The extreme far right exist in Ukraine like all countries. But unlike some countries they are a tiny minority. They only gained 1/6% of the vote in the last elections. You want to hand Russia significant control because of a tiny proportion of the population?

Re the oligarchs starting to sell-off their homes/planes/yachts etc. Hopefully media will be reporting on who purchases these assets - I’d quite like to know who’s happy to fund them for the sake of a “cheap” deal.

Would be nice if the richest in the world didn’t snap up a single asset from them!

I do think Ukraine need to make some kind of compromise. Maybe they will need to give Russia Luhansk and Donetsk. Maybe there will need to be an East Ukraine and West Ukraine.

After living at the time of the Berlin Wall coming down, how depressing if we now have to watch a Ukraine Wall going up.

Has the Ukrainian government thought of ceding to Poland all the areas of western Ukraine that used to be part of Poland before 1939? Quite a large area including the big city of Lviv. Poland can say to Russia this is part of Poland now if you send your troops in here you will be at war with us and NATO.

This would be a genius move. Providing Poland returned it later…

Putin will eventually take Ukraine after massive loss of life. And will then try to invade other countries too to create a new Russian Empire.

Great idea. Let's come up with hypotheticals and technicalities under which we can escalate a humanitarian tragedy, into possibly a nuclear holocaust.

It's telling that no NATO government views direct involvement as an option - I don't see how anyone rational can.

By the way, since human rights is a central theme here - what right do the rest of the planet have to opt out, if hardliners in a NATO country decide that they're willing to wipe out humanity in order to preserve Ukraine's independence?

What about people in South America, Africa, Asia, who may have an entirely different view? How about people here who have a different view?

You simply decide what will make you feel good and then you stake the survival of all of humanity on being able to predict a possibly ill, unhinged, dictator's response?

I'm starting to agree that Ukraine need to work with the rest of the world here and compromise.

I imagine they mean they expect the bombing and killing to massively intensify, which is not only the worst for the people of Ukraine, but will also pose a really terrible dilemma for NATO. If it starts to look like an actual genocide might happen, then it's hard to see how NATO does not get involved.

I wonder if Putin is paranoid re being close to his beloved dogs? Would be great if one of them could be weaponised with some deadly poison just before a big cuddle session.
