Another daily project

Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

The leg waxing was fine @RunningKatie. The bikini line was a different matter! Grin

The side of our house regularly resembles a dump too. Drives me mad. Every time I think we have it cleared more stuff appears.

I’m currently half way through the ironing pile. Well what is needed for the holiday anyway. Managed to weed out a few things that are now too big for me and will go straight to charity so not going to iron them. I probably should though.

Today’s jobs are all related to getting sorted for going away. And also to taking the dog to our dog sitter tomorrow. Who is a two and a half hour drive away unfortunately. So tomorrow will be mostly driving. Want to get packed today. DH wants the bags closed and ready to go today but I can’t see that happening. We are also trying to spread everyone’s things between the cases in case one goes missing.

Thelnebriati · 30/07/2022 12:20

I've got a special offer on ebay fees so thats my weekend job.

petalpower · 31/07/2022 15:15

Very pleased with myself as I’ve now listed 9 skirts on eBay. All lovely Boden/Joules/ White Stuff. Just hope someone buys them now! It ended up being a much quicker job than I imagined so double bonus. I’m hoping to go to a British Heart Foundation book drop off bank after dropping my son at the station to get rid of the books that the charity shop wouldn’t take last week. Did you get your eBay listings done too @TheInebriati?
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

RunningKatie · 31/07/2022 15:28

I seem to have broken the paper shredder, and I've not even managed to shred anything today. It was a flimsy thing so I never felt it was up to the job but now I'm just frustrated with it.
The rain is also thwarting my attempts to be organised and ahead of the game.
I fear it's too early for wine, however tempting!

Thelnebriati · 31/07/2022 17:59

I put some listings up - and straight away sold them in a bundle with best offer so that was a nice bonus!

petalpower · 31/07/2022 19:07

I’ve just turned down three very cheeky offers for my skirts on eBay.

I'm a lurker on this thread.

I find for getting rid of paperwork especially with details on it. Place papers in a bucket/ plastic bin, add several kettles of boiling water, add a load of bleach and leave to steep overnight, stir around, add more bleach, repeat as needed till you have an unreadable mush (like paper mache) and then with some nice weather can sit on top of the bins to dry out a bit, dispose of in general waste. This might be useful as you probably have the stuff needed in the house already.

Solosunrise · 31/07/2022 19:56

All go on the projecting! Well done all!

Hello @NotanotherboxofFrogs 👋 That's a pretty good tip 😚
I've just worked a long shift but my beloved made a tip run.
Off for a shower and so my contribution might be cleaning the bath first. That's about it as I'm knackered

My project today is to finish painting the fireplace to make it look like limestone (previously very yellow marble). Problem if the paint smells like vomit so it’s a task you have to complete in small doses and it needs three coats…

petalpower · 01/08/2022 14:18

Still haven’t managed to get rid of the books - the charity shop said no and the book bank wasn’t in the Asda car park yesterday. I’m just driving round with a load of old recipe books in the back of my car! I have sold and posted one if the eBay skirts today. Fingers crossed that the others go quickly.

RunningKatie · 01/08/2022 14:32

My washing is out for what feels like the 5th day in a row. Currently it is dry and sunny so thus feels like progress.
I've even bunged the bath mats and some cushion covers on a quick wash. Dh tells me the house whiffs of dog. He also tells me his sense of smell hasn't properly returned since covid, so who knows?!

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 01/08/2022 19:23

I've managed let go of a 2 large bags of cookery books and a DVD player today to a local project, the DVD player can be used for film nights and the cookery books to the "library bookshelf" .

Solosunrise · 02/08/2022 06:01

Most recently I dropped some books into a local old phone box 'library'. Unfortunately I do tend to then pick up a couple as well 🙃
@RunningKatie i worry a bit about pet smells in my house, as DH just doesn't notice and I fear that I may be too used to it (noseblind?) What soothes me is that my work in social care gets me in and out of many homes, and ours definitely falls well within 'normal' range.
Had no rain here for weeks. Nice getting washing out on the line but gardens are looking pretty dry. Brown lawns everywhere.
Today I think I'm going to tackle some clutter that's built up in our office/dining room.
Have a lovely day everyone!

SummerLobelia · 02/08/2022 07:48

Morning all.

I am off work for the remainder of the week (hurray!).

I know what you mean about the house smelling if animals. I am slightly paranoid about that. We have 2 kitty litter trays that I need to refresh daily but even then it makes me worried if they have been used as the smell of cat pee is just awful.

