How did this song ever get approved back in the day Grin

I was 10 back then in 1992 and genuinely thought it was about an old guy and merrily had it on repeat singing “ eezer Goode eezer good “

I had it on a mix dance tape and had it on repeat and still know all the words off by heart .

So now when I’m listening to it on my old dance mix on I tunes whilst cooking dinner it’s so clear to me that the whole song is about ecstasy and it’s effects then the whole chorus is singing E’s are good Grin

The verses totally describe the E effect

Still love the song BTW , just wonder how it got approved back then
Also can’t believe it’s 30 years old - really making me feel oldSmile

Years ago it came in the radio and my mum started singing along, telling us how much she liked it. Turns out she had no idea what it was referencing, her horror on realising was far too funny. Grin

anyone got any riiiizzzzzllaaaa!? Grin

iklboo · 09/03/2022 17:17

Anyone got any Veras? Lovely!

Vera Lynns - skins 😄

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 09/03/2022 17:20

Same as 'I want to be a hippy and I want to get stoned' 🤣

I listened to 'don't stop, wiggle wiggle' the other day and that was pretty outrageous too.

Loved bopping about to them at the showies as a teen, now I'm hoisting my bosoms and muttering how shocking it all is 🤣

poodlepoop · 09/03/2022 17:22

Got any Salmon? Sorted.

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 17:23

There were loads like that at the time - Dream trippin anyone ?

LemonRedwood · 09/03/2022 17:26

Oh.

I was 11 in 1992 and used to sing along just like you.

I've only realised what the song is about because I opened this thread Blush

Got any Salmon? Sorted.
What did salmon mean?
ClariceQuiff · 09/03/2022 17:27

I was 18 at the time and about as 'square' as they come but I always knew it was about 'E'. As pps have said, the entire pop chart seemed to be dominated at that time by songs about E and raving.

Everything started with an 'E'

I am on the train trying not to start doing big fish, little fish, cardboard box as it’s now stuck in my head! Love this song

MrsWidgerysLodger · 09/03/2022 17:30

Salmon and trout = snout = tobacco

How did you get from Ebeneezer Goode to Big fish?

Georgeskitchen · 09/03/2022 17:32

Lucy in the sky with Diamonds managed to get through!!
Most songs are generally about sex ( some more subtle than others) and plenty about drugs, well some songs were obviously written when the composers were off their heads!! 🤣

MarpleFan · 09/03/2022 17:33

@drawingpad it was a dance move from the 90’s

RubyJam · 09/03/2022 17:34

It’s just the lines are totally about the effect of E - and even the first lines “ he’s got a bitter sweet face “ I’m thinking this was the Smikey faces printed on the pills.

Yeah it was so catchy

Really started me off on my love of dance and rave music too

He’s refined, sublime, he makes you feel fine
Though very much maligned and misunderstood
If you know Eezer he’s a real crowd pleaser
He’s ever so good he’s ebeneezer Goode!

Lyrics are actually really good

Oh god that's just sunk in for me! Not heard it for years and I swear they used to play it at the school disco! I remember singing along when it came out and I was about 10 🤣
Frogsonglue · 09/03/2022 17:35

My favourite dodgy lyrics from the 90s is that one that goes, "girl I wanna make you sweat, sweet till you can't sweat no more" or until you're suffering from renal failure due to heat exhaustion? Okaaay...

drawingpad · 09/03/2022 17:36

Oh, I had no idea - definitely don't remember it Blush

LovelyQuiche · 09/03/2022 17:36

Mr C always always denied it was about E and I think that’s why it got through to the radio. He never admitted it

Yeah there are so many drug / sexy songs this one just makes me smile as it’s so completely obvious that they are singing “ E’s are good “

I was of an age to get it and partake when it came out.

What got me was my 6 yo God Daughter singing 'when two become one'!

Narutocrazyfox · 09/03/2022 17:37

There's a live TOTP performance where he says 'has anyone got any underlay???' and he later said it wasn't a drug reference, it was a rug reference 😂😂😂

That's my favourite ever fact about the song and I loved that performance when I was a teenager!
