@Gingerwarthog sorry cross post!
No problem

Gingerwarthog · 27/02/2022 13:23

Apparently he's saying this is because of aggressive statements from NATO (Reuters)

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/02/2022 13:24

@Gingerwarthog

Putin has ordered military command to put nuclear deterrence forces on high alert Reuters have reported (Guardian online have quoted this).
Could someone in simple terms explain what this means?
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 27/02/2022 13:25

I don't believe it at all, more threats to try and thwart Ukraine ginger
Putin is now throwing a hissy fit because it appears they are indeed losing.

Putting something on high alert is pretty meaningless.

But it must be obvious now even to the allies of Russia that Putin needs to be removed in whatever means necessary because no sane leader wants a nuclear war. I truly believe it is game over for him now - it has just gone too far.

LittleRen · 27/02/2022 13:26

@covetingthepreciousthings I think it's a threat - basically they are ready do be used. If NATO keeps interfering then he will use them. If he uses them, we use them right back - so I think the general consensus is that it's just a threat. But he has clearly lost his mind so who knows anymore...

BronwenFrideswide · 27/02/2022 13:26

@Gingerwarthog

Ukraine have repelled the Russian attack on the city of Kharkiv (Guardian online).
I hope that's true, it will be a humiliation for Putin and Russia if it is and I hope, hope, hope that will not trigger Putin to more barbarity.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 27/02/2022 13:29

Nato are not interfering! They have studiously stayed out of the conflict. Individual neighbours may be helping with aid, military defence systems etc but that is not the same as Nato getting involved. Russia would know about it if they had!!!!

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 27/02/2022 13:30

Maybe the buildup of Nato defence is rattling him.....and he is just sending out a friendly reminder (his third reference to nuclear in a week)

LittleRen · 27/02/2022 13:32

Nato are increasing defences - Nato countries are making 'aggressive' statements, he doesn't like it and clearly counts that as intefering. The man is seriously unhinged.

Gingerwarthog · 27/02/2022 13:33

Andrew Roth's article (Guardian online) is worth reading for more detail on this and what Putin has said.

Kassle · 27/02/2022 13:33

Saber rattling.

If we hadn't sanctioned, if he had been permitted to take Ukraine and install a puppet government, then that would have shown him that the rest of the world is not prepared to stand up to him and he just would have carried on and on.

Someone needs to take him out. Who the fuck does he think he is, thinking he can terrorise the whole world into submission? Lord Voldemort?

NobodysGonnaKnow · 27/02/2022 13:33

Well NATO countries are getting involved as they are helping to arm the Ukraine military. Honestly I know I sound unhinged but nuclear war doesn’t even scare me anymore. I’m so fucking incensed by Putins tactics right now if he had a missile aimed at my head I’d still flick him the bird.

Narcissist covers it.
Kassle · 27/02/2022 13:35

he is just sending out a friendly reminder (his third reference to nuclear in a week)

You notice that he hasn't once actually said the word nuclear. Creating an atmosphere of fear via the unknown. He's a disgusting person and I hope he dies a painful, lonely death.

Kassle · 27/02/2022 13:35

I honestly feel a bit like that too tbh.

I know it’s ridiculous and I should be on my knees praying but anger feels more productive.
Kassle · 27/02/2022 13:41

Not to be glib, but I really do think it is saber rattling.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2022 13:41

Max Seddon thread with video

Putin: "Western countries aren't only taking unfriendly economic actions against our country, but leaders of major Nato countries are making aggressive statements about our country. So I order to move Russia's deterrence forces to a special regime of duty."

I wonder if he's going to fire one off as a warning.

I really hope so but what a worrying escalation.

I absolutely feel like this too.
I think its almost inevitable at this point. The man has lost whichever way you look at it. He will use nukes without doubt .
Tigersonvaseline · 27/02/2022 13:44

What surprise invasion!

We all new about it, even I at home with a cuppa knew Putin's aims And what he was doingGrin

How embarrassing for mighty Russia to demand help from Belarus??

Unfortunately I wonder if he will be calling on Assad for favours soon?