We have been surprisingly active for the past few days. We have guests next weekend and so have cleared out the spare room. We have decided though that after the guests leave we will junk the old bed and lay a rug down and put in an armchair that is cluttering up the sitting room and it will be a little reading room. So that will actually be quite nice I think.

Lemonblossom · 02/08/2022 09:18

I have set myself a target to clear out the spare room by the end of the week. This could be a challenge since we cleared an elderly relatives house in March when he went into a care home and there is therefore all sorts of random crap that needs sorting through which is now in my spare room. I’m determined to be ruthless though and get back the space…

fudfootedfannybangle · 02/08/2022 13:38

Thankfully I’m “country” and people have caddy lambs in the kitchen - so a house that didn’t smell of animals would seem odd. 😂

the kids noticed (!) all the changes I’d made while they were away, but I’ve done nothing since they got back.

Have just beaten my standing lamp back into submission. A spark friend came around so I asked him to take a look and swore blind it wasn’t the bulb. You can see where this story ends…

last night was all glorious sunsets out to sea, today is haa, mist and drizzle so no smug drying.

RunningKatie · 02/08/2022 14:12

I went to shave my legs and ended up cleaning the shower. I thought the rack was rusty, turns out it was covered in shower gel, shampoo etc., it is now sparkling!
I am definitely doing random jobs today, the dc haven't got dressed but have put away their clean washing.

Solosunrise · 03/08/2022 06:34

I grew up in a cigarette smoke and animal filled farmhouse and funnily enough never noticed smells. In hindsight 😫 for me and animals which were collies, cats and the occasional sock lamb as they are known down south. Normal in the 70s I guess. Lots of fresh air with the comings and goings though.
I live in a terraced townhouse now and since lockdown, very few visitors. (I do have friends, we just tend to meet out as dh wfh) I have family coming to stay next week who've not been for 5 years though, and I'm slightly stressing about probable ancient cat smells.
My plan is to just keep place as clean as poss and keep windows open.
Once cat shuffles of this mortal coil we'll probably replace carpets downstairs. Wouldn't mind hard flooring next time.
(This family is my son and his wife to be who I've not met yet - only on video, so stakes are high 🤣. They live in EU as he went there to work while he still could, and now has residency)
I'm very excited!!

fudfootedfannybangle · 03/08/2022 07:33

Hard flooring shows the dust more <sage warning>.

then your son really won’t mind, he’ll just be happy to see his mum again - and your future DIL can hold her tongue because she’s buying in to the family - ancient cat and all! 😁

@RunningKatie racks can go in the dishwasher. Along with stirrups and bits. 😳

today is going to be busy so just one small job. I need to screw the “thing” on the bottom of eldest’s bedroom door back on as it’s been half ripped off due to fighting children one either side of the door. 🙄

will exchange two “spirited” children for a smoke filled farmhouse with pishy animals.

Solosunrise · 03/08/2022 08:16

I love all you smug projecters. I think we could be friends irl. We seem relatively normal. I would definitely put stirrups and bits in dishwasher if i had one. Horse rugs have been in my washing machine

Today I’m determined to ready rid of the bloody books! I’m popping into the town nearest to my aunt’s care home after visiting her this afternoon. There are several charity shops there. Surely one of them will accept the books?!

fudfootedfannybangle · 03/08/2022 08:48

@Solosunrise you’re all welcome here anytime. Mugs are clean and you’ll just have to shove the dog up if you want a seat.

good luck @petalpower our charity shops are refusing books right now… yet are taking DVDs. 🤷‍♀️

mind you, they’re still mandating fucking covid masks so perhaps they see books as super-spreaders… of knowledge and adventure

Solosunrise · 03/08/2022 11:04

Did someone say clean mugs and a dog?? You don't have to ask me twice!

I am really looking forward to seeing my lad and meeting his lady ♥️ We have plans afoot to do some stuff with them and the rest of the family, though I know they'll want to do things without us too. We're still in the family home so I will relax, though i do have to make their room habitable as it's been housing all sorts of things.

I can't believe it's August already!

I've set up my sewing machine. I lost my sewing mojo some years ago, just as I was about to cut into a length of fabric. I'm going to try to make some sleep shorts.

petalpower · 03/08/2022 16:27

The books are finally gone! I have been driving them around for about a week now but the hospice shop was happy to take them and I managed to get a parking space outside which was a result. It’s very hot again here so I don’t feel I’ve achieved too much else. Spent the afternoon with my aunt at her care home and picked up a couple of bits I needed for tonight’s dinner and filled up with diesel in the same trip.
How exciting to see your son and meet your new DIL @Solosunrise
How are the shorts going @TheInebriati?
Is the thing back on the door @fudfootedfannybangle ?
