don't do it) as a concession to the time.

Londoncallingtothefarawaytowns · 09/03/2022 17:53

Pulp Sortee for Es ans Whizz. When I was 13 I knew it was a banger but I didn't know WHY it was so funny until my twenties

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/03/2022 17:53

We still dance to this at my clubbercise class 😂

My first album (on cassette) was 2 Unlimited Grin
cheapskatemum · 09/03/2022 17:57

@LovelyQuiche

Mr C always always denied it was about E and I think that’s why it got through to the radio. He never admitted it
He has since, in the interview I saw he was chortling away about how it was number one & performed on TOTP when it was National Drugs Awareness Week.
Laney39 · 09/03/2022 18:07

I heard deep by East 17 the other day, I knew all the words but was shocked, its pretty graphic and I was probably singing it around the house age 12🤣🙈

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 18:12

@MedusasBadHairDay I also had that cassette

I had a really great rave double cassette album compilation (remember those chunky ones Grin) and it had songs like Prodigy - Charlie etc on it.

Wish I could remember what it was called.

drawingpad · 09/03/2022 18:14

Was it Hardcore Ecstasy? Although I don't remember that being a double, it was an absolute banger of an album
