Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

Morning all.

A pile of unread books is so lovely to have @Solosunrise! I too have a pile of unread books. And loads on my kindle. I do a reading challenge in Good Reads with my sister every year. Usually aim for 50. I’m 3 ahead of target at the moment. And hoping our week away week after next will add more.

Didn’t fix the dress yesterday but I did do a lot of the ironing. Still a few bits to go but the end is in sight!

DH and I are going away overnight tonight to a party and need to leave mid afternoon. Probably won’t achieve much today. May try to fix the dress as could wear it tonight. Other than that I’m just aiming to walk the dog in a bit, tidy the kitchen, vacuum and get going.

SummerLobelia · 23/07/2022 11:33

Morning all!

Today I have bought placemats for the cats as they are messy eaters.

I think a film and some ironing is on my agenda also.

Hope everyone has a great day!

fudfootedfannybangle · 23/07/2022 17:23

Hello you lovely scrubbers! 😁

I have smug line-dried, cleaned windows, hung a curtain rail (with new step ladder) and re-arranged eldest’s bedroom. I’ve also ordered paint for the bathroom to give it a refresh.

and now, pjs, 🥃 and “virgin river” (Netflix cheese fest).

im down to 10 jobs out of the 40+ I had a few weeks ago and if I can get them all licked this week then I can see next weekend because I’ll be in complete control. Ha!

RunningKatie · 23/07/2022 20:35

Weekend! I am about to have wine, the school bags have been emptied. A little light tidying has been done.
I have 2 piles of unread books, one upstairs and one downstairs. I am delighted that dd is the same. Dh despairs!

Peridot1 · 24/07/2022 12:01

Happy Sunday everyone.

Lots achieved at yours @fudfootedfannybangle! You’ve reminded me our utility room needs refreshing paint wise. I may attempt it myself. May just spend time looking at paint and deciding on a colour and end up painting it white anyway.

DH and I are just back from being away overnight at a party. I didn’t fix the dress but I did wear the vest top I rescued from one of my bags. It think it was a bag of things that were a bit small so I hadn’t worn. I’m now two sizes smaller though so it fits again. It’s a nice black crepe top. Very useful. Glad I rescued it!

not planning much today. Have some washing in and think that might be it for the day. I have quite a bit on next week so may spend some time planning the week out. We also have a fridge full of food that needs using up so need to do a menu plan to make sure it gets used before we go away next week.

Thelnebriati · 24/07/2022 13:12

Smug bins! Grin
I survived the bin horror. But forgot to close the windows so the smell got in the house Envy Also have gone right off the smell of pine.

SummerLobelia · 25/07/2022 12:58

Morning!

Today i bought tile cleaner which I will use on our victorian tiles. I also bought some black metallic paint as our outdoor setting needs a bit of titivating.

RunningKatie · 25/07/2022 13:32

I've got washing out on the line, so it's started to rain.
I'm tackling paper work for the 50 millionth time this week.

Solosunrise · 25/07/2022 15:25

Smug scrubbers i think!
I had a full on weekend seeing people and ran out of spoons.
I plan to have a little post work nap, then i will attempt to put the house straight. I don't think it'll take long. Just put some things where they belong, a wash on and a hoover.

Morning all!
Today I have cleaned the inside of my wheelie bin as it was emptied yesterday.
And my boiling the kettle job was cleaning out the soap tray in the washing machine.
Next time i boil the kettle I might clean and disinfect the kitchen bin.
How are you all doing?

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 26/07/2022 15:13

I still can't get the tray out of the washing machine and its minging. Apparently I'm supposed to just pull it but it feels like it will break.

Peridot1 · 26/07/2022 15:44

Hello!

i was productive yesterday - had to go for dental X-ray and due to roadworks I parked about 20 minutes away at a shopping centre with a car wash/valet so got in a 40minute walk AND got the car cleaned AND got a battery put into DH’s watch. Plus bought a pair of shorts for me.

Not been too productive today but I tried on some swimsuits which are still ok and some dresses to see what I can take on holiday. Want to avoid the normal situation of me taking far too much and finding that some just doesn’t work for various reasons. If I fix the seam on the rescued dress I will have five dresses. For a seven night holiday. Will try to stick to that!

@Solosunrise I need to do the soap compartment too. And could do with giving the machine a wash cycle. I may wash some dog towels and mats this afternoon and do the machine afterwards.

@Thelnebriati - with mine I need to push down slightly on a piece of plastic just behind the softener compartment. With a previous machine I had to push on a section under the soap compartment.

Mine has a sticky up bit at the top which you push down as you pull, if that makes sense.
Pushes back in easily though.

fudfootedfannybangle · 27/07/2022 07:40

Hello everyone!

I throw the powder directly into the drum as I can’t stand a minging tray - but a jiggle and a wiggle should do the job.

I’ve got one of these fancy Samsungs and it tells me when it wants a cleaning cycle. Brilliant machine.

today I’m going to buy paintbrushes and masking tape and wash down the walls of the bathroom in preparation for painting. I’ve gone with a very boring cream colour. Bathroom is currently blue but it’s north east facing and given there’s nothing between it and the North Pole - blue feels too “cold”.

Peridot1 · 27/07/2022 09:09

Sounds nice @fudfootedfannybangle.

I got a few things done yesterday. Fixed the dress. Took all of five minutes. Washed the two floor mats in the utility room and the cover of a dog bed and a dog towel. Then washed the machine through empty a few times to get rid of the dog hair. Then did the soap compartment. Still got a few doggie things to wash though. We had a separate machine for dog stuff in our previous house. I miss that!

