@Ghastlyghoul

You joke rags but some poster's have said they think Putin is aware of us grin

Maybe he’s been reading the Daily Mash’s Mumsnet Guide To Armageddon

The Mumsnet Guide to Armageddon
JUGGLING a career, kids and useless partner is tricky for mums before thermonuclear oblivion’s added to the mix! Mumsnet regular Joanna Kramer gives her tips:

Build a bunker

Make it as airtight as possible with a generator and wifi to stay connected to Mumsnet, and a chest freezer for provisions. Pretend to be gutted by the kids wanting potato faces every night when really you’re revelling in being a martyr to their basic taste. You used to love Thai!

Share trivial, confusing problems

Despite looming world war continue sharing your baffling and bitter grudge against a neighbour you lent a jam jar to which they never returned, even though it’s just a jam jar and it’s more the principle. Should you say something or are you being petty? Yes the four-minute warning’s gone off, but this is important.

Keep posting your weird sex issues

As the warheads strike keep hold of your priorities and post deeply personal sex questions like ‘Walked in on husband, shall we say ‘choking the chicken’, over the kids’ Peppa Pig DVD while muttering ‘take it piggy’. Is this normal?’

Consult Mumsnet over everything

A nuclear war needn’t stop you consulting wholly unqualified random people about every sodding issue, such as ‘Can I refreeze defrosted raw chicken?’, ‘Should I take the kids out to see the mushroom clouds?’, and ‘Does Calpol work for radiation sickness?’

Remain completely self-obsessed

As the situation deteriorates, Mumsnet will be full of posts like: ‘Bodies everywhere. Food supplies exhausted. Plague has broken out. Squads of men in hazmat suits killing the infected with flamethrowers. Will the examiner take this into account re daughter’s GCSE grades?’

Don’t forget to moan about the transgenders

It may not seem a priority with mobs killing and looting at will, but keep posting irate comments about transgender issues you’ve uncritically absorbed from the Mail, such as ‘I’m a woman, not a ‘person with a uterus’ thank you very much!’

Make your last words a humblebrag

‘Giant mutated rat ate our labrador, Rufus. Should have saved a few quid and got a rescue dog instead of a pedigree! Daughter in floods, but son got it with a homemade spear. Glad I paid the extra and got Japanese kitchen knives from Lakeland

@TheSillyMastiff

Part of Russia's failure on Afghanistan was the well documented "Russian mother's resistance" it did have quite the impact.
Absolutely.

There was a very strong NGO in Russia called the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers, I think, which started during the Afghan war and then through the wars in Chechnya and Ukraine.

I think it was mostly closed down due to Putin's new laws in recent years putting massive restrictions on civil society groups. accusing them of being foreign agents.

@AuldAlliance

Thanks for the new thread. I'm curious about the posts saying Zelenskyy is a US puppet. He was elected in 2019, during the Trump presidency - was that the successful outcome of a strategy devised under Obama or Trump? The transcript of the phone call between Trump and Zelenskyy reveals the latter to be a bit fawning, saying he'd stayed at Trump's hotel. But then when Trump tried to get Zelenskyy to incriminate Biden, he stood his ground, leading to a huge freeze on aid to Ukraine and a refusal to invite him to the White House, which would have been a show of US support for Ukraine against Putin. Who was pulling his strings at that point?

I'd like more details on this puppetry.

yeah there is a lot to unpack still there

Maybe Putin wanted to invade earlier (Covid got in the way) or he was counting on Trump to stay in office

Or that Trump would at least mange more lasting damage to Nato and EU

Trump was against Nato and tried to undermine/ridicule EU everytime he could

Would the west be as united a they are if the USA still had Trump as a president, hmm think not and that would have helped Putin

RedToothBrush · 02/03/2022 22:29

Yes apparently if Russian mothers go to Ukraine their POW sons will be released to them directly.

I really want an army of Russian mothers to go and stop this war!