Also did some of DS’s washing. He is going to clear out his room in the house he was sharing for uni last year today so I’ll end up with towels and bedding to wash later. Although they have been there for almost a year unwashed………. Not looking forward to it! He hardly stayed there in the end so they are fairly lightly used I think!

Cleaners are in today so I’ll tidy up this morning so they can clean. Have a dentist appointment this afternoon and want to take some pictures to be framed.

SummerLobelia · 27/07/2022 10:45

Morning all.

I have a rose arch being installed today! It's galvanised iron and painted black and has been something I have procrastinated about for about 9 years. I am a bit worried it might be a little too large as our garden is only small, but I am sure that is just last minute wibbles.

petalpower · 27/07/2022 11:22

Inspired by this thread I’ve also cleaned out the washing machine drawer! I’ve also tackled the pile of ‘outgrown’ summer clothes (mine!) and worked out what I’m going to try to eBay and what I’m going to take to the charity shop. My outside (garage) freezer looks like it’s on its last legs so I think I’ll have to buy a
new one tomorrow and I can drop off at the charity shop on the same trip. I think the 40 degree heat last week tipped the freezer over the edge and it now doesn’t seem to be staying cold enough despite defrosting and restarting it.
@Peridot1 I really like trips out like yours where you can do several jobs in one outing. Makes me feel very productive and efficient.
@SummerLobelia your rose arch sounds lovely.
Despite not posting I have been reading this thread and enjoying hearing what everyone has been up to.

Solosunrise · 27/07/2022 11:58

Hello all! Some productive things going on! I particularly like the sound of the rose arch.
I found a beautiful scented rose garden in a park the other day.
I have a shower curtain to wash today. Oh the life I lead! I had to search for cat poo this morning. Turned madam ancient cat had misfired on trying to use the tray. Lovely start to the day 😂

Thelnebriati · 27/07/2022 14:54

Finally managed to wiggle out the drawer, it needs cleaning more than once every 18 months.
I'm getting my sewing machine out this afternoon, to sew some of those pocket drawer tidies.

RunningKatie · 27/07/2022 15:45

I love the sound of a rose arch. I have rose arch envy now!
Today I'm on a day off, I seem to have accomplished nothing apart from sorting many bits of washing, annoying the dc and also retrieving a pair of socks from the back of the drawers so the drawer actually closes.

Peridot1 · 28/07/2022 09:44

I have rose arch envy too! It sounds lovely @SummerLobelia.

Well done @Thelnebriati! You will be able to do it more often now you’ve figured out how it comes out.

I’m feeling irrationally irritated with DH this morning. DS brought all his stuff back from uni yesterday and it’s all in the hallway. It includes bedding and towels. I got up about ten minutes after DH today and he’d already stripped the duvet and put the cover and pillowcases on to wash. Very helpful. But I had my washing planned today. I stripped two beds yesterday and had one lot ready to go into the machine this morning. It was sitting on top of the machine. I know I’m being irrational but I’m a bit irritated. I wash bedding on 60 degrees. Especially bedding that hadn’t been washed for a year! He’s used a cotton (it’s not cotton!) cycle at 30 degrees which takes bloody forever!

So I’m now sitting here waiting for it to finish so I can hang it out and put the other washing on. Washing that is actually needed! If I ask him to leave it to me he will get huffy and say he was only trying to help. Which he was. But I’m still a bit irritated.

I took pictures in to be framed yesterday. Well ended up leaving one for framing and not the other three. They are prints of some photos that a friend gave me for my birthday. They were an extra present. Her DH is really into photography and they are his pictures. Lovely. But they will cost £130 EACH to frame! So I think I’ll do those myself.

RunningKatie · 28/07/2022 10:18

My dh is banned from our washing machine @Peridot1 he is a menace with his "trying to help". Overfills it, dyes white clothes grey, or even goes to peg out clothes that haven't even been washed yet 🙄
Yesterday I started tackling 2 baskets of ironing. Lots of uniform that needs labelling has been put aside as I've managed to outsource that task to my mum!
I also weeded a pot on the drive, every time I see it my heart sank, 10 mins of work and all sorted.

SummerLobelia · 28/07/2022 11:03

Morning all! The rose arch looks good and is not too big for the garden. It ended up being narrower than I thought. It has been cemented in nicely. I am growing the same type of roses up it that I used in my wedding bouquet. (Sentimental alert)

My skip has arrived. :) Dear heavens that needs a glass of prosecco on it's own.

I feel the DH and washing pain. I have banned DH from washing any of mine or the Dcs clothes. He has this wierd fixation that only a 90 degree wash will 'kill the germs' and it just destroys my clothes. [thinks wistfully of my favourite angora wool sweater].

Solosunrise · 28/07/2022 11:37

Ever grateful for my beloved over here smug
He's quietly competent around the house. Only slight irritation is he's a bit inclined to wait till after I get in to say 'what's for dinner?' He works from home and i don't, and finishes by 4pm.
But he also works more hours and I did take it on as mostly my responsibility.
I'm with you on the 'shouldn't be irritated but I am!' @Peridot1 Shall we LTBs?

I sometimes wonder what my life would look like without MN (am 4 years in)
I would possibly not be considering a rose arch (yet I am, and have the perfect place to put it too!)
Currently considering taking up riding again (as opposed to just muck shovelling as at present) - due to a thread on returning riders in The Tack Room
Have taken up sweaty walking as Proper Exercise (with an app and everything!) because of a post that came up on active.
I probably wouldn't have considered washing machine care but for the original daily project thread either. Nor would I be being accountable.
And all the books!!

Today: I think I'm going to wash my front door and sweep and make pretty the doorstep and front path. I may be moved to get a planter out there too 🤔