Worth knowing the background to this suggestion. Its a more serious one than you might realise, to try and mobilise Russian Mothers.

rightlivelihood.org/the-change-makers/find-a-laureate/the-committee-of-soldiers-mothers-of-russia-csmr/

The Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers of Russia (CSMR)
CSMR was founded in 1989 and officially registered 300 mothers of soldiers the same year, whose initial aim was to campaign for their sons to return home early from military service in order to resume their studies. They succeeded in bringing home nearly 180,000 young men for this purpose.

and

Hundreds of mothers organised by CSMR went to Chechnya to take their sons away from the war. They negotiated with the Chechen army and obtained the release of 'prisoners of war'. CSMR organised a remarkable 'March of Mothers' Compassion', bombarded the Russian government with statements and petitions, and campaigned for the young men who refused to serve in Chechnya, declaring themselves conscientious objectors. Most controversially, they started a campaign encouraging mothers to support the right of their sons to refuse military service - and they travelled abroad to support the idea of an International Tribunal on Chechnya.

In the late 90s and beginning of the new millennium, the Soldiers' Mothers worked to prevent anti-democratic changes in the Russian military legislation by demanding the immediate abolition of involuntary conscription, which "made the army the source of threat to people and society, the source of social tension in Russia".

In 2003 the Soldiers' Mothers began a campaign for negotiations with commanders of Chechen armed formations. In 2005 they negotiated in London with representatives of the Chechen side. The 'London memorandum', which was signed by both sides, called, among other things, for European participation in the constructive settlement of the Chechen crisis. CSMR intended to broaden the circle of participants in negotiations on peace in Chechnya.

Incidentally the official Russia number of dead for Chechnya is 7500. The Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers of Russia thinks its about 14000.

@Peregrina

No more sending their children to English private schools. And a shortage of goods that they are used to seeing in their shops. It will be like the 80s again for Russia.

For the second statement, business as usual for the ordinary Russian on the street. Not so good for the oligarchs.

Yes wondering what life will be like for the normal working class & middle class Russian?

or those who appear to be instinctively idealogically supportive of Russia, come what may, and have to be repeatedly bludgeoned by others in the Labour Party to acknowledge even the basics of what is going on here.

Labour party support for Russia has a long history. Labour And The Gulag: Russia and the Seduction of the British Left written by Giles Udy is a fascinating read (it's long), it mainly details Labours relationship with the USSR post world war 2 but it seems there are still some comrades in the party. For anyone who doesn't fancy the book there is a Triggenometry interview with Giles which is well worth watching. It is heartening to see Keir Starmer taking a stand against Putin sympathisers within the LP.

@RedToothBrush

Horrible as it is, approx 15,000 Russians died in Afghanistan over 10 years.

If reports are to believed, they have 6,000 dead in just 7 days.

I'm struggling to see why people think ww3 will start if we impose a NFZ but the Russians are all cool n dandy with 1000s of NATO issue anti tank, anti aircraft missiles, machine guns, equipment and millions of rounds of ammo killing their soldiers and airmen.

Putin implied he would visit nuclear war on us if we dared to restrict or oppose his actions, thankfully, we already have.

More detail on the mig and rescue helicopter:

Romanian MiG-21MF Lancer is missing. Disappeared off the coast of the Black Sea, in the Cogealac area. The SAR helo sent to find it disappeared too. Locals reporting a loud 'bang'.... Mind there's bad weather there, but also a few Russian warships....
Ongoing reporting here: www.g4media.ro/breaking-un-avion-mig-21-lancer-a...
....and 2 VKS Su-24 and 2 Su-27s have violated Sweden’s airspace over the Baltic Sea today (all interecepted by SwLM JAS-39s).

The Hungarian papers reported that the weather was bad. Also on the last 25 years Romanian MIGs had 20 emergency landings / accidents.

There aren't any Putin supporters in the Lab party.
Even the most left wing lab MP, Corbyn, has come out publicly and denounced Putin, who has far more in common with Hitler than Lenin.

I think its a bit of red herring and as Lab aren't in power, so unable to enact law, irrelevant.

A vulnerable government @HeadPain a very vulnerable government.

It's no wonder marshal law could be applied. He can the control the narrative, the streets and the people all in one go.

Tory policy has contributed hugely to the size of Putin's war chest. All those oligarch donors knew which party they could rely on.
